@zyzzyx222 ; If you check out Julius Caeser The conquest of Gaul , Gaul is France . Germania ( Germany ) was never really fully conquered by Rome . The Belgae ( the red ones ) lived in what is now Belgium . The Helvetia lived in what is now Switzerland.

Of course Caeser having the wrote the book himself is a bit one sided , praising himself and being very even handed with the various tribes when ever they had a problem with a next door tribe , it is a very good read ( yes a book ) .

This explains the glory Caesar had by conquering them, because Romans never forget, and they hated the enemy who burnt down their city since then to 50 BC when Caesar made his wars. So technically he was correct, but no other attack on Rome have been done by the Gauls to my knowledge. (I study in history)

Gaulish is the language that was spoken by the french area celts which would include the helvetians, now known as the swiss.
