HEY MORRONS!!! they guy is tlaking about wast wood not cutting down the worlds forest to make gas.....duh
wood has much less polutants in it as well, the wood would also be burnt any ways as waste so it actually helps the enviroment by geting use out of it by putting it in our tanks. Plus it reduces the demand for rag head oil which inturn will reduce the cost or gas...wake up people!
They burned thousands of tonnes of waste from Hurricane Ivan. It could have been used for anything but they just wasted it. Oh, and they are using wood waste now to make pellets for heaters and such. It is no longer free here but I doubt all waste is used. I think soon they will figure out how to profit off everything we could use to save the planet and ourselves. This is a bad idea, trees also keep the temperature down and moisture in the soil. The earth will bake and us along with it.
SUSTAINABLE cellulose- trees, crop wastes, sawdust from furniture mills, newspaper from landfills, switchgrass (a prarie grass that doesn't require, weeding, irrigation or fertilizer - only cutting & bailing) will also clean the atmosphere and prevent pollution and CO2 buildup of burning petroleum. Fast growing species of hybrid poplar could be economical for this. Construction waste wood and all the wood from all the buildings destroyed by Katrina was wasted it could have fueled our hybrids.
just bring the damn horses back;and get u guns and kick the politicians out,get a goverment that ovey the desires of the country, and send those militaries from the sargents up to the generals together with bush mcain obama and hilary to figth any war they want; but cancel the tax on u home u light u education u medical u transportation u water u fone u clothes u furniture and u food, see how long this suckers could be on war with any one outer;its time to regain u freedom liberty and happiness
Hemp will do this and alot more and can be a source of food also . Hemp has been the main industial product thru our worlds history. And if its not so useful then why is everyone growing it except the USA?Grows damn near anywhere and the medical society even endorses it.
How is sustainable fuel that doesn't contribute to global warming and costs 1/4th the cost of petroleum from the perpetually worn torn Middle East stupid? I think Algae biodiesel is another promising route to compliment this approach. since our cars are mostly gasoline powered and our trucks are mostly diesel powered. Combine this fuel with efficient vehicles like hybrids and sell it to the world and we can rescue our debt ridden economy.
actually it does contribute to global warming cause we would be taking away trees that soak up CO2 and then burning the tree to release stored CO2 in the tree
wonderful, if you can limit the technology to the use of agricultural wastes, and the limit the output to powering aircraft and backup engines on sailing ships and a maybe few other mobile devices that have no reasonable alternative to combustion fuel. of course, as many of you mentioned, we need to return farmland to continuous natural habitat, not create more crops, if we want the earth to recover its ability to stabilize in support of life as we know it.
I don't get people sometimes! We are already reducing the forest area by more then 60,000 square kilometers per year.
...farmers would give up some of their crops to replace with (slow growing) trees?
Considering that trees reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide, remove air pollutants, reduce flooding and water pollutants...do we really want to compromise the forests that we have left?
This is the same technology that is leading to the current food shortage. Rich businesses buying up grain and the like to make biofuel and there's none to eat.
The food shortage that the poorest people in the world are suffering for.
Can we find people on this planet who think of all the implications of their decisions. Rather than think, "oh that seems like a good idea" and repent at their leisure and our suffering.
Ideally, doing this would mean that the grain wouldn't be used to make biofuel, but I will admit that the "ideal" never happens. This could be a very positive development in that sense, though, again, gotta admit that humanity rarely comes close to the ideal.
Great idea it will encourage more "tree farming" which could give farmers an extra boast in income helping our economy and not sending it to corrupt oil rich countries.
first off, we get most of our oxygen not from trees on land, but from photosynthetic algae in the ocean. and what about the tree farms used to make paper? oh god, paper products. this is a plausible (realistic) solution to a major problem.
from 70 to 90%, researched from various sources. this is a better alternative than using corn to make ethanol because we eat corn. we do not eat trees.
So rape the entire forest so that we can drive cars? Even if we plant more trees, they may take decades to delevop at the size of the original trees. I find this research to be sickening and nothing more than a short term solution to keep big oil companies in business. We've had alternatives to oil cars for decades. Why not use them? Because big oil doesn't want it.
Well it can't be more than a short-term thing. Like for the corn, the only point in using that fuel instead of extracted petroleum is the cost. It does not save the planet on any regard. Just everybody keep in mind it's no more than a business and political move.
wow yall are stupid.. who cares about this??

If they do it with bamboo and other rapid growth plants, I think it would be better off for all of us.
But at least it is a step in the right direction.
