Becker really became old. Edberg still plays every week and is fast on his feet, a big difference between their physis. There are several balls Becker did not follow to the net as he would have done in his active times. However, a real pleasure to see them both play!
Beckers serve is good as in the past but he moves very bad. I suppose they talked before the match and Becker told Edberg please play not so fast. I bought the short from Boris Becker it is a good one.
Schön die beiden auf dem Platz zu sehen, aber ich muss sagen, dass Boris wirklich langsam geworden ist. Ein bisschen mehr Sport würde ihm nicht schaden. ;-)
ITS BOOM BOOM!!! hah borris still 1 of my fav players all time' love watching his old classics' borris here is outta shape compared to the haydays! i blame the poker!! hah. stefan still awesome as usual, looks in gr8 shape too!
Tennis ability is not measured by the number of Grand Slams won. I believe Laver was correct in saying that you can only find the greatest of your generation, because due to different rackets, balls, fitness, competition quality, and other factors, it's virtually impossible to compare two players from different eras.
Honestly; would Federer's game be better than Becker's at the time if you gave him a racket from the 1980's? Probably not. Becker would do relatively better with a modern racket.
the strength of returns. Rackets back then were extremely heavy compared to modern ones, and shots were far more limited.
However, it's very impressive that, even by today's standards, Ivan Lendl had incredible groundstrokes and variety. Sampras and Becker had serves that would STILL dominate modern players (not to the same extent, of course, for the reasons I listed).
Edberg had an incredibly consistent and strong serve with a net game above the average modern singles player's net game.
No one ever said it would have been easy to pass Edberg. I'm saying it would be EASIER. He probably wouldn't have won 6 grand slams with his old racket.
Serve and volley is not dead; I agree with you. I'm a serve and volleyer myself, but you can't argue that new rackets don't change anything. Tennis has adapted only to racket changes in the last few years. People CAN hit (only) from the baseline, so they do.
ya i serve and volley (im 17) in these champs tournaments and ya its tough but i mean its more fun for me XD, ya your right it would probably be tougher, but at the same time dont you think it goes both ways? i mean imagine if suddnely edbergs serve has more kick and his volleys more punch i think it would be interesting to watch, im gonna try ro make it happen bring serve and volley back baby
I do in fact agree with you, Nadal is DEFINITELY not the greatest of all time. But when you dismiss players like Lendl, Becker, Edberg, Sampras, and the other greats as 'slow' and 'weak.'
The fact is, new racket technology (and the slowing of Wimbledon's courts) has drastically changed the way this game is played.
When courts were faster, serve and volley dominated. It was the best style to use due to the power of serves vs
By the way, Laver said Fed isn't the GOAT, that's because if he admitted Fed as GOAT, that would mean he's dismissing himself too. Got that? i am surprised how hypocritical he is, i remember how he said during the bbc interviews after fed won his 15, he commented fed as the greatest, but then he said he could only be the best in his own era in other interviews. He just couldn't make up his old mind.
I figure if nadal fails to win the US open this year, he's gonna play his usual injury card.
edberg becker wilander lendl mcenroe connors would have beaten federer. i wonder if federer played in the 80's would he have had all those slams. lendl played in 19 slam final won 8 lost 11. no way federer would be dominant. federers lucky he had nobody to chalenge him but now theres nadal. nadal owns federer! 13 to 7!
yawn. speaking like a cry baby who wants milk. haven't you see how they played on youtube. they were slow and lacked power. their technique usually was served and volley. boring. fed wouldn't have any trouble if he were to play in the 80s. this is an competitive era, just look at how mang time nadal got his ass kicked before finals. Only a true genius like fed can remain consistent.
fed owns nadal with grand slam win 15 to 6! dumbass. now that means something.
at the same age nadal has won 36 atp titles federer 15. nadal is only 23. nadal is the GOAT! OF THIS GENERATION HE OWNS CRY BABY MIAMI VICE FEDERER 13 TO 7.
Nadal is the GOAT? lol. That's the first. Except for nadal fans, i don't think any sane person on this planet is gonna regard a 6-slam winner be the goat. I have been hard searching for a single legitimate sport article from yahoo, bbc etc websites for hours, still couldn't find an article regarding nadal is one of the greats. On the contrary, i found a number of articles about fed being the subject of a true goat Of course some ends with a question mark, but still, no mentioned nadal.
hey you!! I've been reading your comments and quite honestly; I find absolutely disgusting that you attack all time great player other than federer especiallly sampras. Now I dont care if you think federer is GOAT but I find it laughable that you would put down other great players when your probably just a fatass who cant even pick a racquet. and by the way, edberg and becker should play at the atp tour; they would easily make top 10 even at this age; thats how weak this era is compared to petes
Don't go personal attacks, mechysonu1 because you acting like a street thug. We are talking about tennis players, not fighting to live.
Sampras and Edberg are one-dimensional players. No doubt they conquered their eras, sadly they haven't completed a GRAND SLAM. LOl. Even Edberg has to change his game to suit today's standard though he doesn't play in the tour anymore.
its you who is acting like a street thug thinking that you can put down other great players when you yourself have accomplished jack. edberg and sampras never completed a grandslam; are you bonkers. Your so ridiculous its not even funny. Look at their play and compare the top 10; they would easily have a good chance for those positions in this era; where's your nadal. I've been watching tennis for a while and I know these players capability with which you can't accept but only insult
Go fly a kite or something, mechysonu1. If you got a problem, take an anger management class. You think throwing at personal insutts at someone right and left is gonna prove your points? It only proves you can't construct an argument other than cursing around.
LOL I've been answering you questions with logic and evidence all you've been able to produce is lame shit that edberg and sampras never completed grand slam despite their record. You come on this video; throwing insult on the best players without any evidence whatsoever and when I or anyone disagree I attack with the stupid comments with logic; you get all defensive. Its you who should see counseling or fly a kite for trolling instead of making logical debates. theres more to life than trolling
pete sampras one dimensional; dude your on crack if you seriously believe that. he won 14 grandslam by being one dimensional wtf. do you even know what your talking about; his variety of serves his volley and crazy forehand, his variety of defensive and offensive backhand strokes. yeah very one dimensional. i remember watching a match where agassi kept attack petes backhand (his supposed weakness). you know what happened in that game; pete raped and took the US open that year
LOL you accuse me spouting rubbish when all you can say in a debate is blah blah blah. Trolling must the only thing you do in life LOL. I pity you foo!!
Why Edgerg didn't volley very much? He used to serve and rush volley all the time! His game has changed since his retirement, now he joined the baseline bandwagon.
cause you remember him playing in ridiculous short pants making his legs look longer and cause he is now 20 years older and 20 kilos heavier making him look rounder
Eventhough Edberg has always been my favorite player, u must admit that he moves and plays to slowly plus he has not long enough shots to play against Federer. He and Becker would lose 6/0 6/0 against Federer!
It was just an exhibition. Besides, Fed had won three previous meeting with Sampras, and one of them was in Wimbledon. Fed was being nice to let the legend Sampras win once, coz it would be an embarrassment for sampras. So sampras fans should shut up and be grateful.
Keep playing this nadal card if u want. Tennis is about how many slams can u win, but not how many times can u dominate a player since there are no trophies for that. Besides, Fed has tasted being no.1 and won 15 slams, i doubt both himself and his fans would care about his ranking any more. If he won the US open this year again, trust me, the delusional haters would start making excuse this is a weak era or something. It would be a good idea that he lost. He's got 15, he can relax now.
Federer didn't let Sampras win... I'm not a Sampras fan, but you seem to be an ungrateful Federer fanatic. Neither of them wanted to lose and Sampras won the Macao match outright. You're comment is completely worthless to any non-Federer-fanatic. Even some Federer fans admitted they were sad about Sampras beating him.
He did let him win. Fed just didn't look too intensive throughout the match and he wasn't too disappointed after seeing Sampras managing to save his face for once. it was an exhibition match.what is the point of giving out all of your energy instead of putting on a good show for the audience? After having lost three times in a row, sampras just couldn't stop challenging fed until he proved he can win once. Even i feel a little sorry for his pathetic persistance. Exbitions are not a grand slam.
Sampras wasn't treating it like a match on the ATP tour either. Of course Federer was happy for Sampras, but he didn't seem too happy about losing either. If he's got an excuse for every time he loses on the ATP tour I'm sure he would have let his fans know if it was a present. Maybe you think Sampras' aces and volleys were also pathetic. Federer only won the 2nd match by 2 or 3 points and he didn't even get a break point at Macao. The only pathetic thing here are your comments.
We are not talking about ATP tour, you fool, it was an exhibition match. Besides, If Fed let losses get to him, I doubt he could remain confident and continue to win slams nowadays. Unlike Federer, Sampras just couldn't take no for an answer, he just had to keep challenging Fed until he won once. Fed finally got bored and lost the last time, and he was happy to stop this nonsense.
For Sampras, exhibition matches are his only ways to play Fed, so he'd been very serious.
nadal owns federer 13 to 7 5 to 2 head to head. what is miami vice federer or karate champion gonna do when nadals takes back his number one. 10th of august nadals back. he will win the us open and take back his number one. nadal is the best player so far this year has won 6 tournaments federers 3. sampras is a brown tough he has lost his prestiege. laver hasn't he said you cant find the greatest only the greatest of yr generation. laver is the greatest ever did the slam 2 times.
Wnning 1 slam & 5 other small tournaments you think that's better than winning 2 slams? what a fool.. Seeing Sampras doesn't work on Fed, now turn to nadal. Well i got news for you. nothing is certain until we see how well his comeback will play out next month. nadal and his stupid fans shouldn't push it or he's gonna break every bone of his. who knows what's gonna happen, maybe he'll lose before final again. Besides, Fed has won 15 slams so far, that's more enough for rafa fans to cry about.
Here we go again, the useless h2h records. If nadal is truly that great, why isn't he the one who wins the most slams? What a king of excuses.
