Will be filming again this weekend- have had some trouble with the engine monitor talking to the engine control unit, other things, but have been running at 5000 rpm now- need to keep boost in check- working on that, the turbo is really whining at that engine RPM- look for new post by Sunday 01/24 (fingers crossed)
Wow...very cool engine choice. That thing sounds absolutely amazing! I wanna build a velocity and that might be the way I go now. How much has your build come to so far? Do you have a website with a build log?
Well- I really made a ton of extra work for myself by using the Subaru- in the end, it should be a superior installation to Lycoming, but only time will tell- certainly runs a lot smoother than an IO-540, and burns less fuel, but since it is a one off thing, I will really need to keep an eye on everything for the first hundred hours or so. please see updated video just posted to see it really running smoothly- just installed improved ECU that got it all together.
Sorry for the delay- don't get to the site too often- actually, I am hoping to post another video thiw weekend (01/22) I do not have a builder site- not sure how those guys have time for that- I barely get out to work on the plane!! all in- I probably have about 85k invested- will have about 110 or so by the time it is flying.
does not that prop hit the groud when rotate? because its located behind the main landing gear so when the airplane where about to rotate it will go down (the prop) (my barely english)
Actually, it doesn't hit but the diameter must be limited by design to 78" to give enough clearance during rotation- the prop that you see in the video is for ground testing only- it is 70 inches in diameter and fixed pitch, the flight prop will be controllable pitch- I will have a new engine run video up soon- had to change the ECU on this engine to eliminate the rough running you see.
Nice!, you answered my 2nd questiong that was about the roughness on that engine, what i found strange because i know a lot of subaru engine and thats one of the smoothes, well i hope to see more vids of that ship!
Actually, it was a "fairly" easy mod- had to replace the stock, high compression pistons with low compression, stock legacy turbo pistons, my turbo is high capacity, btu low boost- to allow for full power at high altitude- I am only running about 4 lbs, I have soem other mods on the engine, but they are for aircraft use- It will give me about 350hp at 6000 rpm conservatively...
there is a door track just on the ground in front of the main gear- also I had my body against the front of the wing to keep it from moving too much- and my hand on the throttle at all times- the following test was conducted with the nose against the hanger doors though!
Little Subie Engine! Sounds so beefy, love how it sounds once it really warms up! VROOM VROOM! Good luck to you guys and your build!

is the plane in the air yet ? do you have more videos?
dxd48c 3 years ago
not flying just yet- new video of improved ECU installation is just posted - you can really tell that it is making a lot of power now.

SVX's fly close to the ground but this one flys for real

Nonturbo H6 is also smooth as butter. I never realized that smoothness means less waste and more usable power.

wanna put that motor in my svx im building? :)

I would recommend chocks and perhaps sitting in your vehicle. It rocked forward on you. Looking forward to the first flight video.
