Something just occured to me after all these years: the chordprogression is the same like the ending of Iggy Pop - Gimme Danger ! I don't care which was first as I'm a huge fan of both, but it's funny to find new things in your favourite music after having listened to it over and over again for so many years.
We'll share a drink and step outside, An angry voice and one who cried, 'We'll give you everything and more, The strain's too much, can't take much more.' I've walked on water, run through fire, Can't seem to feel it anymore. It was me, waiting for me, Hoping for something more, Me, seeing me this time, Hoping for something else.
okay...i needa stop listening to joy division man. it's too fucking intense. i think i'm literally going to go mad. i'm gonna go on vevo now and just listen to whatever pop crap their advertising . maybe some rhianna IDK, I JUST NEED TO GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE!
@lilwelshladee omg...i'm EXACTLY THE SAME! it's like it's so good i want to kill myself. not because the songs make me sad, i quite enjoy them actually, it's just, IDK their sooo intense, i lose my mind a bit :^)
@MayIRemindYouSumtin I totally agree. I feel that Kurt Cobain just followed in Ian Curtis's footsteps. Not that he didn't have his own problems, he just choose the same path.
Can anyone recommend any bands similar in sound and the kind of dark style? I have mainly stuck to Floyd, Syd Barrett and Led Zep and that sort of thing. Always known of JD but only really the last 6 months I have started to explore all their music. Have stocked up on films, cds and books of them and Ian and think they and him were amazing. Love the sound though..
@dalgroves10 try any new stufff maybe? more electronic and less organic and acustic, still: New Division, John Maus, Gardens & Villa, just to name a few. Love it or hate it, though :)
How many Sheep have fallen over this Satanic sound. When God gives me lemons I make lemonade not a sour puss. Age brings experience and reduces pathos except in love.
@fabulousgerro66 and how many resilient minds have escaped the pathology of religious thought to find solace, spirituality, strength, solidarity- and lots of other good s- words- in great music that is not afraid to explore and express the darkness, which is every bit as valid in finding wisdom as is the light?
@TheGuyFromThatMovie What I think is missing from the mainstream is people and bands like JD that spent time THINKING and for themselves and made music they felt, not what someone told them others would want and pay money for.... There is there is infinite difference between those two worlds.
@Document3Music while joy division did prove to be one of the single most influential groups to come out of the time frame that they so briefly existed in, and, yes, industrial music was greatly influenced, dubstep can not be included. although, many dj's love new order, and in a sense, you could easily speculate that new order (the remaining members of joy division after ian curtis' suicide) did in fact inadvertently influence the direction that electronic music moved... not much else.
@mediattackrecords Did I missed something? I didn't talk about religion at all in my comment. And honestly, who cares? Joy Division is great by itself, I don't care if they are christians, jews or neo-nazis, as some say.
ok this song is more about hope than anything else - if you really listen to the lyrics and try to view it as a short description of what it takes for a relationship to work - in my opinion the fight is a catharsis for him to introspect and realize he must change -because no matter what he does or how much he sacrifices, he will not connect.
@mangokiwibanana As a matter of fact... I think my cat did the same thing! If I played something like this he would look at me a little saddened and concerned, as if he was thinking: "Oh dear, here we go again. All that angst and tension. Why can't you relax a little. Look at me, I'm relaxing... But that sharp snare drum is giving me a headache."
A classic piece of avant-rock art. It is a perfect distillation of sounds and feelings which came before it. To hear the genesis of this 'sound', find and listen to these two bands/tracks...
— "Can - (1969) Monster Movie - 02. Mary, Mary"
— "Iggy Pop and the Stooges - (1973) Raw Power - 02. Gimme Danger"
(Especially pay attention at time "00:01:45"... of "Gimme Danger")
Could be just the intonation saddles on the bridge needed setting, which needs to be done very so often, otherwise some notes sound slightly out of tune on some parts of the neck. Sounds fine to me though. Maybe I'm tone death.
Damn it, always believed that Song was in fact a Moby song - anyway, his version ain't bad either. Super cool is the scene in Michael Manns "Heat" when Pacino meets De Niro the song was background soundtrack....
i fucking love this band...punk, mild-progressive, poetry, boundless Rock N" Roll energy a Bowie style seduction...i just can help but let my jaw drop.
There are 2 kinds of days. The days where I wake up and I want to listen to the world. And the days where I wake up and I want to listen to New Dawn Fades.
I don't know how anyone can dislike this song. It is such a great classic. If it wasn't for songs like this you would have no Killers. Younger generation sadly doesn't respect that.

A change of speed, a change of style.
A change of scene, with no regrets,
A chance to watch, admire the distance,
Still occupied, though you forget.
Different colours, different shades,
Over each mistakes were made.
I took the blame.
Directionless so plain to see,
A loaded gun won't set you free.
So you say.

Producer Martin Hannett singlehandedly created this dark, haunting early JD sound, at Strawberry studios Stockport.
Tony Wilson took the master tapes of Unknown Pleasures .. and ripped Hannett right royalty off in the massive sales re-release years that followed.
Its invariably the real creatives that get the rough end of the stick in life.
