  • Cool cop.

  • you found one that can read good for you

  • Chinese people who have lived here a long time think they had better speech in their country.

  • Protesting? Come on. But what the signature gatherer did was allow the officer to feel he had his say, defined the situation(even if it was wrong) so he could feel he is being generous in his grace and have the chance to admit twice he wasn't being a prick.

"Y'all hang tight," as he leaves. This indicates that the officer still can feel like he has control and jurisdiction. And he got to ask the questions - "You are students here, right? etc."

Good ending. Wish it were more common.

  • Good cop.

  • 1:45 the officer describes the incident as "protesting." Get real, he is just gathering signatures, a constitutional RIGHT. The officer acted politley, but does not know the law he is SWORN to uphold, and it makes me wonder how he would have really acted had a camera not been involved.

  • SOME COPS ARE SO FULL OF SHIT, FUCKEN LIARS

  • Now that's how a police officer should act. Are the rest of the police watching?

  • "Y'all are within the free speech area".........WTF?

  • Campus public safety is generally allot more tolerant in an academic atmosphere. And students have a right to petition on campus.

  • I wish ALL cops had this type of civility and sense.

  • This should be called "Fat ass wanabe bike cop get owned by lawful students" Fuck these gate keepers and fuck the gates they keep. By the way nice fucking bike helmet.

  • @joecoool100 The cop didn't look fat at all, asshole. Since you just want to make up titles, maybe we should call you "Fucking cunt that needs to add 'cool' to his user name to make himself feel important".

  • @MrGodTheFather This comment is coming from a person called "MrGod"...ok but one look at your YouTube page will tell everyone what they need to know about you.....another 27 year old Tweener punk loudmouth, living in moms basment, with no job or a part-time job at Pizza-Hut (same thing really). Yea maybe if look past the love handles above his gun belt and his double chin under the straps..shit he looks just like Lance Amrstrong! Up your ass you millennium baby...your xbox is calling you.

  • @joecoool100 The ways in which you're fucking stupid amazes me. First of all, 27-years-old isn't a "Tweener". That refers to preadolescence. Secondly, I work as a studio engineer, but good try belittling my profession. Thirdly, the cops isn't fat, no matter what you say. Fourthly, I'm not a "millennium baby". I was born in 1984. You sure as shit don't know your ages, do you? Math is hard, eh? Lastly, I do like Xbox, so you got me there. Now piss off, cunt.

  • @MrGodTheFather Listen Jr. Here's some math for you, when I was starting my first year of college you were still in elementry school eating your own Boogers! Studio Engineer is just another made-up job..like "Web Master" there are no studios anymore. Jesus why didnt you just tell me you are an Amish Electrician...it sounds more real. Like I said get back on Mom couch, and grab a Hot Pocket because World of Warcraft is calling...honestly you 20somethings are really a shit-stain on the world.

  • @joecoool100 Okay, you win. I'm educated and well-spoken, so it's very hard for someone like myself to argue with crazy people. You just make things up, which makes it impossible to carry on a conversation. You said, "there are no studios anymore". That's so completely false that I can't even begin to argue with you. You might as well have said, "Cars don't exist!". There's no way to argue with what you said because it's just pure plain logic and fact that studios DO exist.

  • @joecoool100 I can't begin to imagine what college accepted you into their fold. I guess there are plenty of colleges that don't have requirements for entry, except that you pay them money. You're so willing to try and belittle someone with assumptions. You know nothing of me, yet you have this scenario in your head of how my life must be. Yet, all that I've made fun of your for is how stupid you are, which I can prove with your mathematical and grammatical errors.

  • The university requires students to "file information" such as who they are, that they were in the designated free speech area, and WHAT THEY WERE PROTESTING ABOUT? Is this a joke? lol.

  • @ThePCo, are you that stupid. Did your mom drop you on your head when you were little. The cop was only doing his job and he even bothered to look at the paper and went to ask if they could do that in this area. Good cop. A bad cop would have just told them to leave and would not even care what kind of paper pamphlet he had in his hand. Also, the bad cop would just detain them.

  • That was not a cop.

  • look up imbatman57 in youtube & talkshoe.com... peace and blessings from england

  • The cop is acting like he knows what he's talking about

  • @sky4you2b he don't know what he's talking about like almost all cops they are fucking idiots trying to be smart. if you were smart you wouldn't be a cop.

  • @ThePCo You are an ass. This cop/campus police officer made no attempt to bully, intimidate or otherwise abuse these folks in any manner. He approached professionally, asked questions, listened to their side and agreed to get clarification before taking ANY action against them. He handled that interaction about as well as any of us could have expected. Were you disappointed that he didn't mace, taze or nightstick them silly before hauling them off to jail? Jeez, Louise!

  • @ThePCo your an idiot

  • Two people, a civilian and a law enforcement officer, having a disagreement and resolving it with civility and exchange of knowledge .... How did this ever make it onto YouTube ?? :)

    Well Done.

  • ummm for one you couldent smell the bacon, two respect ~-e

  • Unions are crap!

  • coolest cop ever.

  • god i love this cop (no homo) wish i meet cops like this lol

  • FUCK THA POLICE! Except this one, this time... I guess.

  • Wow, it's too bad there's no way to petition for this cop to get a commendation. He was polite, unintimidating, respectful and actually obeyed the law (though, any restriction on free speech is unconstitutional... but at least he followed local law). If more police acted this way, people would adore them.

  • ....id be a prick too if i wore the shit out of that helmet too

  • remember the good old days when the whole damn country was a free speech zone

  • lmao good cop..he knows he'll get jumped lol

  • fuck the coppers

  • cop getting angry and ready to shoot anyone!!!

  • Yes, You need a permit to exercise freedom of speech. So get that permit, peons. Wait, FAIL. The constitution says no such thing.

  • Very mature group of people! Don't know what they were soliciting, but I applaud their civility and professionalism!

  • It all right to have free speech.Except you can only extercised it under there terms. We all need to start laughing, about the sillyness of it all..

  • Free speech area = bullshit.

  • Don't taze me dude!

  • WHAT!! HE DIDNT PEPPER SPRAY YOU????????

  • LOVE THAT COP!

  • Seriously, the fact that a cop even bothered to take the time to read and hear the guy's case is a HUGE step in the right direction! Well done, this cop is decent.

  • @funfella19 Especially the fact that he decided to chase this up. Very professional.

  • This is a model for how every police encounter should go. Everyone is level headed. Cop was great, citizens were great!

  • If he's your barometer for a "nice cop" I'd hate to see what a bad policeman to you is

  • VOTE YES ON ISSUE #2 in OHIO!!!!!!

UNIONS WORK FOR THOSE THAT DONT!!!!!!!!!

  • All in all the cop was very courties, took the time to read their information and did not impose "his" will. My hat goes off to both the cop here and the people involved as they were not rude at all.

  • Why would anyone want to become a cop nowadays? Mind boggling

  • @elitedefense72 I don't know but aren't you happy they are there when you need them?

  • @viruslived I consider my safety my own personal issue, not the police. The courts agree with my statement.

The police are historians - they show up after the crime and take notes and maybe make an arrest.

They almost never show up when you actually need help. The only exceptions are when they stumble into a crime in progress.

Again, I'll take responsibility for my own safety.

  • @Rayven10 You don't have a clue. According to what you're saying, you think a true police force would instantly appear when a crime happens... like a genie. I don't think you are aware of the lack of police officers out there. You would be surprised how many police officers work for free, as community service. All-in-all, you'd lose your ego quick without LE. So which court endorses your statements? Just curious.

  • @viruslived Which courts? The Supreme Court, which opined that police are not there for the safety of any individual. In other words, they are not required to act if it puts them in danger.

I never said a true police force would instantly appear - I said that they are virtually useless during a real emergency. My protection is my responsibility.

I wouldn't "lose my ego" without LE, but I'd certainly be more cautious. I can take care of myself, and I have.

  • @elitedefense72 /watch?v=HI64HjwhRAo that's why !

  • That's an interesting argument because if it is private property then obviously the cop is right but if it's state than it dips into the grey area.

  • @SmokeyCough No. the cop is just wrong! They are all loser pricks.

  • that's a real police officer there. actually used his brain and read. then negotiated a fair solution.

  • POLICE BRUTALITY I TELL YOU!!!

  • you assume he knows how to read. Just a little joke, all and all the peace officer conducted himself nicely.

  • This guy was actually really nice, He was accepting to information, and when he became unclear he didn't press further and admitted he wasn't sure. I praise this guy and wish their were more like him.

  • He is a UNT Campus Police Officer

  • If it's private property, why is a public police officer patrolling it? Does HE have a permit?

  • Free speech area?

  • did he actually just say hang tight?

  • Now that is how you handle the police with documentation and wording to back it up...

  • Freedom of speech is limited by certain restrictions. If you are verbally threating someone of harm you will cause them, or breaking other laws by using 'free speech', such as slander. Additionally advertising is limited in its protection.

e.g. Yelling fire in a crowded movie theather is not protected under freedom of speech.

There is controversy on freedom of speech on private property as it would be trespassing. However there is controversy in venues that are public mediums like malls.

  • you have to be on file .....to use the free speach area....brilliant!

  • There is nothing worse than a bad cop. But, there' s nothing better than a police officer doing their job. Here is the example of a damn good police officer.

  • It's good to see a police officer that works with and explains the law before simply enforcing it. He never lashed out, talked down to, or demeaned the students, only explaining the Campus policy, and even allowing them to remain after seeing evidence that they may be within legal right.

He is, in all respects, a paragon of what a law enforcement officer should be. It's good he was assigned to a university. This current has a horrible view of police, and officers like him could repair that.

  • @EvangeliSmith *this current generation

  • I agree, nice police officer. Why can't they all act this way. He talks to the people like they are people with rights. I hate seeing the police who treat the public like they are animals and can be treated any way depending on how the cop is feeling. I feel threatened every time a cop pulls me over and shines his lights in my car so I can't see him. BE GOOD COPS!!!

  • another dumb citizen taking the fight to the wrong person. if a permit is required and you want to protest it, protest it with the campus policy makers not the police. he dosent make the law.he must enforce law, AND policy, why put him in that position. show your paper to someone who tells him what to do. or contest it in court, and set a legal precedent so that he has somthing to go on. my hat goes off to that officer. he probably deals with dumb kids who think HE is the problem all day long.

  • @SmokeyCough I agree, he handled that well and professionally.

  • Actually correction on Sammie Heren: she said I was FBI to organizers not C.I.A lol. Just thought I'd clarify that since certain people might get technical on that issue and understand ;).

  • I don't know, I hope that Free Speech can work for them, but I can tell you if it was me, I just would freely speech and not worry who was telling me to speech.

Good luck. And I hope the newbies understand the power of democracy and dialogue sharing.

  • My love will always be the experiences I gained start off and building the organization/movement. There were lot's of great people, but an organization cannot work without the love, compassion, and peace of full and open dialogue. Not once did Andrew apologize for his false statements. Nor did Sammie Heren although two people were interview admitting her planting rumors about my standing.

  • But the beauty of the situation was that I knew this was a corrupted organziation, and that the only thing that could be done was to withdraw and let it crumble. It isn't a myth, that many see the organization as a stumbling block to something great. You can just feel it in the messages that people post. And how can you have free speech and dialogue when your own members angered by others opinions lock others out. How can you have free and democracy in this way?

  • And reason I was banned from speaking in meetings is because I called out Sammie Herren who was busted for spreading rumors I was the C.I.A, and I called out Andrew Teeter who on countless occasions spoke of God and how gays were going to hell. Google these things. Even add myspace(dot)com(forwardslash)unitedaid

And to say these things isn't to start "drama". Doing such things get's to the roots of organizations and creates a way for dialogue. The way they handled my situation was wrong.

  • And to the organzers of free speech, the best way to free speech is to publically violate the free speech policy. The more people who civilly break it, the less likely it can be enforced. Just read Gandhi. One doesn't have to be upset with anothers believe on nonviolence or their ability to speak out against something even if it's internal. Internal conflicts always have to be dealt with but this group in their instance corrupted was unable to take the mature step.

  • This very group that denied me free speech. I was the 1 who organized the original peace marches and protests in Denton. I spoke out about false rumors n the organization and several were angered by it because I called them out. As well I was the only Republican Libertarian and as well I believed in peace and legal means.

If this group was to ever hold legitimacy, they would have to apologize for segregating my freedom of speech, despite my dis-agreances of others spreading rumors.

  • I wonder what these "people" did to EARN the rights of free speech.

I'm guessin they were just born and think it's a given. Such a pity...

  • You don't earn free speech. Free speech, the right to bear arms, security in your persons and papers are rights identified in the first ten amendments, but are not subject to being "earned". The Declaration of Independence calls attention to the fact that these rights are endowed by our Creator

Making the argument that we must earn rights is a dangerous one. From whom do we earn them? And doesn't that imply someone else has all the power and rights, only to be doled out on good behavior?

  • @jpschubbs

Oh Hell, that's if you believe in a Creator. But that's a whole other debate and one I've had almost too many times.

Not one individual to dole out freedoms, no, that's not what I'm saying at all. You're missing the pointe. I'm saying do some public service; Military service, government service, serve the public trust in one fashion or another for at least 3 years.

Being a Sci-Fi buff I get to read radical ideas in literature; I would love to see the society depicted in...

  • @jpschubbs

    Starship Troopers.

You didn't earn citizen status and benefits until you served in some manner.

There's no where near enough space in here to explain how the story explains it, but suffice it to say, that would be a society worthy of advance.

Not this hippy crap you seem to follow.

  • @JemmetGK So free speech must be earned somehow?

  • @enolam5000

    Freedom isn't free...

  • If a cop has discretion they can exercise it. They fail to respond all the time to certain areas of town, why not 'fail' to respond to the peaceful hippie talking to people

  • HAHAHAHA

  • At last, a reasonable officer..... wonders will never cease!

  • KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK ON VIDEO TAPING THESE MATTERS AND ALL COMMUNICATIONS WITH THE UNT AND DENTON POLICE!

Officer Cody Howell with the University of North Texas is a liar! He lied in a police narrative report. I have the evidence!

ELI GEMINI FOR THE DENTON CITY COUNCIL IN MAY OF 2011!

    Sincerely,

    Eli Gemini

  • free speech battle? for a union? you think UNT is oppressing you? UNT is by far one of the most liberal universities in Texas and possibly the country. But just like everyone else! and yes this means all of you are not special.. you must be documented through the university just like everyone else, including me, to do what you are doing. Don't broadcast this out to youtube to make it out to be something it's not! P.S. Labor Unions are great when you want the US to lose it's edge on competition.

  • yall hang tight...

  • well... thats guy prolly didnt come back..

    but yeah.. that was fair...

  • Fair play to that cop at least he had undersranding and seemed 'human'

  • What the hell is a "free speech area"? Isn't that "the entire land and law of the United States"?

  • he is cop just doing his job

nothing bad other cops can be pricks

  • I hate unions, loves sticking up for you rights.. good job

  • @bdorrian1 Why do you have a problem with Unions? Alot of them are off the hook these days I agree but, Working 8hr days and benifits are there because of them along with other good things.

  • everybody is entitled to there own opinion, but there is also a fine line, meaning there is a right of freedom of speech, BUT...if your going to cause other people who dont value your opinion to get into a screaming match, then it most likely turns into a riot, thats why they tell you you need to move or stop, so things like that dont happen, you may think there being assholes.

  • Power to the people! Free the slaves!

  • @Fiddich123 but first we have to break the neck of the owners my friend

  • They claim it is the land of the free, it is anything but. George Orwells doublespeake is clearly at work here.

So the land of the free is really the land of the enslaved Robots.

The good news is the Robots are now waking up and engaging in The Robots Rebellion.

Que the music from the Twighlight Zone.

  • Free speech area?! Free speech is now limited?

  • if only all encounters were this cordial and respectful
