Cult member here too! I saw them several times and they were fantastic everytime. One of the best was in a high school gymnasium in Cobourg, Ontario ,,, the mutli-drum thing was excellent. Saw them at the Hendrix/Soft Machine concert at the Exhibition grounds as well. A few later Adam Mitchell played solo at a coffee house setting at Trent University in Peterborough. After that concert, we had a great chat with him - very nice fellow.
Thanks George for posting this. I was aware of Lighthouse, the other band Skip Prokop was in, but never heard this excellent band til now. By the way -- who's the vocalist?
@pault0bin I hope you never wander from the path of self righteousness. But if you do, too fuggin' bad for you too. Still, I love you for caring enough to say something bad about Gerrard. I'm sure he feels the same, like Jesus would. Not!
@bighairbandgirl my number is two. Message me honeychile and hurry the fuck up about it you spammin' mama beotch bass turd, Motherfather sweetie, dear. Or, how do you say that in Canadian?
One hell of a band. Im not sure where my father got Ellis Island but he passed it on to me and I was hooked. I Wore that LP down as well. I was lucky enough to find that same LP and Magic People in mint condition in Austin, Texas. Interesting how I was a kid in the 80's and I still got turned on to a band that did not get the credit they were due. Spyderman1951, "another mans hair on my razor", excellent song. My favorite jam though has to be "Yes I Know". Heart and soul in that song.
I have been drinking in a bar in downtown Denton TX with Adam Mitchell on two occasions now. I was dubious about his past but after doing the research i am more convinced than skeptical. Interesting guy. But still a liberal at heart I am afraid...Guess the 60's never die...
the paupers played our high school winter festival in pointe claire quebec in 1968(i think....gimme a break, i'm old now ).....check it out ...the only song i remember was "another man's hair on my razor" ...a PURE country song that i can't find but they did it kinda country joe and the fish style and 40 yrs later , i still remember most of the words ....that's freaking scary....!!
Off the top of my head: "I was rolling my rig down along the highway, Thinking of my wife and kids at home. Thinking everything was going my way, But as I rolled along I didn't know....There was another man's hair on my razor, Another's face where my face ought to be. Oh my darling had him stay, Thinking I was far away, But the last stroke of the razor fell to me."
Pacemaker released CDs last summer; also available at EMI Canada. Each has bonus tracks, A-sides and B-sides. There are two 2-cds-in-1 collections, both odd. "Dig Deep" has all of "Magic People" but drops two tracks from "Ellis Island," adding three non-album singles. "Hits From the Yorkville District" does the same, different track order. I would get the Pacemaker CDs - their "Ellis Island" is complete, also has those three single tracks. Their "Magic People" adds two different bonus B-sides.
OMG I never even thought to search for this band. My very favourite band when I was hangin' around Yorkville in the 60's!!!!!! This vids not so hot but boy are those pics ever bringing back memories.
BLEW Jefferson Airplane off stage in Greenwich Village...only to have the CREAM blow them off the same stage. Big break would have been Monterey Pop Festival...but the bass player was on LSD and their set mever made the movie.

@wturkey76209 You are a lucky guy. Denton sucks but Adam is still cool. Liberal is the future right wing teabagger.

The paupers were great and I especially like Adam Mitchell. Do you know if anyone has his single Fool For Love? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Great band, esp. their first LP. But this isn't 70's psych., it's 60's psyche! Nice pix-

Count me in the cult of The Paupers. I've got several copies of Magic People and Ellis Island. A vastly overlooked band.
