Can a Mantis actually kill a humming birds if it got in a whack at it? I know hummingbirds are small and the Mantises eat lizards, but still seems like a big size difference...
@drago884 Yes. There is a video here on youtube called "Praying mantis vs hummingbird". Although it's not much of a "vs", it just shows the mantis eating the hummingbird that it had already caught.
i was hesitant to watch this and thought for sure it would leave me sad. glad it didn't. however, you should have killed the intruder. why put up a hummingbird feeder to feed the birds and then let a creepy insect stalk them? i have a hummingbird feeder on my balcony for my cats to enjoy... with a closed sliding screen door and a closed sliding glass door between the feedder and the cats. the cats get excited to see them and meow when they see them but they can't harm them.
that's true, the title was NOT misleading, but still I'm kinda disappointed, I was expecting to see some huntin' & killin' & feastin', and bird is not PM's everyday prey, which would make it even more interesting
(I'm heartless because I'm fascinated by nature? so be it, at least I'm honest)
though it was kinda funny & cute, with the Flight of Bumblebee in background and all
Damn. One of these was living on my back porch for the last few days. Alot of humming birds are around too, so after I saw this I went out and killed the Praying Mantis. Human intervention, bitches!
Those were lucky hummingbirds!!! A Mantis of that size could easily catch one and kill it. I've seen mantids eating hummingbirds, snakes and even mice!
There was a praying mantis in my bathroom window a little while ago and when I leaned in for a closer look it turned it's head and looked me right in the eye! Freaked me right out! I'd be quite happy if they went extinct, they're too smart.
ahhh I wish he would have caught it. I love how the mantis mimics branches blowing in the wind as it move towards the humming bird. Fascinating stuff.
wow! thumbs up if you didnt even notice that mantis and had to fast forward because you didnt wanna waste your time.. than realized it was RIGHT there the WHOLE time!!! crazy!!!
The birds like, you ain't getting me, you ain't getting, comin' closer now, you still ain't getting me and then................BOOM nothing happened lol
i like how at 1:21 the humming bird looks at the mantis then back at the flower and is like ''you would like me to land there would'nt ya''.....bye bye
Mantis looks like it's pretending to be a statue. LOL XD
Hummingbird looked like it was freaking out when it saw the mantis move. It was like, "Um did that statue just move?" o_O? "No biggie, I'll just move over the next feeder opening."
Mantis slowly creeps up on him.
Hummingbird: "Yikes! You're no statue, you're a preditor! I'm out of here!"
omg thats so cool but creepy lol
