Is that a negative or positive comment? I wanted to use a background music that had no words and for me, matched the surrealistic images. Perhaps George Harrison's musical style is not everyone's favorite as it is mine? Se la vie!
Is this the French movie Stevie Nicks is talking about when she wrote the song Beauty & the Beast? She said she was inspired by this "French movie"? Check out flamingcrystal she has the Stevie vid where she talks about it. Anyway, great combination of vid & music!
The images, conjured by Cocteau, are the true lasting magic of this classic. I do not believe in the practice of changing movies by adding recent music to classic movie scenes. This film can stand alone without any additional aid.
Goes to show, you can't please everyone! Do you have any suggestions on what you would have chosen instead? I don't speak French and found it very difficult to edit the dialogue of this film so went with a musical score instead.
I wanted a dream-like melody for the clips I chose from this film and personally liked this George Harrison composition "Marwa Blues" that was won a Grammy in 2004 (Harrison died in 2002).
I just saw this movie recently and loved it. I had watched it one night on television and to my surprise the next month we watched it in french class. It really was amazing.
I rented this movies years back. I was so pleased to find this! I think you did a wonderful job. It is a classic love story. The hallway scene with the arms moving...is just wonderful! Thank you!
Bravo.
Sorry you didn't like it. I am a big Beatle fan and personally found this composition by George Harrison to have a dream-like quality to it that worked for me with the surreal images from this film.
Don't be worried ! It's not a real criticism but I was just very surprised you associate this music with this film....I'm french...and The Beaty and the Beast ist one of our big classics. I saw it at least twenty times and I LOVE George for so many time....but together I just feel it "bizarre".... But that's good to have imagination...Take it easy !
I love this fairytale so much in al its versions...i was wondering...did u save the movie onto ur computer and take the clips that way? or did u get them off of limewire?
I extract video and audio from DVDs using freeware for Mac. Application names are: OSEx, MM2D, a52decX. The files are imported into iMovie and I edit from there plus use Garageband to tweak audio if necessary. It's more time consuming than using pro editing software but it's lots cheaper!
THANKS! It was difficult to chose which scenes to edit out from this film but in order to meet YouTube specs, I had to make some hard decisions. I strongly encourage all to see this movie uncut for themselves and enjoy it to its fullest!
Very interesting. Thank you for sharing. This does indeed have some surrealist feel in it especially with Harrison's dream-like music. I do enjoy the beauty and the beast as a story, so I'm also fond of the Disney version. Yes, it's such a shame that Disney tends to focus so much more on the silly and the commercially viable than giving significance and beauty to the animation. They are capable of creating some fine imagery. By the way, have you seen any bits of the Destino?
I have not been able to find "Destino" at all in my area. I would give anything to see the work of Dali and Disney together, even if it is only a few minutes long. Do you know what format this is available in and what the title is? THANKS!
You are correct. Cocteau made his first film, Blood of a Poet, in 1929. La Belle et la Bete was his second film and was one of the first major French productions of the post-war era. I will rephrase my text intro to reflect this.
The music is "Marwa Blues" by George Harrison. You can find it on his album, "Brainwashed," released in 2002. He won a Grammy for this in 2004. It is the album's only instrumental. "Marwa Blues" is a 3-minute 41-second piece but I looped it so it plays twice in order to fit my clips. It's one of my favorite Harrison works!
I am always reminded of a Dali painting when I watch this movie! The director, Jean Cocteau, was greatly influenced by the surrealist artists. Hope you get to see this film sometime in its original glory!!!
Salut, c'est le film de la belle et la bête avec Jean Marais! c'est super bien mixé. bravo. J'adore ce film. Jean Mais est irresistible, même en bête!
Wonderful, wonderful. I love the clips where the Beast is steaming, and when his little ears prick up at the deer! Disney's version is a neutered mockery. What is this music, by the way?
The music is "Marwa Blues" by George Harrison. I edited it just a little to make it loop twice to fit the clips I selected. I have always loved the dream-like quality of this musical composition and it fit the feeling for this film edit. I'm glad you liked my version... be sure to see the uncut film if you can as the images are so way beyond the tame Disney story!
I really hope you get a chance to see this movie! I first saw this in 1966 at a 20th anniversary screening of the film; the images have stayed with me all these years. An awesome, wonderful visual treat not to be missed!!!!
I've checked out several other versions of YouTube submissions of this since my last comment. Yours is thefinest that I've seen. The music selection and judicious editing reflects the artist magic of the film. I will have to save my pennies and order the original.
I actually had to leave out so many beautiful, breathtaking scenes with the lighting done in imitation of a Jan Vemeer painting and all the costumes created in the style of Gustave Doré illustrations. In this edit, I was just trying to show the most basic plot while allowing YouTubers to see the beauty of this film. Hope you get to see this one! It's been on my top 10 list since 1966 when I first saw it at a film festival. (Note: Netflix carries this title in case you are a member.)

i do like there being no words present in the music with this imagery and i do agree that Marwa Blues matches it quite beautifully
i just find that after so long it gets a little bit old
just my own opinion thats all

It is such a pleasure to watch this splendor!
Very good cut and beautyful music...
I'm sure Cocteau would love to watch this, and i also think about Jean Marais who was a great actor.
Who could bring back this purity in directing and shooting?
