It depends on how much of the solution you put into the carpet (i.e. how fast or slow you clean) and the humidity and temperature of the room. High humidity will mean your carpet will take longer to dry. I've cleaned mine in the morning (live in Florida), left on ceiling fans, left and then it's dry when I've returned later in the day.

Best stuff to use in your steamer. Hot water and white vinegar. The vinegar smell goes away after it dries and you don't have to rinse.
