I'd definitely do the infinite repeat mod. Is it the big ol' blob of solder between that one leg and that resistor? And Can you help me locate that coupling capacitor to be swapped out. I'm dumb with electronics
Yes, the infinite repeats is the "blob of solder". The coupling capacitor is located next to the input jack (or the out put jack? I forget). Anyway, it's a normal sized, thru-hole film cap. I just upped it to 0.1uf, which is good for harp or bass, but maybe too big for guitar. I just realized that the diystompboxes link above is to another thread than the one I thought it was. I'll add another link up there to the REAL fab echo mod thread.
Great! Man, YT is doing weird things with my replies. I swear I tried to reply to your comments like 20 times, but they keep disappearing! Anyway, I'm glad you got it working. The other two reasonably easy mods are infinite repeats and maxed out wet signal. I've done both,a nd IMO only the infinite repeats is worth it. Doesn't change any of the original functionality, just adds the option to do a sweet lo-fi infinite repeat. the signal degrades in about 30 seconds.
The Infinite repeats mod is super simple. Use the diystomboxes link above to find instructions to do the other mods. Also, I found it worthwhile to change out the coupling capacitor for a higher value one. Easy and yields increased bass headroom.
yeah, i agree with pauluknow. the beavisaudio link is shot. yeah how do you install the delay time pot? do you solder the wire to the pin or to the spot where the resistor used to be?
Hey, see the link I put in my reply to pauluknow. Yeah, Beavis removed all info about danelectro stuff from his site due to political reasons. I'm inclined to agree with his sentiment, but I won't remove this info.... I prob won't be doing any MORE work with dano stuff though....
this is freakin amazing man!! i love your tunes btw. so im a newbie to modding. is it there any way that you could tell me as to which part of the potentiometer to solder the wires unto and also the specific spot on the pcb where the ground should be for the end of the wire? please, much needed help as im stuck. the beavis audio link is defunct so im really in need of your advice. thanks
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. Yeah, it really makes this cheap pedal into a great pedal.... If you follow the links in the "more info" section to the diystomboxes forum, there will be detailed instructions and pictures...
Man... it was really difficult. I first tried to solder it to the SMD pad of the old resitor, bu that did not work (it came off right away). So I had to use tiny gauge wire, and strip it down to a few threads. Then I sort of hooked it aroud the proper pin of the delay IC, taking great care not to touch the neighboring leg (it's TIGHT), and then I used a tiny tiny amount fo solder to keep it in place. I totally removed that SMD resistor. It works very well now, with no problems...
Hey, I put some links to tutorials about how I did it up in the "more info" section to the right of the video. Those links will lead you to detail instructions on how to do it!
Suck my tone? Oh my!

Oh my god! I did the infinite repeat mid and the freakin thing now self oscillate!!!!! Thanks a million. It's definitely a mainstay pedal on my board

I did your " hook the wire around the IC pin " technique and two hours and one angry girlfreind later ...VOILÀ!! A kick ass $15 delay pedal

How exactaly do you wire the potentiometer in place of that tiny little resistor. I tried this mod and totally ruined my Fab Echo. FUCK!

Nice, i didn't even know that you can just put a wire right on that pin like that. I'm still an ameture solderer haha, thanks for the info!

oh cool.. thanks i'll give it a go
