A shame there's so little info out there about fitting a cool tube to a Tak with another preamp. I've an EG523SC which sounds great unplugged but the inbuilt TK40 preamp sounds weedy. There's also a major irritation of there being no on/off switch on it. I'd like to buy a cool tube for it but info on swapping it out is minimal. Even the Takamine site has no info on doing this. It's like they don't really want to sell the things!
necesito ayuda.. tengo una con cool tube . se escucha muy bien pero se corta el sonido como si se protegiera. me pueden explicar a que se debe por fabor?
A kind of nice thing about the 12au7 is that they're relatively inexpensive, even the NOS ones. That should make tube swapping fun and it won't break your wallet.
Listen to the video posted by WillisMusicFlorence. You can hear the difference better. Also, the 12au7 operates at half the gain as a 12ax7 and I think how it's used in the CTP2 is different than how preamp tubes are used in a power amp. So starving the plate is not a concern in the Takamine.
Sorry for the late reply, been busy:- I have one. I play, produce and build guitar effects. Those were reposts, and I also understand tube gain stages - from the circuit design angle. If I need a real tube stage, I use a fearn or manley.
Im going to agree with you on the mic thing. I use my guitar at church through the sound system. You can make an awesome sounding guitar sound terrible if you dont know how to set them. They always sound better in their "natural" way. Mine sounds really nice when the settings are on with the sound board.
Well, I'm a bit biased. I pretty much never use pickup systems - always mics. I'm not keen that the piezo systems (et al) have been accepted as an acoustic guitar sound substitute when the instrument itself is so beautiful. The tube-hype bull that's being pedalled nowadays just makes it worse, for me.
Well, I guess I'm just a little peeved that piezo systems (et al) have become an accepted sonic substitute for such a beautiful sounding instrument. I don't think anyone could genuinly prefer the sound to a mic'ed up one.
Well, I'm just a bit peeved that piezo systems (et al) have become an accepted substitute for what can be such a beautiful sounding instrument. Try a mic.
The "Tube" bull that's being pedalled nowadays makes it worse.
I garantee you could get an identical sound without that tube. It's there for the marketting. Tubes don't add even harmonic distortion when run at 3 volts, they start to in the hundreds. That unit's just boosting bass.
Nice thng, but with this cool tube preamps it doesnt sounds like wood and acoustic. I think, i will prefer the "normal" preamp from Takamine. When i played it, it sounded to me more "acoustic".
sounds fancy but that is too much junk to put into a guitar. You have a tube plus batteries. What happens when you are in a middle of a gig and your tube goes out.I think takamine is trying to make cheat wood into a rolls royce. Lets stick with Taylor or James goodall guitars. A real guitarist guitar, not this crap with that clumsy box gutted into the guitar. HAHAHAH Junk
I'd have stuck with Taylors if the Expression system wasn't such overhyped crap. I've had four with the system, sent a couple back for upgrades and still got back a guitar that sounded like a 50's issue Tele. I love Taylors acoustically, but the ES is a noisy, quacky, poor sounding set-up. I am also a sound engineer and use Allen & Heath and Soundcraft boards. Embarrassing to plug up someones low end ax and have it dust the Taylors plugged in. Sad, just sad. I'm trying Takamine CT-2 now.
What an absolutely ghettofabulous comment. I see you have dug deeply into your hip hop nomenclature handbook to help you form an unintelligent, nonsensical reply that made not one single iota of sense once read by anyone, of any race. So please, guitar comments only here. Not quotes read directly from the literary masterpiece, "The way the world be", by Lil Wayne. Either way your reply here was quite simply retardtastic. Nice one.

You try to persuade me THAT IT SOUNDS WELL. I doubt even you can feel difference when COOL TUBE ON or OFF. You better call it MICRO GAIN.

Hey folks, does anybody know about the "other" more rocking tubes you can put into the cool tube? (that Brad Davis was talking about?)

I could not pick up the difference either. Maybe because I am watching on youtube not next to the guitar

Listen to the video posted by WillisMusicFlorence. You can hear the difference better.
BubbaFart 2 years ago
it doesn't matter because a tube require a lot of voltage. no way a 3v can power that tube to make it sound good.
blingblangboy 3 years ago
Well... Think you might want to check out how it works instead of comparing the tube with a tube amplifier.
I have a Takamine TC132SC and the Tube does wonders for the sound... much more then this video can justify.
I am certain that my next acoustic guitar will have a Cool-Tube...

Youtube sound quality does not really do justice to the cooltube. Go to a shop and demo it yourself.

You must not have ears if you can't hear a difference between the two :P

I have to agree. The difference is really subjective and minimal at best.

you aren't going to tell the difference off of youtube.

Bassy does not equal Tube "warmth".
