Sergei Rachmaninoff wrote this composition for people like Olga so that their talents would be greatly refined. He probably thought that if someone was serious enough to learn this then "Chopsticks" could be left for everybody else. Olga has captured it with style and grace and has done this song Great honor. Excellent !!
Horowitzien in some parts , Oh come on we always have to compare with " them " ,,, in some parts maybe even better !!! oh wait a minute you expected a masculen playing ?? lol ,, anyways she's like totally awesome !!!
@cerzule I saw her perform at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center last night. I have been a Rach 3 fan for over 25 years attending at least 15 live performances of this masterpeice. Nothing I've seen compares to her performance. I cried just like the first time I heard Rach 3. She portrays the story, the passion as Rachmaninoff would have wanted it told.
Martha's passion is internal, you can't really see much of her expression from her face, like Lang lang. She has very strong internal expression that no one can see but we can absolutely see Martha's strong expression from her articulation and sound that she makes. Olga Kern, is a virtuoso pianist and her expression, compare to Martha, has not much difference but most of Olga's passion is external, which is also a good thing.
Actually, if you have "excelled" at piano, it's not really sick, considering that glissando and the 2 measures following are about the easiest thing to play in the whole 3rd movement besides the slow lyrical parts (most of which are also harder to play than this). Trust me, I've played the piece. Just the opening is much, much harder than that spot. Not to mention the rest of the piece.
I just watched the whole thing on youtube and cried the whole time. I still feel like all man though, nothing bitchy about it in my book. Beauty is a funny thing :-)
She plays so beautifully.

She cries...what passion...what exelence!

Probably Rachmaninoff was somewhere in the concert hall watching her playing from behind some corner, enjoying and satisfied that
she totally captured and interpreted him in the best way and he knew that she will be the winner !

This concerto's second movement is achingly beautiful. Passionate and profound music in every way!

8:20, I watched that about 5 times in a row in a row in utter awe. Anyone who has dabbled in piano, or even excelled at it has to admit that is sick
johnnycrabcakes1 3 years ago
What, the glissando? It's a cool move but it is relatively simple, plus she missed the note at the top of it. Good performer though.

@767Jordan I don't think you have played the piece, I don't even believe you have ever seen the cover of the score.
Tell me, whose cadenza is she playing? Liar.
