It isn't easy, and that's why America is so unique, if it were easy, every country would be as free and open as we are. As far as rights, either everyone has them, or no one does. Even condemned murderers have *certain* rights, like the right to humane treatment and a quick execution.

All people have rights. Those who are given a fair trial and found guilty beyond reasonable doubt should be punished according to the crime. All others should be assumed innocent, and treated with dignity and respect. That is the basic thrust of our constitution, and I would gladly die to defend it.

The founding fathers disagreed with that sentiment. They believed that all human beings have inalienable rights which governments can neither grant, nor take away. Criminals who have been convicted in fair trails should be punished for their crimes, but we shouldn't punish people for having bad ideas. Democracy is strong enough that we don't need to worry about a few crack pots trying to subvert it. Are we that worried about the KKK, or the Black Panthers?

I didn't say that people have the right to commit terrorist acts, only that people have rights, and we shouldn't punish people until we know that they are guilty. The founding fathers were not perfect, far from it, but that does not mean that the ideas embodied in the constitution are any less valid. Yes, we should stop people from blowing up buildings, but that's different from taking away people's rights and punishing them for having ideas.
