  • Pecker Dunne was NOT born in Wexford . He was born in Castloebar, Co Mayo on April 1st. 1933.He changed the line in "Wexford" from "a man must feel affection for the town where he was born" to "...where he was raised" I was one of the organisers of a tribute concert for Pecker in Cois na hAbhna in 2008 and was Fear a' Tí on the night.

  • i met the pecker in cork about 25 years ago,,he was playin bango then and singing then as well as fiddle a great ententertainer,wa abel to entertain all in the pup in glengarrif where he playen regulary...a great entainer!!!

  • I remember back in the '80s, my band played in a concert in Skibbereen and "backed" the Pecker who was a special guest -we were young guys but we were country lads and knew all his material - he was a legend back then. He was very down to earth and friendly -a sound character.

  • Thank you for posting this...Have great memories of Pecker visiting with his family in my old home in Wexford.

  • There is no equivalent of this man to take his place if he leaves us. A stunning individualism and pure delivery, which make him a national Irish treasure alongside the Tara broach. I love his songs. I loved seeing him playing tunes before the big matches. Thanks Pecker.

  • Pecker what a Legend, God Bless you and all,

  • The word "authentic" is much overused, but Pecker truly is. What wonderful music! Terrific character.

  • i am totally into this man now. i am glad my friend told me about Pecker Dunne. I think he is quite eyeopening. if u listen to the words of the song, he takes you to where he's been and his voice is awesome. i just like good singers & musicians because i am one also. peace out

  • I remember Woody Guthrie used this Tinker's Lullaby tune for the Hobo's Lullaby...hum correct me if I am wrong

  • what kind of a banjo is he playing towards the end?

  • @Timothydlol

The very last banjo in this vid is a Gibson Mastertone RB-250 with bowtie inlay and the "Fly Swatter" peg head. The 5th string peg is removed as well as the 5th string so it can be set up as a plectrum banjo (4 string banjo)

  • @TheZenBanjoist . its still tuned as a 5 string. its dropped tuned.

  • He never played a Tenor Banjo he played a 5 string Banjo

  • i remember him living in listowel, kerry in the early 1970's-very popular man.

  • This guy is a huge inspiration.

He is the only guy who's plays the tenor banjo, like I want to play it.

  • he looks kinda like Jerry Garcia, another great musician who was known to play "Whiskey in the Jar."

  • Met Pecker in front of St Iberius church on the main Street of Wexford Town.

Quite a character. I thought he had passed away cause I haven't seen in in a number of years.

    A mighty musician is he.

  • Met Pecker many times in West Cork in the 70/80s when he lived in Baltimore...knew his wife Madeline when she was a young girl...hope he is still going well and enjoying life...one of life's gentlemen in every senase of the word.

  • Marty Cullen Keady,

Do a search for Pecker Dunne and Sullivan's John. I believe Madfortrad is the person who posted it. Pecker was very young when he did the vid. Shortish hair, no beard, but it's The Pecker all right.

  • If this is the video with the picture at the back then this is not Pecker
