I realized I couldn't get my dog to bark with any item. Not even treats until I realized the stresser is me. So I put the leash on her and tied her up. I walked up stairs and started saying "speak" and after two-three minutes she acted then I came down and rewarded her with positive words and her favorite treat

OMG ur tip didnt really work with mine, but i tried another way that might help alot of people with dogs that bark alot. well she was barking at my neighbor when he was riding his bike, i dont know why, but she was, and then i kept saying speak! and then i would show her a treat, so i told her to speak and she barked i gave her the treat. keep trying that over and over and they might get it. now she wont stop! i will try to put a video of her doing it if i get a chance. hope it helps
my dog Nanuq, a Siberian Husky, is learning tricks really well but I'm trying to get her from only doing lay down with treats. What should I do? And also, apparently Husky's are really talkative but when I tried to teach her speak she keeps quiet but when I ask her to be quiet she barks and howls. What should I do with this as well?

I have a 6 month old Border Collie x Labrador, and i've tried to do this with her favourite toy. But she's more of a.. dog that doesn't bark when shes playing.. Can this change? like.. do you think I can still get to her speak?
I tried this with my dog and all she did was look at it for 5 minutes so I pretty much spent five minutes waving a treat back and forth saying speak over and over agian for nothing.
@cheeseloverchick My dog does the same thing! I've had repeated sessions trying to train her like this guy says. It never works. :( All she does is stare at the treat. Yet she will bark at noise the neighbors make, any knock at the door, and any sudden noise I accidentally make. It's frustrating. lol
This works. I just taught my Jack Russell to speak in a few minutes. She knew how to speak on command at 8 weeks, but she forgot. Thanks for the tip! :)

i have a question about training my dog. i try to get him to follow the treat, but instead, he just turns away and continues with shat he's doing what should i do??
i have a 6 yr old half rotweiler and half lab, he has this REALLY bad habit to pull on the leash the minute he sees another dog, and he really likes to bark when there are guests in the house he is really awkward when there are guests but he lets them pet him although you can tell he is nervous but then he will go to his sitting couch and well hump it how do i stop this behavior and teach him no to drag me across the park when he sees another animal and to not be awkward with people in my house
i have a 3 month old pit bull and she is a really loveable dog and pretty smart i thought her a few tricks n she caught on really fast. but im having a really hard time house breaking her. when i take her outside she know to use the bathroom but the problem is when she is in the house she'll go when she needs too she wont let us know when she needto go outside like our other dog. ive set pads around the house for her to use and she goes to them but alot of times she doesnt. any advice?
@jdbethename we had the same problem. our pit now 1 year and 4 months now knows not to potty in the house. we learned for every month old the pup is that's how long they hold their bladder in hours. another thing is after they drink or eat take them out the house to use the bathroom. or they eat or drink, 2 to 3 hours later take them out. hope this help. you just have to watch them at such a young age
I have a problem with my dog. He never barks....EVER! The only times i've heard him bark would be when something threatened me but other than that he is the quietest dog ever. He is an american bulldog and he is turning 1 on june 7th. I've had him since he was 2 months and he is a very quick learner. I wanted to train my dog to be a little more aggressive and less of a pussy, because my big american bulldog is afraid of yorkies....that makes me feel embarassed. Can you give me any tips?
Can some one help me please I can't teach my dog to bark when i play with here with a toy she like she get excited but don't bark please some one help me please????
you are brilliant.! thank you.! i just got a border terrier about a month ago. he can already play dead when you say 'bang bang' and he also can army crawl. im working on speak and this helped immensely. thank you!
Dude, in under 2 minutes of this video you've shown your genius!!! I HATE "TREAT-TRAINERS"!!! Thank you for posting this!!! 5 stars!!! New subscriber!
um... i have, i don't just parrot what i read or hear i test it to see if i like it, i judge by the dogs body language if it is happy and enthusiastic and doesn't want to stop i know that its working
@alexanye No offense, but you're 15. Nothing against that, I started training professionally when I was 15 but there is no way you've got enough experience to be teaching others from experience.
@alexanye Hey, I'm not trying to offend. Your profile says your age is 15 so I know you don't have experience in training dogs. Not a problem, though, now is a perfect time to start. Best of luck in your ventures.
iv got the same problem as this person (((Minkyman91 Hi i need some help. I tried this and my husky WILL not speak. she just gives up and lays down. No matter WHAT I use......thanks alot.)))) my dog rocky does the same thing he just gives up and wont bark at all no matter what

I taught my 5 month old labrador to speak using your advice..
the cpommand is "woof"
I used treats to get her frsutrated, as labs will do ANYTHING for food..I'm a little bit concerned though. Shes never ever been a barker. When i do woof with her.. Her lips sort of go back and she growls a little bit, like shes trying to get the bark out and sometimes jumps.
Im scared that this trick might encourage AGRESSION?
You see, I don't get that. Why do I need to carry around a silly clicker to mark a moment of good behavior? Why can't I say 'good boy'?
Your analogy doesn't work because the clicker isn't the paycheck, it's the treat associated with the clicker that is the paycheck.
Aside from the fact that the treat training movement is the most dangerous thing that has happened to dog training in the last two decades, if you're going to use treats, that is the paycheck...not a click from a silly gizmo.
Why do you need the clicker to mark the 'paycheck'? Why can't you say 'good boy'? It seems ridiculous to have to carry a clicker around and I've still never heard any intelligent reasoning for having a clicker when I've got a perfectly good voice that can mark a positive behavior.
just saying good boy doesn't really tell the animal what you are treating, or paying them for them for. we as humans say good boy all of the time, its a habit almost, having a very distinct sound that ALWAYS has a treat following it lets the animal know that that is what they are being treated and rewarded for, can you train a fish by saying good boy? not the last time i checked, just please read the book!
I don't care about training fish, I'm interested in training dogs. And the dogs I work with are intelligent enough to know that when I say 'good boy' or 'good girl' that I'm praising them for what they did. I never needed a book to tell me that.
I appreciate you trying to educate me about why this is a valuable tool but I still don't see the sense after 15 years of successfully training dogs. To me verbal praise will always be more valuable than a silly click because I don't need a gadget to give it and I'd rather have my dogs work for me, and not for a click.
animals NEVER work for people, that's like saying that people with a desk job there because they like it and they could care less about getting money. what people don't realise is dogs do things for them, its kind of selfish really, dogs work for what they want, they will do what we want if it gives them what there desired outcome.
@alexanye Wrong again. I've been training working dogs for years and dogs do work for people. Dogs have a need to fit into the group, just like people, and pleasing the leader of the group fulfills a need for the dog.
That is the drive and need that I teach dogs to use to be obedient, not clickers and treats. I don't need my dog to respect a clicker, I want him to respect me.
I applaud you for the research you are doing, now it's time to get out and get hands on experience. Best of luck.
@communicanine um... no dogs really don't. i don't know were all of this leader stuff comes from but dogs are not wolves... there related but that's like saying that a bird is a carnivore because its related to dinosaurs. dogs want to make them selves happy!
@alexanye Exactly. And dogs come from a hierarchical system where they understand that making others happy i.e. working for others, can also make them happy. I've trained thousands of dogs over the years and haven't had to resort to being a treat trainer.
The theory that you read about in these books is flawed. You can't just re-spout the theory that you read, you need to get out and see what actually works in dog training.
@alexanye.That's not true. a good example is my dog Klaus. He's a 20 lb white miniature schnauzer and loves doing stuff for us. he knows how to sit, stay, come, dance, balance on his hind feet, roll over, play dead, shake, give hugs and high fives, and he goes completely nuts when he does it right simply for the reason that we're pleased with him. he doesn't even need treats. he's good protection on walks and will stand up to pitbulls with no prob. i love my dog and he loves me so suck it up.
I tried this but my little westie just cried and cried. I couldn't watch him any longer. He was so upset and thought he was going to hurt his neck, so I'm afraid this didn't work for him. :(

@voAGov Yes. With a little bit of effort one bark turns into two and so on.

i have a 6 yr old half rotweiler and half lab, he has this REALLY bad habit to pull on the leash the minute he sees another dog, and he really likes to bark when there are guests in the house he is really awkward when there are guests but he lets them pet him although you can tell he is nervous but then he will go to his sitting couch and well hump it how do i stop this behavior and teach him no to drag me across the park when he sees another animal and to not be awkward with people in my house

i have a 3 month old pit bull and she is a really loveable dog and pretty smart i thought her a few tricks n she caught on really fast. but im having a really hard time house breaking her. when i take her outside she know to use the bathroom but the problem is when she is in the house she'll go when she needs too she wont let us know when she needto go outside like our other dog. ive set pads around the house for her to use and she goes to them but alot of times she doesnt. any advice?
jdbethename 1 year ago
@jdbethename My advice is to not use pads ever. You are training your dog that it's okay to go to the bathroom in the house. Not a good thing.

@jdbethename I'M RAGING AT THIS COMMENT, I HATE MISSPELLINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Assassin1202 1 year ago

@alexanye No offense, but you're 15. Nothing against that, I started training professionally when I was 15 but there is no way you've got enough experience to be teaching others from experience.
communicanine 1 year ago
@communicanine how? you don't know me... you also have no idea how long i'v been doing this
alexanye 1 year ago
@alexanye Hey, I'm not trying to offend. Your profile says your age is 15 so I know you don't have experience in training dogs. Not a problem, though, now is a perfect time to start. Best of luck in your ventures.

how do you teach a dog to bark on command and not when it wants to bark.
muirath 1 year ago
if your dog starts barking even though you dont ask him to how do you show him that he barks when you ask him to not when he wants to?
muirath 1 year ago
Hi Ty.
i really liked this video!
Im scared that this trick might encourage AGRESSION?
what does everyone think??

Would using a clicker be good here?
picatsoforfma 2 years ago
After all my years in training, studying training, being around other trainers, etc. I still don't see the value of a clicker.
communicanine 2 years ago
then i dont see the value of your pay check!
alexanye 1 year ago
You see, I don't get that. Why do I need to carry around a silly clicker to mark a moment of good behavior? Why can't I say 'good boy'?
Your analogy doesn't work because the clicker isn't the paycheck, it's the treat associated with the clicker that is the paycheck.
Aside from the fact that the treat training movement is the most dangerous thing that has happened to dog training in the last two decades, if you're going to use treats, that is the paycheck...not a click from a silly gizmo.
communicanine 1 year ago
Why do you need the clicker to mark the 'paycheck'? Why can't you say 'good boy'? It seems ridiculous to have to carry a clicker around and I've still never heard any intelligent reasoning for having a clicker when I've got a perfectly good voice that can mark a positive behavior.
communicanine 1 year ago
just saying good boy doesn't really tell the animal what you are treating, or paying them for them for. we as humans say good boy all of the time, its a habit almost, having a very distinct sound that ALWAYS has a treat following it lets the animal know that that is what they are being treated and rewarded for, can you train a fish by saying good boy? not the last time i checked, just please read the book!
alexanye 1 year ago
I don't care about training fish, I'm interested in training dogs. And the dogs I work with are intelligent enough to know that when I say 'good boy' or 'good girl' that I'm praising them for what they did. I never needed a book to tell me that.
communicanine 1 year ago
I appreciate you trying to educate me about why this is a valuable tool but I still don't see the sense after 15 years of successfully training dogs. To me verbal praise will always be more valuable than a silly click because I don't need a gadget to give it and I'd rather have my dogs work for me, and not for a click.
communicanine 1 year ago
animals NEVER work for people, that's like saying that people with a desk job there because they like it and they could care less about getting money. what people don't realise is dogs do things for them, its kind of selfish really, dogs work for what they want, they will do what we want if it gives them what there desired outcome.
alexanye 1 year ago
@alexanye Wrong again. I've been training working dogs for years and dogs do work for people. Dogs have a need to fit into the group, just like people, and pleasing the leader of the group fulfills a need for the dog.
That is the drive and need that I teach dogs to use to be obedient, not clickers and treats. I don't need my dog to respect a clicker, I want him to respect me.
I applaud you for the research you are doing, now it's time to get out and get hands on experience. Best of luck.
communicanine 1 year ago
@communicanine um... no dogs really don't. i don't know were all of this leader stuff comes from but dogs are not wolves... there related but that's like saying that a bird is a carnivore because its related to dinosaurs. dogs want to make them selves happy!
alexanye 1 year ago
@alexanye Exactly. And dogs come from a hierarchical system where they understand that making others happy i.e. working for others, can also make them happy. I've trained thousands of dogs over the years and haven't had to resort to being a treat trainer.
The theory that you read about in these books is flawed. You can't just re-spout the theory that you read, you need to get out and see what actually works in dog training.
communicanine 1 year ago
@alexanye.That's not true. a good example is my dog Klaus. He's a 20 lb white miniature schnauzer and loves doing stuff for us. he knows how to sit, stay, come, dance, balance on his hind feet, roll over, play dead, shake, give hugs and high fives, and he goes completely nuts when he does it right simply for the reason that we're pleased with him. he doesn't even need treats. he's good protection on walks and will stand up to pitbulls with no prob. i love my dog and he loves me so suck it up.
