I actually enjoyed this game, yeah the story isn't very good, but it's still pretty fun, I LOVE mindhackind civilians and using them as cannon fodder for enemies, not to mention being able to mindslave enemies into attacking one another! It is a difficult game though, some of the checkpoints could be better placed and the fact there's no way to puase the game is annoying. Loved Alpha Protocol as well. You don't know what a bad game is until you've played Vampire Rain, now that was terrible!

I love games like this with futuristic settings, they always bring back the nostalgia and remind me of games like Rise Of The Dragon, Snatacher & the first Flashback on SEGA genesis. It can't suck that bad, imagine if this game came out in '96 just the way it is now on a system like Playstation, SEGA Dreamcast or PC even, it probably would've gotten high ratings, Game Of The Year Awards & praises through the roof. I don't hate on titles that still show love for the retro era of gaming. :)

@bulletcurtain define last 2 generations? Because I struggle to find games that can hold my attention these days. They all seem to be cod4 with different weapons. Keep in mind that I've just finished a game of mw3 so I'm a total hypocrite, but lets be honest, games do not have new features. The days of Peter Molyneux are gone, or the days of Will Wright releasing something that wasent Sims drivel are also gone.

That said, Kingdom Under Fire 2 should, hopefully, shut me up.

@kai101m5 Although I agree that popular games these days don't tend to innovate nearly as much as they used to, the overall level of polish and narrative has mostly improved. For example, mediocre shooters from this generation (ex: Prey on 360) tend to be way more playable than good shooters from the last generation (ex: Return to Castle Wolfenstein on Xbox). This is a pretty huge generalization, so I'm obviously not saying it's 100% true (obviously there are all kinds of exceptions).

@bulletcurtain agreed, 100%. Sorry, I got the wrong end of the stick there. I thought you meant that graphics were more important than anything else. I think a good example is the new Deus Ex vs the original Deus Ex from 2000. The graphics on DE1 were... well.. shit. The overall graphics on the new game are stunning. It's polished, so no need for patches etc and the whole game plays smoother than a supermodels arse. Even so, I only played DE3 once where I played DE1 about 5 times.

@bulletcurtain another good exampls is Fallout 2 vs Fallout 3. Very polished, clean and crisp (as much as a post apocalyptic world can be) yet while I played FO2 dozens of times, FO3 had one playthrough and that was it. FO2 seemed bigger and more of a living world somehow. I know that technically it wasn't and FO3 was way better, but still FO3 felt more scripted.

It's difficult to put into words, but if you try to play a former generation game these days, you REALLY notice the graphics.

@kai101m5 DE is a really great example! In the first game you're dropped into the first level with very little explanation of what's going on or what you're expected to do. In the new DE the game gradually introduces you to the story/characters/controls/game­play mechanics, etc.. By the time you get into combat for the first time you're well prepared for it. I guess my main argument would be that games these days have a smoother narrative flow, and a lot more polish (for the most part).

The game is designed to be a lot more user friendly so your not arguing with the control system like you did in games of old, but, at the same time, the story from DE3 didn't grasp me anywhere near as much as DE1 did. I loved the whole Illulaniti, MJ12, Area 51 stuff (especially at the time of the x files) wheras the new one felt like a small scale police investigation. A DE1 fanboy friend of mine totally disagrees however, so each to his own I guess. DE3 OWNED though
