Yes, If you are going to jump from Rockmill, please be respectful of the Grist mill...Many hours of hard work and money is going into the restoration of this mill. Some punk azz kids were there last summer and me and 2 friends ran them off for throwing rocks into the windows. Its sad that fat, inbred, pieces of shit have to ruin the jumps for the rest of us. Most of them dont even jump anyways fucking pansies.
I have jumped from here many times. I have been told twice this summer to leave and not return by the fairfield county sheriff department. Its private property so technically they have no authority unless the landowner says otherwise. The water is pretty cold no matter what time u go. I Sheriff said to go back to Sugar Grove and told us to not come back lol.....
They do suck the sediment off the bottom. Last year we went to jump but they had a ton of people there doing picnics and riding a gator to the bottom where this old guy did a tour for them. The fire dept. was there and told us they did it twice a year I thought they were Farfield County but they had dive suits on and I never seen the trucks but they told us and we watched on an underwater video ca they had right there beside us they were removing trash and sucking the sediment up.
Okay, they DISPLACE sediment, they DO NOT remove it from the riverbed! And the "ton of people doing picnics and riding a gator" were not random people, but rather the Annual Rock Mill Rally, which is a grass roots effort of the volunteers of Fairfield County Historical Parks to restore the historic grist mill. The old guy is the parks director. I've been a volunteer for 7 years and have also seen the dives for the past 3 years. This property belongs to the park. OPs cleans out the trash.
Anything that is displaced settles back in the hole eventually I guess is what I mean to say. My point is only that the hole doesn't become deeper because of their activities
Just a friendly warning that the Sherriff's dept is not messing around anymore with trespassers after the recent $2,000 worth of damage by vandels to Rock Mill, the historic mill adjacent to the jump which is undergoing restoration. State funds are helping to pay for the restoration so I think that the cops are finally fed up! Sucks, cause I'm sure it's not the same people who come to swim and enjoy the jump, and now it's ruined for everyone!
I just jumped today (9-1-09). I went up 3 times and hit the bottom 2/3 times. It's cool though because the water slows you down and you can push off the bottom to get to the surface quicker.
i go here all the time its deep but you can touch bottom i do about half the time, ive jumped from every point, done some stupid stuff like gainers and jumped 5 ppl at once. its a pretty cool place to go
My brothers and I have been here a hundred times jumping. Litterally every weekend during the summer. the main cliff is 40 ft and the bottom of the hle is 17 after the Farfield county fire dpt. sucks the sediment off the bottom which they do twice a year. In fact last year we went to jump and couldn't because they were there, and to top it of they puled out bowling ball and dirt bike that had been there for a few years. And I am 175 and hit the bottom every time and push off to come back up quik
Trust me the fire dept does NOT "suck the sediment off the bottom"! Fairfield County OPS DO come out and dive the hole every couple of years for training purposes, and have pulled out everything from bikes to bowling balls, tree limbs, and motorcycle. NO SEDIMENT SUCKING INVOLVED!
No one knows for sure how deep it is, everyone says a different number. I have jumped from the water fall and from the main cliff (closest to the bridge), but never from other cliff at the top (maybe soon).
The only thing to really worry about is the freezing cold water. It's definitely deep enough, and I have seen a couple baby fish in it, and plenty of green algae, but never anything dangerous in the water (and I've been there at least 10 times)
Im from Lancaster...I have been out there a few times, and jumped once, about the time i got to the top to jump again a Fairfield county sheriff stoped us. He said they are gonna start arresting people for tresspassing. Anyone know the exact height from top to bottom is?
it is legal to jump from the waterfall only the cliffs are off limits but no cop no stop

After doing some research, the hole is supposedly 50ft deep. There are numerous spots to jump from, 40ft being the highest (i believe)
letrackhero05 3 years ago
it is much deeper than that its like 150 foot deep iv lived there for all my life and my cousin dives there its deep

It is 40 ft. from the cliff to the water. I don't know how deep the water is... The bowling ball tied to a string method didn't work...
