When it comes to street fighting or no holds barred fighting, the following is a good judge of the effectiveness of different arts/fighting styles:
A very average/mediocre judoka or BJJ practioner would defeat a professional, world-champion boxer, kickboxer, or muay thai fighter. But there is NO WAY that a mediocre boxer/kickboxer would even have a prayer against an Olympic-level judoka or a world-champion BJJ practioner.
Boxer, kickboxer, muay thai fighter, karateka thinking they can beat a grappler is a broken elbow just begging, pleading to happen. Fucking strikers in denial better get their fucking heads out of their ass and start smelling the coffee before they get a serious wake-up call.
once the fight went to ground the muay thai chap did not have much of a chance, judo is my favourite art, but all styles are exceptional in their own way, i've done kung fu, karate, kick-boxing, aikido & now judo, for me judo is a good fit
Muay thai shoudl have stuck with elbows, punches, and clinch work. In MMA fights those leg kicks only work well consistently when the opponent is more tired, or when the opponent is in retreat.
I actually support both since I pratice both of them. But I gotta say that judo is more efficient but it needs many years to become a pro at it and with kickboxing not so much. Better than choosing is using both :D.
that isnt kickboxing u idiots! thats muay thai! There's a difference and kickboxers always hammer judo people so shut ur face! omg this thai boxer/muay thai sucks!
You're confused. The person being fucked can, by no means, be called a man. If anything, he is THE BITCH. Any kickboxer, like any other striker from ANY discipline, is absolutely no match for a patient and seasoned grappler. The judoka didn't even need to break a sweat; it's almost always the same story.
@josepablobolanos That hasn't been true for nearly twelve years. Most of the guys in the octagon at the moment are mainly strikers, it's true that you can't get by without some grappling ability, but it's also a fact that you're going to lose without a fair standup game as well. There's been a good number of knockouts in recent months because of the difference in striking ability. You need to be above average at both.
@specialforces69 You need to need your up on your history Mr. 69-the Ninja rights (incl. terms and set-out conditions), were signed and sold over a few centuries ago under the east india trade enterprise agreement to be exact (to the Japanese).
You're all wrong about the bjj/judo terms-it's called Judoitsu and the chinese NINJAS invented it (then sold it to the Japanese in their coastal trade enterprise).
"You're all wrong about the bjj/judo terms-it's called Judoitsu and the chinese NINJAS invented it (then sold it to the Japanese in their coastal trade enterprise)."
AHAHAHAH, just complete nonsense, I know you're joking.
@glock70 Read up on your history Mr. 70-the Ninja rights were signed and sold over a few centuries ago under the east india trade enterprise agreement (to the Japanese).

@BlackShinobiShozoku- Judo is a form of Jujutsu, and Jujutsu is the name for all japanese martial arts as well as being a martial art itself. and yes Judo does come from Jujutsu and BJJ comes from judo, but Judo wasn't called judo at the time hence it being BJJ not BJ.
Just throught I'd say this because there's an advert and I'm bored ;)
I started learning Jiu Jitsu because of MMA, unfortunately it was the Traditional not the Brazilian. Too many Katas and Japanese culture stuff. I want to study Judo, but again, I don't really care for all of the Katas and having to keep up with the Japanese customs.
This kickboxer is very weak...never go to closse quarter battle agaisnt judo/jujistu fighters...basic rule of kickboxing use kicks to stand back the opponet. Especialy these kind of opponents that only know how to grab. This KickBoxer fighter is very bad. Good fight thought by the judo fighter.
What's with all the MMA "practitioner" idiots on here. There is no such thing as "practitioning" MMA, you're just practicing movements developed in a variety of martial arts and forms of self-defence over hundreds of years. Don't act like you know anything, because you don't. Also buddy below is right, BJJ and JJ both come from Judo.
I'm sorry, but for real judo comes from jiu jitsu. :) Jigoro Kano was the creator of judo, he used some ground techniques from jiu jitsu and added some new ones. Then his judo school has been challenged by 11 jiu jitsu schools. The Kanos school has been used to beat all jiu jitsu schools to let judo become official martial art. :))
You have no idea what you're talking about. JUDO came from traditional jujutsu, BJJ came from judo. Maeda learned Judo from Kano, and Maeda taught Judo to the Gracies, educate yourself.
@BlackShinobiShozoku WTF are you talking about? That's what I've been saying for the past three posts: Judo came from Jiu Jitsu, Jujitsu it doesn't matter the spelling. And BJJ came from Judo. @STONCOLD5 theres no such thing as a MMA practioner your realy learning a mixture of martial arts mostly Muay Thai, Boxing and BJJ and Wrestling or somethign similar use common sense Judo is used in MMA fights
MMA is an sport.... I know sometimes it looks like two people get down from a truck and started a street fught, but with the time watching to this, you learn that MMA is a very complete sport, and to be an MMA fighter you have to be very disciplinated. By the way, Fernandez, the judo player in this video, is a 2004 judo Olympian.
in that case, BUY A 9MM BERETTA!!!! MMA IS A SPORT... judo, BJJ, etc are also sports, do not get confused!!! they are no martial art that will make you fight against 8 people... that thing doesnt exist.... is commun sense
@parag3247 ur right judo is an amazing sport as well teaches an ultimate diffence like when a soo called street fighter comes about... easy to grabb and controlle. judo is also very easy to convert in such a short period of time from sport to fight very easy!
judo is always gonna win against a pure striking art. the kickboxer had no clue how to preperly defend himself on the ground, nor how to reverse or avoid a takedown. he just stood no chance. once the thing is on the ground (and it is easier to fall than to keep standing) the judoka can do almost anything he wants. he just has to watch out for quick kicks and punches, but he is not stupid, he has reflexes too, at least good enough
I dont understand how can they compare these two styles when one of them is about your standing ability (kickbox) and the other one is "ground fight" so this vid is useless :) btw i like kickbox a lot better :)
lol i mean judo boxing vale tudo and tae kwon do are the best in MY opinion. lol bu i can understand you a bit. I hated tae kwon do a year ago. ive just thinked: kicking like little girls???^^
after seeing this im really disappointed with myself, i had 5 years of judo experience, green belt, when i was around 14, then i quit.. now im 21 and interested in mma.. but i forgot all the moves -_- after seeing the potential of judo in this vid i really wished i kept on going
I'm going to have to disagree with you on the "created for sport" part. Though I do acknowledge that sport can easily become the focus of the school (and in most cases is today), the Japanese police have trained in Judo ever since it defeated six other schools of jujitsu in 1886.
si yo hago judo....no lo cambiaria por nada del mundo! si un judoka llega a coger a CUALQUIER otra persona de otra arte marcial lo vuelve nada....solo tiene que coger un agarre.
There's a clear disadvantage for the Judokas in the UFC. A "judoka" doesn't need gloves; even though you could perform some "judo" without gi, a judo player relies on catching a grip, yet the opponents wear no attire of any sort; in the real world people are clothed with whatever. Another big disadvantage is the fact that there's no "Concrete" as the ground. Because a good SMASH IS A GOOD SMASH. It's the equivalent to a KO, for the striker.
thats true, but the same could be said for people who take traditional bjj. Judo can be modified to be effective in the cage, just look at nakamura or parisyan. When they pull of some technique it looks badass. its too bad karo just cant make it into upper levels of the 170 class
dont say bullshit, look at oleg taktarov he only uses judo and sambo that are grappling fight styles and he owns all withour any need of punches or strange attires
Kiking, punching, striking, whatever all come naturally to humans. Sutemi-waza (in judo) includes all that. Yet in a selfdefense situation a good judoka, on the street, don't even need all that crap. As a kid was a street fighter and boxer, then learned judo very young and all you need is to throw an uchimata or tai otoshi fast and intense throw on the pavement ( no fk matts) and anybody could be completely fucked.REALITY
A specialized judoka on standing techniques, namely "combo-throws, cleaned-timedly ones" would throw his/her opponent on a hard surface, believe me is not funny, and depends how you fk land ( on your head, shoulder, flatback "hard". He is finished. Judoka has to be calm and fearless. Kicks and punches could be blocked or dodged. I could also kick and punch. My judo comes naturally, no too much thinking. Judo " RULES "

You're correct.
Jujutsu was a layman term for a lot of "unarmed" forms of combat used by the samurai.(Not all Japanese martial arts).
And yes Judo was often referred to as Jujutsu. But it was still called Judo at the time as well.
The argument here was merely spelling when referring to the Japanese art of Jujutsu.

Jitsu actually is the romanization of the kanji for "truth" or "moon"
Jujutsu is an art.

What is better judo or kickboxing?
TheMuffinC 2 years ago
If they have the same level of skill and the same weight, the judo-player will win.
boxingjos 2 years ago 4
Judo would probably win indeed, but nothing is sure because I think in light weight fast and strong kickboxers like buakaw might win....
And also depend on the rules I think
Beer035 2 years ago
Buakaw is a verrry good thai-boxer, but beleve me, against a 71 kg ( 160.9 lbs) champion-judo-player/ wrestler or sambo champ, Buakaw will lose.
(To give you some idea what a judo-player would do against a stand-up-fighter; go to my favorites and watch "Judo-pick ups III". )

Still I would prefer to be great at kicboxing and competent at takedown defense and a bit of groundwork than the other way round.

Brazilan Jiu jitsu came from Judo. Judo at the time was called Kano Jiu jitsu
TormentedJudoka 2 years ago 3
Totaly wrong Judo has always been called Kodokan Judo Goggle judo history and u will c

bjj came from jujitsu.... jido also came from jujitsu, they were both created for sport
XxUnknownxX8 2 years ago
Mitsuyo Maeda was a Kodokan Judoka who traveled to Brazil and taught Carlos Gracie.
So in a sense, you're right.
Jujitsu = grandpa
Judo = son
Brazilian Jiu-jitsu = grandson
Deej1188 2 years ago 3
I'm going to have to disagree with you on the "created for sport" part. Though I do acknowledge that sport can easily become the focus of the school (and in most cases is today), the Japanese police have trained in Judo ever since it defeated six other schools of jujitsu in 1886.

si yo hago judo....no lo cambiaria por nada del mundo! si un judoka llega a coger a CUALQUIER otra persona de otra arte marcial lo vuelve nada....solo tiene que coger un agarre.

maybe you should try wearing gi's next time you train
synthem 3 years ago
There's a clear disadvantage for the Judokas in the UFC. A "judoka" doesn't need gloves; even though you could perform some "judo" without gi, a judo player relies on catching a grip, yet the opponents wear no attire of any sort; in the real world people are clothed with whatever. Another big disadvantage is the fact that there's no "Concrete" as the ground. Because a good SMASH IS A GOOD SMASH. It's the equivalent to a KO, for the striker.
Fintolgano 3 years ago
thats true, but the same could be said for people who take traditional bjj. Judo can be modified to be effective in the cage, just look at nakamura or parisyan. When they pull of some technique it looks badass. its too bad karo just cant make it into upper levels of the 170 class
dxx676 3 years ago
dont say bullshit, look at oleg taktarov he only uses judo and sambo that are grappling fight styles and he owns all withour any need of punches or strange attires

Fintolgano 3 years ago
A specialized judoka on standing techniques, namely "combo-throws, cleaned-timedly ones" would throw his/her opponent on a hard surface, believe me is not funny, and depends how you fk land ( on your head, shoulder, flatback "hard". He is finished. Judoka has to be calm and fearless. Kicks and punches could be blocked or dodged. I could also kick and punch. My judo comes naturally, no too much thinking. Judo " RULES "

en el judo la desventaja es que no podes dar piña ni patadas, pero si te agarra en el suelo fuiste..
