It makes me so happy to know that there are such free spirited people on this earth. They don't have a care in the world. They're not being held back as much as some others out their....(*sigh of happy*)

I also like the chosen family concept. I think it's at the heart of the stupid religious-based (and probably patriarchal) concept of 'family', too. We are moving around too fast and becoming (even though some don't like it) more multi-cultural as a result of the world becoming smaller. My definition of family is those people I care about and like being with. Many aren't related to me in any 'blood' sense and many were born thousands of miles away.

Wow! I really like the part about chosen family. Its so true for me. I grew up in a very abusive family and we are broken. I am grateful for my chosen family-my second chance to love and be loved.

There is something to be said about the value of NOT choosing your family. The family you choose will change as your priorities change. Your real family, the one you can't choose, will always be the same few people. This stability can be crucial during certain moments in life.
If you don't get along with your family or if you've suffered violence and abuse from them, you might prefer to choose your own. Personally, I like that my siblings were given to me and that I never had to look for them.

madigan=amazing. she changes my life everytime i hear her talk. that really helped me out. the great thing about these spur of the moment interviews is that usually the first things that come out of people's mouths without thinking about it is the raw truth.
