  • Good, but the bridge is more slap bass,

  • Hope you will go far doing what you love.

    Good luck! (smiley)

  • Well played!

  • You like Steely Dan! I cannot say how awesome this is. :)

  • Nicely done! But I'd turn down the tone knob a bit, play the neck pickup alone and pick over the neck pickup for a warmer tone. But I enjoyed your playing!

  • Great Playing. Is your Mother one of the Clearys from Kiltimagh by any chance?

  • Who is this awesome girl playing bassl

  • playing the higher notes across the fingerboard would inspire you.

  • I know you posted this over a year ago, but I hope you don't mind being complemented anyways. Encore!

  • BassGirl is really B(ad)ass-Girl. And I love the swagger @ 2:37!

  • That was pretty slick...

  • I really like this but as MJ would say you took out the jelly on the chorus.

The slapping part on the record just makes the chorus that much tasty.

    Otherwise, good job :)

  • U got skill!!!

  • you KNOW good music, that's all i can say as a bass musician myself. awesome

  • I've been drumming for over ten years and trying to learn bass now. I love this song on drums and I can't wait to learn it on bass.

  • Dang Girlie, Go and get a job playing BASS!! Oh, wait a minute.......this may be the vehicle to get that job!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You are a true bad ass. Literally spot on Chuck Rainey and also one of if not my most favorite Steely Dan!!

  • wow you really got the rythm amazing girl in all ways!

  • Nice job!!!!

  • Amazing!! Thanks!

  • Way better than I could do....

  • Great job BG but why aern't you "smilin' for the camera"?? LOL

Peg is an awesome song period especially for a base player I would also recommend these tunes:

Goodnight Tonight & Silly Love Songs by McCartney & Wings

Miss You by The Rolling Stones

For The Love of Money by the O'Jays

And the Beat Goes On by The Whispers

Do Ya Think I'm Sexy? by Rod Stewart

They have some of the funkiest baselines ever recorded

    Cheers!!

  • to play peg and play it well takes an immense amount of talent and you have it at such a young age. very nicely done!

  • Damn, already this good at 14. You're already ahead of 90% of the bass players in major bands today. No joke.

  • Hi GF... i never coment on these kinda things. I'm an old fart (50) and just a nobody X bass player that used to play for Buddy miles as well as a crap load of other nobody bands and just wanted to say you are on the right track big time...work on your tone and dynamics and you will go far i think. I hope this didn't offend you in any way...just sayin'...you have 3/4 of the battle down and hope to be buying something you're playing on in the future.

  • good ear, it sounds like you got all the right notes that Chuck plays on the album - that flat six chord is tough, a lot of players tend to go for the flat seven instead when they hear that, which of course sounds incredibly dissonant. I would recommend you re-evaluate your left hand technique though - it's making you move more than you have to, which could cause injury. keep shedding wood.

  • not bad... now if you could do Natural Science...

  • Brilliant job... Love that jazz bass :D

Mind checking out my channel?? I've uploaded a video of this just yesterday :P

  • Going places.

  • Tear it up!! Dope bass line and cover...

  • You can play, girl. Great job!

  • Cutest bass player I've seen in ages... great job :)

  • the dan!

  • You actually played it the way Chuck wanted it played. "No slapping". The poor guy has had a stroke, lets hope he can get back on his feet. Say a prayer for him.

  • Great job!

Your facial expression at 2:11 says it all! Way to dig into that groove girl!

  • Great job!

  • WOW!!!!!!

  • Excellent!!! Loved it, keep it up!

  • excellent job.

  • That's incredibly sweet and cool!

  • you rock!!!!

  • Bass Girl,

Bravo, wow...you nailed it. I bought Steely Dan's Aja album when I was 14 years old and I still love all those songs - Peg, Deacon Blues, Josie...You are an awesome talent!

  • Excellent! Very enjoyable, good luck to you.

  • wooo steely dan :D

  • Sweeeeeeet!

    You're hired...

  • That was awesome.

  • you're a star :)

  • You kind of remind me of that bass player that plays with Jeff Beck.

  • excelent marvelous

  • wow!...fifth fingers up

  • Excellent. Nice going

  • Great!

  • Well done BassGirl!

  • id love to play bass with you, for i am a great drummer.

  • very good bass

  • Super bass!

  • Good technique! When people commence the journey for perfect tone they become overly concerned, about the bass, the pickups, the electronics, the strings... you get the point. Most people NEVER realize they've hadded all along. Don't tell anyone, it's all in your fingers and knowing where to play, close to the bridge, between the pickups the neck, using the tips or the fleshy part. Experiment a little and once you know what you get from each position you'll develop a feel for when to use what.

  • Niiiiice! :)

  • great stuff !

  • nice!

  • First of all congrats on being a youngster trying to play the bass....keep up the good work! Now if you could just stop playing the bass as if it will hit you back if you beat the crap out of it....hit the damn strings!!!!! use your thumb on the downstrokes.....hit it as hard as you can!!!! kick that bass' ass! Don't coddle the bass....use it. Learning music by tabs isn't where it's at....learnin' by ear is what matters.......builds character and mental strength........38yrs of gigs, r o n

  • listen to flea, robert trujillo and billy sheehan. those are the best rock/funk guys i've seen play live. nice rack!

  • Wow, I am so embarrassed! I don't play it that well and I am 47!

  • Very good girl. I like your playing, keep going. Dimitris (Cyprus)

  • Good job and great taste in music - from a fellow bass player (I play electric and standup) in Seattle

  • i have those same curtains

  • From one bass player to another.... that was sick! Very well done. I'm gonna have to take a crack at this song... I can't play slap to save my life, and this song always sounded intimidating when I listened to the bass line... but now I'm motivated to learn it :) Great job!

I've been listening to Steely Dan for almost 40 years...my all time favorite band and it's great to see someone like you (younger generation & female) have an interest in something other than guitar hero...Keep it up, I want to see you on the cover of some jazz/rock cd in the near future!!

  • Great job! It's so refreshing to see someone your age playing and appreciating classics like this. It gives me hope that all is not lost . And yes, loved that big well deserved smile at the end! Keep practicing. You have talent!

  • There's no need to be jumping all over the neck at some of the parts. Don't be afraid to attack the higher strings on the quick pitch changes :0

  • @analyzingfunny ... no argument here

  • Great playing! I think it's awesome that you dig the Dan. Don't be like me and keep working on your sight reading.

  • Oh, geez...keep it up. My favorite song, and to hear you play this is just great. Made my day.

  • Nice! It's great to see a young person playing this classic.

  • nice and smooth : ]

  • One of the greatest songs... good job! If I could only play it on the banjo, i'd be set.

  • Wow great playing! Seriously.

  • Go!! So good!! Great playing and your having so much fun. Great bass attitude. Keep it up! Listen to all that Donald Fagen has written. Its great stuff to play bass to. Best to you and your dreams!p x

  • Great playing! One thing that is a dead giveaway of younger players is that they have trouble muting and cause excess string noise. You don't have that problem at all, you sound very fluid and natural. Keep it up!

  • Very impressive and inspiring. I love your smile at the very end, you obviously really enjoyed playing the tune.

  • you have a really nice touch, great ear, sense of rhythm, and excellent taste in music to boot.

  • ummm that was awesome and you are my daughters age. Amazing.

  • Awesome stuff! Saw your Tal video on No Treble so watched some videos. Excellent feel/timing. You've got the funk! :)

  • nice job! you should learn kid charlemagne next. It will open more doors to your playing. Enjoy!

  • Very well done , keep at it all the best

  • Awesome. It's great to see you enjoying what really is classic SD and doing it well. Congrats. I've been in love with this music for over 30 years and I get a buzz to see it played like this. I might be wrong (I was wrong once) but I've never heard a cover of SD done on radio etc. Hard for a band to put t.heir own stamp on such genius stuff. You'd have to be brave. Do you get to use your bass in some kind of band/group or whatever or are you doing it just for the enjoyment of playing?

  • Bravo ! just superb.

  • That was fantastic. Great timing, tone, and feel.

Did you learn this by ear?

    Interesting fact:

Steely Dan didn't want Chuck to slap on this song, but he snuck it in and did it anyway (at the chorus). I image you'll master slapping soon enough. I was never really into it but can do it ok now.

But please, don't waste your time with tapping.

  • @GaryNull Thanks haha! I didn't learn this by ear because my teacher already happened to know it!

  • @BassGirl5809 excelente interpretación de Peg...gracias por tu regalo

  • @GaryNull why no tabs?

  • @GaryNull No tapping? Why? It's another level entirely above in compositional scope above slap.

  • If you are interested in Slapping, consider a bass with smaller scale neck with 2 full octaves such as the Ibanez EB 300, which I use. Also go with the lightest gauge strings you can, I prefer .90 but am using .95 at the moment. Get the action as low as you can and adjust the intonation at the bridge, using a tuner to check the accuracy of both fretted notes and harmonics at the 5th, 7th, 12th, 17th, 19th and 24th frets.

Have at it and good luck.

  • Well done, are you working on learning any slap bass techniques? Great to see a 13 year old taking on one of the all time great grooves of the 70's. Keep it up, you've got a real gift.

  • @gearguitarguy thanks so much! i've been trying to attempt slap... but i'm not the best at it haha! hopefully with some more practice I will get a little better...... :)

  • @BassGirl5809 practice, practice, practice and never give up.

  • I like that, God Bless you and all musician, w talent, waoo! do it every day i,m steel do im playing for Proxy-Connection: keep-alive

Cache-Control: max-age=0 year, and you going to be a great Bass%2

  • Make sure you make it in a band girl. And I'm sure you're ready for some bigger amp. That will give you some more response and them fingers will then choose different positions by itself... You know the bass girl.

  • BassGirl, I avoid giving much in the way of advice when not asked. I first want to say I like your playing, and this song takes me back to 1979. Don't let that scare you since I 've been hacking away at the bass for over 32 years. I noticed your finger rest on the right hand is toward the back bridge pick-up. This position will give a thin, treble sound versus the meat at the neck pick-up. Some songs call for that sound, and others require the deep grawl forward. I am impressed at 13 and 9 mos.

  • @Kudgebass hey thanks so much for taking the time to check out my videos! I always appreciate the feedback/advice!

  • @BassGirl5809 You are so welcome. Keep the passion, it is refreshing.

  • @BassGirl5809 like I was saying, i suggest you to study scales and chords (arpeggios) paying atention to your right hand. On the E string you damp the thumb on the pickup. when you go to A string, move your thumb to E string. when you play the D and G strings, keep your thumb on A string, muting the E and A strings. 10 minutes of this per day and you see you will clean your sound significantly in one or two months.

give it a try! you have the groove! :^D

  • @ManelRuivo Thanks for the advice! It's funny that you mentioned moving my right hand to the strings because someone actually just taught me how to do that this week! I'm going to work on that :)

  • @Kudgebass that resting position is what i was going to say about with her, but since u sayed first... sorry but I have o disagree.

One of the majors roles of the right hand (pickin hand) is to supress, to mute the string that are not being played. That way you can achieve much faster a clean, strong and precise sound. althrough many oldschool bassplayer damp the right hand above the pickup, its much harder to achieve the clean sound (like jaco for example).

  • im from mexico =D oye chica tocas muy bien =D tu bajo es como el de tal wilkenfeld verdad? eres = de bonita que ella =D

  • You are fabulous!! Hook up with Tal Wilkenfeld.
