i remember watchng this clip and thinking that Andrew P had a bit of a Steve Howe fetish (hair and Gibson 175!). Found his actual 175 in Fretted Instruments for sale in 1986... would have bought it but i already had one....
The Sports were a brilliant band in their own right. No need to lower their standing by suggesting they copied international artists like EC. In any case, I agree with wangdang's comparison with Graham Parker, rather than EC.
In reference to the interesting bit of trivia -- it is important to note that Kim Craig appeared in the funny Australian (original) version of Kath & Kim as opposed to the painfully banal and humorless version made for the American market.
@pingwingling It's hard to imagine that some bright spark would have thought it possible to americanise Kath and Kim. Whilst I didn't see the US version I can well imagine how bad it probably was. Look at me Kimmy!
Hope this band reforms..they had so many hit songs in a row...and without doubt the best live band in aussie rock...better than chisel and all the others put together..they held the record at the San Miguel Cammeray..people way back in the toilets listening tom them..and 100s inside the place.
He recently explained in his memoirs that 'Who Listens To The Radio' and 'What Did The Detective Say' had been coincidentally written and released during the same period as EC's hits... it was a coincidence, he wasn't really trying to be like Elvis, he was trying to be himself and it just so happened that somebody else was trying to be like him too... same case with Joe Jackson. Elvis ripped them all off.... :-D
sounds more like Joe Jackson or Graham Parker than EC
