  • So so true especially when you are in Africa listening to the APEC news makana's activity, Bradley Manning trial after how long without bail and the latest video's about 911, the meltdown of the Euro, the dissolution of the Super Committee, it all comes back to you the wonderful 40% who voted, and the 60^ who didn't

  • I see the beautiful tendencies of YouTube users has taken over this video... I still love to hear your music though. Keep it up. I love your music. "The people who are trying to make this world worse are not taking a day off. Why should I?"--Bob Marley

  • Yes, we got it. Your voice is heard.

  • 'at'chainmail-maybe good to share your critique in a more compassionate and understanding way with more tact and grace? your initial comment was not as wise or well written as your others. the part about ego and 'never cease to amaze me' - the tone in that is very condescending and rude. compassion. if you have a valid message to deliver, do it with pure wisdom and respect out of true concern for his clarity and healing. take a moment for your annoyance or trigger to subside. blessed love.

  • 'at'nahko- maybe a good point here being made about the danger of generalizing? i wonder what our man dancing hawk/robert would say... he has taught me to not identify as 'white' or 'western' or anything else, but just as earth people. as your musical message progreses and is refined it may be more inclusive to target those oppressors specifically who are doing harm, those from every culture. let us look at the parts of chainmailperson's comments that are true. seems 2b all from love.

  • It's only hurtful if you take it personally, which you are likely to do if you are not an active part of the solution.

  • @chainmailapron - the musical qualities, which are ironically, in this song, largely expressed on 'western instruments, in 'western' tuning, in 'western' style -->OH THE IRONY- for real!! Anyway a very good conversation here and very good points by chainmailbuddy which are being misunderstood by most. I can see that to GENERALIZE about any group, specifically here 'white', 'western', or 'man' is indeed racist and perpetuates ignorance. Maybe better to sing about specifically 'the oppressors'?

Dude, you are so missing the point for the false prize of being right. You wanna be right? Yes, Nahko has an ego. He's a human being - it's part of the package. Yes, he makes statements about oppressive acts by certain groups of people. That's reporting of history, which repeats itself when left unchecked. You have to recognize the truth before you can learn from it. Wake up! Name what you don't like if it helps you move on; look for what you want to see more of that is already

  • if the 'disease' or the ailment is societal confusion, materialism, a brainwashed state of disillusionment, fear and hopelessness, loss of connection to our communities and roots it follows to say that a cure or a 'medicine' for this is possitivity and upliftment through the arts, namely music, community gatherings, education, conversation, and love. seems like a very good start for a movement of medicine people.

  • teeheee, rise to the challenge,... and walk away. Those who challenge our spirit only make us stronger and more sure of who it is we really are. Bless on @Chainmailapron. Truly. Thank you for your questioning.

  • I tell ya what, I saw Medicine for the People for the first time at the Shagri-La festival this past summer. My first real festival experience. I don't even normally listen to this type of music (I play in a metal band). MFTP did an impromptu acoustic set one night, and that shit damn near changed my life. It's medicine for whoever needs a good dose of positivity in their life. No one really cares about your personal views on Nahko. I met him briefly, and he was extremely kind and gracious!

  • chainmailapron- here are some relevant definitions for 'medicine'-

    3. An agent, such as a drug, used to treat disease or injury.

    4. Something that serves as a remedy or corrective: medicine for rebuilding the economy; measures that were harsh medicine.

5.a. Shamanistic practices or beliefs, especially among Native Americans.

    b. Something, such as a ritual practice or sacred object, believed to control natural or supernatural powers or serve as a preventive or remedy.

  • also- (Social Science / Anthropology & Ethnology) something regarded by primitive people as having magical or remedial properties; b : something that affects well-being.

seems that this music has a proven and observable effect on 'the people' thus it seems like an accurate title for the outfit. while nahko's humbleness always has room for improvement and his wisdom shall ever be increasing as a result, there is no doubt that the message in this music is pure and the love is felt by the masses

  • Hey, I was sent your way last night from running into a lady who's related to the drummer! I gotta say I love the tune! It sounds so much like Dave Matthews that I looked it was a cover of one of their songs. BTW, I'm a drummer too, though I do Afro-Cuban.. Nice harmonies! I'd like to see the lyrics! All the best from Boulder!

    Dave
