  • I have recently been struggling with this aspect of Christianity that I see - an emptying of the value of this life in anticipation for the next. I am so thankful that God is a God of the past, the future, and the present, and that there are so much adventures Jesus wants to take us on which begin now, right where we are.

  • you need to unburlap before you plant. the root ball will grow round and round and then when the wind and storms come the tree will fall over. i know there's a proverb in there somewhere; unburlap your root ball and watch the roots grow deep and wide. Jesus is Lord!

  • Loads of people give Rob Bell a hard time, and maybe it is healthy not to trust anyone and evrything, but, although I'm only 14, I reckon it's not wrong for him to get people thinking, and preach what he believes. I think God sends everyone for a reason and everyone can learn from eachother, even if some people get the wrong ideas.

  • If you know it is healthy not to trust anyone and everything, then you can readily lend yourself to other's ideas, which I think is healthy.

  • pastormike7: respond thoughtfully to people's questions. don't toss a random scripture verse out there as if it's self-explanatory and then hide behind snide comments that have nothing to do with your point. do our intellect and your own a favor.

  • Religious people are often guilty or everything aren't they, Rob? Rob, is there any way I can get you to not try lifting moderately heavy things while you're trying to talk?

  • first off jesus taught us to love each other not diss and hate on each other.. second the christ faith is about having a live and healthy relationship with God not hoping and waiting to die or for Him to come back, yes i personally cant wait for our Lord to come back but thats not what faith is all about

  • "hoping and waiting?" This is Rob's question. Here is Peter's answer:

1 Peter 1:13 . . . fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

So, um, like, as I plant this tree, can I, uh, say to you, uh, Rob, that yes --um, yes, hoping . . . and waiting . . . is what faith is all -um- about.

  • I don't think faith is all about hoping and waiting!

  • @FunnessOfOneness its about believing and living :)

  • @pastormike7

what was the point of all that?

  • Rob has caught a lot of grief for silly things. He usually just challenges people to think a bit. By asking questions, it is assumed he is speaking against Church doctrine and it's usually not the case.

  • Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?"

Challenge you to think a bit? Like the serpent did?

  • And God is rolling his eyes at you.... get over yourself. Seriously....

  • Godly intentions are controlled by the spirit

    not of mans doing

  • mathew 24 and 25 speak of working for God till hre returns ill let you read it for yourselvs

but i wouldnt play the waiting game

  • I like how he questions Christianity or at least the beliefs held by many Christians - that life here is just a wait. But probably what he fails to see is that we're not just hanging around screwing around; we're actually preparing ourselves for the second coming of Christ. And it is unfortunate that he does not see that God is existent in our lives today. Perhaps there's not enough "real" Christians around. I don't know, what do you think?

  • tell me how? instead of just saying u're wrong. geez.

  • good luck there i ve been trying to get an answer for three days from some of these yahoos

jeez if your going to say something back it up! bell haters this means you!!

  • bell haters?

  • i think that ther are alot of "parots" who go around squaking because thats what someone said he said and when you ask them why? they just spout out 2 tim or he preaches false hoods or he dosent condem sinners,or he dosent speak about hell! neither did jesu or the desciples than they gointo Angry God mode ohh God is angry!!! he is going to smite you with a plauge if you dont repent sinner. i was told i was going to hell by a bull horner. the gospel is grace! not of anger botom line!

  • I mean ok every one has an opinion right?pov.

I am saying that you should see with your own eyes and your own understanding of the true gospel

once you are born again you are prepared for the second coming ,we are not supposed to be playing the waiting game we are supposed to be shareing the compassion of Christ so I havent actualy seen this video but ive seen a couple of others I dont see what the big deal is other than hes not screaming damnation at people and again all i get is 2 tim pst

  • oh ok i sort of get what u're trying to say. Yeah I suppose the threat method isn't Christian. God forgive them. But anyway it's the intentions that matter to God, and I'm NOT excluding the effects done to others by these "parrots" but nonetheless, if their intentions be right, God would guide them. But I agree with u, the message is still yet of grace.

  • yeah but the road to hell is paved with good intentions!

the pharisses had good intentions they were defending there faith but they made their point . not well i know three scriptures

the problem is the word is a two edged sword right well people are trying to amputate when only a incesion is needed!Jesus told the desciples that people would think they were doing god a favor by killing them

the heart is often misguided by their dogmatic concense

  • I'm not even talking about GOOD intentions. It's about godly intentions. as in wanting to do what u think God wants u to do - a form of submission to God. The pharisees had a different view and held other things more important like keeping traditions rather that God's will. The pharisees if you know anything about them, did not have good intentions. They were full of themselves and of self-praise. they only cared what was on the outside

  • and most churches dont now?

belive me I know the pharisees. they were made there own traditions to score brownie points with God , I mean there is right and wrong do we need to be overly offensive ?

no if i get up and start screaming sinner sinner at someone and they reject God because i did not show grace and they die in their sin good intentions or not there blood is on my hands because i did not do the right thing

  • seriously this world has burdens of its own that neither u nor not i need to carry. We just need to trust and follow wherever God should lead us. Which is by far the hardest thing about being a Christian. Trust in God's strength and not ur own. God uses all the bad and good things for His glory. But I ask that u don't judge those who do not show grace; it is not ur place nor mine.

  • Im not judgeing anyone we are allowed to bring correction to those in the wrong

now if you accuse a bretheren falsely is a sin !!

im just saying if you post you should know what your talking about

    kinda dont touch my anointed""

    deal

we should be carfull what we say and what we do and should answer a question with a answer of truth

  • but to bring correction u must first judge. judging is the only way to discern from right and wrong. saying that they are wrong is that not judging? or is my mouth full of shit? I do know what I'm saying; but ur point hardly seems defined to me besides the fact that u're saying ppl should not condemn those who don't believe. I agree with that. I don't even know wht u're trying to prove. could u pls point tht out. what are you debating with me over?

  • what im saying is for those who dont know grace

and correction for those who do

  • Now that makes sense, why didn't u say that in the first place instead of throwing random arguments and ambiguous sentences at me?!

  • sorry "parrots" rubbing off on me !

they only understand long extended aanswers

    sorry 8)

  • For the most part, it seems to me that the same people who call Rob Bell a heretic also seem to lack basic comprehension of speech and emphasis. For instance, when he says the "Trinity" is not in the Bible, he's absolutely correct. The Bible does not say anything about the trinity, yet it is still Biblical!Rob made it clear (though this is not the whole video) that an ordinary listener to that radio station would no want to wait or hope for a Jesus to come back *someday*,they need t feel Him now

  • For sure, man. Everyone has this weird questioning about Rob Bell's beliefs about the Trinity. A direct quote from last Sunday by Rob: 'If the Trinity was not taught and explained to you in a way that makes your soul soar...in a way that you just went "wow, that is the best idea ever", then you have been robbed. Trinitarian thinking will transform the way you see everything.'

People are so quick to judge.

  • By the way I didn't mean that there is no hope while on earth; There is a glorious hope in Jesus Christ. I am only disagreeing with Rob putting down the wait and hope doctrine.

  • Believers are not offered immunity from pain, suffering and death yet.

ROM 8:22 For we know that the whole creation(believers and non-believers)groans and travails in pain together until now (present time.

HEB 6:11 ..that every one of you do show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end. Rev 21:4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.

  • God does encourage us during our walk of faith until second coming. But suffering and death still prevail until second coming. The blessings that accompany second coming makes us earnestly love its hastening. 'Wait and Hope' is a sound doctrine of perseverance of saints.

  • HEB 13:14 For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.

    Paul calls believers aliens/pilgrims/strangers.

We are never encouraged to feel at home on earth.

HEB 11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

HEB 11:16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

  • I like some of the nooma videos but can't completely agree to what he is trying to say here. Guess have to see the complete video.

Say-How can we apply this teaching to say a man who is born blind?

Rev 21:4 is important foundation to christian walk and perseverance. I can't see what the radio preacher was teaching wrongly about. Also, interesting Rob labels them as religous speakers; wonder what he really means in comparison to his own calling.

  • feanor, i dont think hes questioning gods instructions. hes questioning the message of many christians. he was talking about the guy he heard on the radio and how so many christians fall into that. hes not questioning god. look no further dumbass

  • Religion and God are not the same. Religion is what man made to try to follow Christ. You can do anything religiously. But, to walk as Christ did while He was on this earth, is to be called a true Christian. A real follower of Christ. Many blessings to you my friend.

  • God wakes me up every day and by my studying His Word everyday I am able to understand what my purpose is. The Bible is a manual on how to live. You have to water that little seed that is in most humans hearts. Study His Word, the Bible. May our God continue to bless you with your life.

  • ^^ I still think the fun-fact is the best bit. Guerilla planting of trees, shown here, is illegal and can result in heavy fines. xD

  • Rob Bell is a very intelligent man, he so cleverly uses sophistry to twist the scriptures into eastern philosophy.

  • Feanor,

Did you watch the whole video or just this 2:22 clip? It's pretty good. But even in this clip the basic message is that as Christians we shouldn't be so heavenly conscious that we are no earthly good.

  • i need, i want, what can God do for me right NOW?

God has given us commands and instructions on how to live in this life. its in scripture. look no further Rob.
