SRR didn't need to hurt Maxim, you don't need to score a KO to win, all he needed to do was outpoint him, which he was doing, very easily. Maxim weighed 16 lbs heavier than Robinson in this fight, Robinson beat Lamotta when Jake was 16 lbs heavier than Sugar in their 3rd fight , this proves that weight is not that imperative with SRR, he was very capable of beating people who outweighed him. Lamotta, by the way, was also a much better fighter than Maxim, the heat beat SRR.

Maxim lost two decisions to Jersey Joe Walcott.

Maxim fought heavyweights regularly.

Rosinson ventured too far out of his natural weight class in trying to fight Maxim and he learned his lesson.

Like I said before, Robinson beat Lamotta when he was outweighed by 16 lbs, the same difference in weight that Maxim had. So, again, it was the heat that beat him. Robinson had a substantial lead on points by the time he couldn't come out. Pacquiao has beaten men that have outweighed him, so weight classes don't mean much, its mostly about the fighter.

For some reason, you seem to be unable to comprehend the fact that a welterweight beating a middleweight, which Robinson did, is the same as a middleweight beating a light heavyweight. Granted, the welterweight limit is 147, but Robinson weighed in at 144 for his fight against Lamotta who was 160. But he was fighting a very strong 175 pounder.

He was too big and strong for Robinson.

That's why they have weight classes in boxing.

Perhaps he just wanted to prove a point by becoming a triple World Champion and then relinquish the Light Heavyweight Title after beating Maxim. I would have thought there was more money in the Middleweight division anyway.
