Wow! I am shocked to hear this! I lived in Czechoslovakia for more than 4 years and found the Czech people to be a wonderful, intelligent people! How long were you there and what led you to feel this way about the Czechs?

@jubjub2112 I found it generally with landlords but not all of them and certainly in Prague dealing with bar staff or resteraunts people were dishonest .Even in the mac store they were rude and tried to charge me dismissing my guarantee and were insulting, They are equally abominable to eachother.But its not unique perhaps

Well lucky . . . you are the first I have EVER heard this from! I have known many many people who have traveled through and lived in Prague and various other cities in Czech and Slovakia . . . and they all share the same reaction . . . that the people are very friendly and accommodating, intelligent, and etc. I remember how helpful they were when I was teaching myself Czech and how appreciative they were at my effort. Where would you say you like the people? Which country?

lucky . . . I am well aware of the fact that it is now the Czech Republic . . . they split while I was living there. I moved there when it was still Czechoslovakia . . . so my statement that I lived in Czechoslovakia was accurate. I will always think of that country as Czechoslovakia. I have no Idea what you are talking about in relation to poverty . . . in all the years I lived there I never saw poverty. I saw people that weren't rich, but there is a difference.

I am guessing you have very much a westerners eye when you travel . . . if things aren't like they are in the west then that must mean something is wrong. I am only guessing at this, so correct me if I am wrong, but by your posts it seems that way . . . people like this often mistake a different attitude in relation to customer service with rudeness . . . I used to be the same . . . it takes time, and an open mind, to grow out of this.

and with refrence to them being rude .. They are often not only rude but actually will bully or insult you if they think they can get away with it.And they are the same to eachother.Again you are priviliged never to have experienced that.

Recently ive learned to avoid these experiences by taking the same cunt faced attitude with people.

Dyn116 . . . I lived in Prague and in Czechoslovakia from 1991 to 1994 . . . I married a Czech woman . . . I have many friends and family there . . . and so far . . . I can tell you . . . from a fairly broad swath of Czech and Slovak society . . . yes . . . they are much happier there now than they were under the communist regime. Capitalism suits the Czechs and Slovaks and they are doing very well in the midst of this depressed economy. Enjoy capitalism they will!

A (!) change was organised by the communist. But the collapse of an entire system was not the way they planned it. I do agree with you on the oligarchs though. Even Gorbatsjov still wanted a Soviet-Union, even though it would be a more liberal one. But things didn't work out the way the Party planned. People took matters into their own hands, throwing over a complete though weakened system.

Otec je důchodce, který celý život poctivě pracoval, nikomu neublížil. V roce 1988 bral jako strojvůdce ČSD 5000,- (s příplatky za noční, víkendy a občas směny navíc), dnes má důchod 8000. Matka tehdy 2500, dnes necelých 5000. Čili tehdy měli dohromady 7500 plus příplatky na děti, dnes 13000, přičemž ceny jsou neporovnatelné.
