  • how much blood is lost during brain surgery?

  • the open up the head to fix the brain?

  • _____"Hee-hee! That tickles!"

_____No, just kiddin'. The brain can't feel a thing. However... If some dude is pokin' around in there and pokes the wrong way, all kinds of interesting stuff can happen. Seeing colors, talking trash, probably even forgetting his or her own face, who knows? Some doctors once got somebody to have an out-of-body experience by using electrodes jabbed into some dude's gourd. How's THAT grab ya?

  • They always keep them awake..........................if they don't they wouldn't now if their doing something wrong....

  • This is what my scrambled eggs looked like after adding lots of hot sauce.

  • i know wat there speaking its hindu i can understand them theyre saying show me yur teeth and hands india is filled with crazy shit

  • He needs dentist too.

  • you should implant microchips into peoples brains and control them

  • @fuckcomments Thats already done without chips. Sheep.

  • wow i had no idea that could be done.

  • how do they reach the brain? do they cut out your skull? at least, thats wath ive seen in saw 3 :P

  • @BIueFalcon Something like that yes.

  • @DaggersDen oeh, tasty :D

  • @BIueFalcon Ew lol.

  • im about to have a tumour removed on the 20th sept. this video has helped. thanks

  • Cool

  • hey dr. tell ur fucking patient to brush his teeth with collgate coz he looks like donkey smilling

  • and you nerds tought chuck norris is a pro, just live with it, he's an actor these are pros

  • You cant do surgery on brain if you are sleeping.

  • @marctoro96 that is entirely incorrect, you can operate on a brain to resect a tumor, or to remove or fix an aneurism. the reason this patient is conscious is because the doctor is doing some kind of stimulation where he needs to know if he's fixing the right part of the brain, where as a tumor or an aneurism already has a fixed point and the patient has consented to surgery so it's his fault if he loses memory or function

  • @marctoro96 I had brain surgery while sleeping. Have you had brain surgery?

  • Can you perform brain tumor removal surgery? =l

  • @hulkyou1234 yes you can, it's called a resection

  • @janson540 Is it possible that some brain tumors are so big that doctors aren't able to help the patient anymore? D:

  • It would have been so dam funny if the doctors were like " WHERE THE FUCK IS HIS BRAIN ?! "

  • dammit!!

  • Doctor, I have known since I was about 8 years old, that the brain itself has no sensory feeling, except for it's outer membranes like the meninges, and the periosteum, because the brain itself has no nerve endings along the surface of the cerebral/cerebellar cortex. I understand so much about the brain, simply because I've been reading about the brain since I was 8 years old.

  • Knowing what do about brain anatomy, the brain itself feels nothing, but if areas olng the surface of the brain are stimulated, like the occipital lobe for instance, visual changes will happen, like visual hallucinations for instance, if the sensory lobes are stimulated in different areas - look this up on wikipedia under sensory homunuculus, a person may have different sensations in their hands, or different areas of their body. I do a lot of reading on these fields, out of interest.

  • nice video but brian doesnt feel pain,am i wrong?

  • thats right, and thats why he could be awaken

  • correct it has no pain sensors except for the skull itself

  • lol.. talk about lack of patient privacy.. they would NEVER let you bring a camera into the OR in the west.

  • Does that hurt?

  • whats the point of this video? all brain surgery needs to be performed on a conscious patient. all kinds of shit could go wrong if they were out and you wouldnt know until they died.

  • I wish i can assess a surgery like that..

craniotomy & all of the other amazing surgery.

    I wanna see it...

  • ARE YOU STUPID.? The brain has no nerve ending meaning that you cant feel a thing. The brain is the only organ of the body where, because its so protected, there are no neurons.

  • The brain do feel sensations of other organs, but itself has only few areas where there are pain receptors like in its coverings called meninges near the base of the brain, around blood vessels like sinuses and arteries. We block the pain sensitive area of scalp and periosteum (membranous cover of the skull bone) by long acting local anesthetic agents.

Did the stupidity vanished now? Its not you, your EGO is at fault. Unburden yourself of this Ego.

  • Im proud of you for knowing how to use google. its really impressive. But the brain feels no...none....zip pain. Any pain felt within the brain is pain from blood vessles constricting such as headaches. Get a degree b4 messing with me. and if i wanted your comeback i would of whiped it off your chin bud

  • ok youre only like 19. calm down you dont even have a degree

  • @drpkjha lol icehouse the doctor just took you down

  • @drpkjha: I think it's not real awake, you must have used dexmedetomidine?is that true?

  • @ICEHOUSE136 Em... The brain has the highest contration of nuerons in your body. There are no nerves though

  • @ICEHOUSE136

The brain is full of neurons..

  • @ICEHOUSE136 you might not fill it at the time mate but trust me you can smell it when they are cutting it out and trust me your in pain for about 2 months after

  • @ICEHOUSE136 then what do you call a headache? -_-

  • @ICEHOUSE136 LOL U GOT FUCKING OWNED FAGGOT..HAHAHHHAHAHAHAHA

  • @ICEHOUSE136 There are no neurons? You sir, are a moron.

  • @ICEHOUSE136 listen to yourself. "there are no neurons." you're talking about the brain! of course there are neurons. You may be referring to the fact that there are no sensory nerve endings for touch or pain in the cortex. As it is the brains responsibility to feel pain from the entire body, feeling pain from itself would be counter-intuitive.

  • @ICEHOUSE136 You're funny. Calling a BRAIN SURGEON stupid. If you're so 'intelligent' why don't you get a doctoral degree in medicine?

  • @ICEHOUSE136 YOU ARE THE MOST IGNORANT PERSON I HAVE EVER SEEN!!! you are so disrespectful and rude i hope you are not in the medical field with that ignorant trashy attitude of yours. how dare you call a brain surgeon stupid. you have no respect at all. and for the record the brain is the center of the nervous system so there for you need to learn some respect you ignorant jerk. i am just a patient care tech and i know your comment is just totally out of wack UGH!!!!

  • @ICEHOUSE136 "There are no neurons in the brain", wow...

  • that must be painful to be awake while they did surgery on your brain:(

  • Yes. IN OT people often wear sandals. I had my 1 week rotation in OT and I had to take my own slippers as well. You cannot wear your shoes there they will be dirty. You change all your clothes and shoes and cover your head before going inside the theater. If you want to wear your shoes then you have to cover them with plastics and then it is not very comfortable to walk and you may slip. So people keep a pair of sandals or some other comfy footwear which is easy to clean.

  • I mean 1 month rotation.

  • like

  • umm well have you ever heard of REM your eye moves fast during sleep.. so idk how they do it unless it dont move if your unconsious

theres no way i could keep my eye still in one place for an hour or so.

  • I don't think there is REM, I had two previous surgeries with full anes, and I don't feel like sleeping. no dream and no sense of time passed. but it feels so horrible after that.

in the awake one, I worried like what you said, one hour no move. but you just can't. you ll be too busy around you. beside the local anes, and the big holder in your eye. You can talk with doctors, listen to music in the room. Now personally prefer this way over full. After it, I ate lunch, drunk coffee, normal

  • "rain receives pain, but it does not have pain sensations itself! "

    didn't no that! so cool.

  • lol can they make her move and do things by poking her brain?

  • thats gotta hurt!!

  • anesthetics for he skull and skin, and no sense of pain or touch in the brain = no pain what so ever =)

  • Actually he cant feel a thing! your brain has no pain receptors

  • "Brain receives pain, but it does not have pain sensations itself!"

but and the skin or the skull?

  • Yes, skin and skull do have pain sensations which we block by injecting local anesthetics.

  • Anything can happen.

I did surgery to my eye, while I was awake, I was horrified by the idea, but had to do it anyway, because the doctor said, we only give full anesthesia to kids. I had to watch my surgery, although the eye is blurry, but I can see the ghost of the needle and part my eye being lifted. but was still can feel pain especially when he started to sew it, then the efffing anti-bacterial liquid .

but it was great, I didn't feel stomach pain, immediately drunk coffee after

  • they would never do eye surgery on a awake person. if you moved your eye just a millimeter they might cut through the wrong bit and blind you

  • You can't move your eye. they use local anesthetic. but you still can see, and can close, but you can't move or close, because they place a big holder that keeps your eye open and standstill. I had surgery like that. I was able to see while the surgery is going on in my eye. and sometimes little feel pain, especially when they dropped a liquid at the end.

I had transplant. but the feeling after the surgery is great, no stomach problem, and no much pain.

  • psychology = brain surgery? Anesthesia is mandatory for the pain.

  • That is scary shit !!!

    operation crrreeeeps me out!

  • So lets say the docter pulled a nurve and the patents hand comes up and totley slaps the surgen... what then

  • Then the doctor pull the "Grab yourself in the balls and pullf" nerve in revenge...

  • He was hoping to go to the dentist

  • LOL :)=

  • aha so if the patient starts talking senseless things you know you've doing something wrong?

  • That guy needs an orthodontist ...not a nuerosurgeon

  • he is smiling! like a trip to the barber!

  • lol that made me laugh

  • omg man u know nothing about anatomy.. the doctors said 2 do so that he they are sure they damaged nothing on his brain..

  • @whoisondrugs hes not smiling, theyre telling him to grimace to test cranial nerve functions and motor fnxs

  • They use medium anthesia, am I rite?

  • how much does a brain surgeon get in uk?

  • 12 or 13.

  • 12 or 14 hundred? what currency.

  • 1,929,471,471,319,127,138 Euros

  • i believe the reason why they keep the patient awake is so they won't go into a comba or faint in their sleep (if it is possible). I think they make them read something aloud maybe. It's kinda interesting though but tell me if i'm wrong! lol

  • i dont think so,, a number of times have i seen programs indicating that the body must be knocked out,, nice try :P

  • they keep the patient awake most of the times actually.

  • The patient is put to sleep when they cut open the skull. During surgery the patient is fully awake.

  • That guy needs to see a dentist and orthodontist, not a brain surgeon...

  • lollllllllllllllllllllllll

  • There are no nerves in the brain so therefore the patient feels nothing. However, when the neurosurgeon probes different areas of the brain the patient may start moving there fingers or shaking their arm. Also, this is how they find out (In a patient with epilepsy) the region in the brain where the seizures are occuring. The difficult and scary part is that a mistake could be fatal to the person getting surgery.

  • dosent the patient feel pain, and dosent the patient go in shock from so much pain during the surgery

  • The brain does not have nerves.

  • but does the skull have pain?

  • I think they use local anesthesia as well in the skull.

I wonder how they put back all the skull pieces..

    God bless modern medicine!

  • they insert a metal peice in a skull to substitute for the skull peice

  • and tiny titanium bolts or clamps. it's kinda cool when you think of it

  • The patient must stay awake so the doctors know they are doing everything right.

They poke around in her brain and if she is unable to do normal body functions, they know they are doing something wrong.

  • that must hurt

  • scary!!!!!!!!!

  • OMG that is freaky

  • lol kinda freeky have someone poking aroun in yer head.

  • dude, they keep all patients awake during brain surgey

  • Only 1-2% of brain operations are done 'awake'.

  • no pain? what about headaches???

  • that shit was sick!

  • thats very painful

  • Brains don't feel pain, FYI.

  • The brain has no pain sensors.

  • theyre speakin urdu, omg, my dad, the first course for surgery he took, my dad almost fainted..haha

  • I was always wondering if the brain itself could sense pain.

  • not the brain without the body. I have a brain, but also a body, so I sense pain.

  • wow i would have never let dem do that 2 me id run away!

  • You'd rather die?

  • Thats amazing. Theres no way I could lay there while someone cut my head open and poked my brain about.

I dont see why you would bother keeping the patient awake to ensure that the vital brain functions arent damaged because surely it wont stop it happening, it will only let you know when you've messed up.

  • Before they actually do anything that could cause damage, they probe certain spots of the brain with these electrode type things, monitor the response, and then map out the responses on a computer. That way, they'll know whether or not they're damaging tissue that will cause the patient to lose any function, and they can work around those spots. I had one done last month, and i would be paralyzed in my left side had I not been awake.

  • that must have been amazing, but i assume its your job so you do it regularly

  • he needs a surgery for his fuckin teeth

  • WTF !!¿¿

  • i wanna grow up to be just like you!

  • W T F !?!?!?!

  • My praise to the doctors.Bravery for the patient.

  • Haat uthaw. -Whoa he moved his hand.

  • THERE AWAKE!!! nooo way this is totally craaazy lol !! if that was me i think i would cry, even if i couldnt feel anything !

  • most all brain surgeries are done while the patient is awake. The brain actually has no feeling to it,as wierd as that sounds. It's easier to monitor the patients condition if they are awake. Pretty cool,eh?

  • yes but when they pull out that miniture circular saw...and start carving into your SKULL you can feel pain :)

  • I'm afraid you're wrong.

  • Is the patient immobilized somehow? What is to prevent a patient that suddenly moves?

  • heavy, heavy, nearly deadly sedations?

  • they usually strap their head in with a big frame thing made of steel... pretty much they cant move their head

  • oh yeah i know, but how does the patient not feel it?

  • Only the skin of the scalp has pain receptors, so a local anesthetic is given. The skull and brain can't feel. It's pretty fascinating!

  • What a brave man

  • even though the brain wouldnt hurt, wouldnt opening the skull hurt like fuck?

  • In the begginig of the vid... THAT was the brain??? it lookede small. Like the size of my mouse in the computer

  • The part of brain seen in the video frame is only where the tumour was. This area is just about 2 % of the surface area of one side of brain. We dont expose the whole brain but only the area of interest, more so, if the patient is given only local anesthesia because making a large opening is difficult in an awake patient. Thanks for the interest.

  • with local anaesthesia, it's not that bad.

  • thats what wanna do

  • that hurts
