  • Oh my GOD!!! it is a great performance!!!

  • It's impossible band. Amazisome!

  • Curuz no U2! Uma banda impossível...

  • Blistering performance, thanks for the upload

  • Thanks for posting, let's rock the "house" ... The Who and U2 are awesome ... Cheers, Sven (Zoobremia)

  • who is the one idiot who hit "dislike"?

  • EDGE.....HIS EXPLORER......ABSOLUTE GENIUS

  • I hear the children crying...Take me home. We thought that we had the answers

It was the questions we had wrong. You questioned who He was!!

  • think thats right ...this show started the 3rd phase on U2...1st one ended in 1990 with the release of night & day...the 2nd one ended with the ground beneath her feet i think ...

  • One of the greatest moments in my life front and center what a night what a show

  • Comment removed

  • this is soooooooo great!!!!!ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh...more than that!!!

  • December 31, 1989, Pointe Depot, Dublin, Ireland; Bono said they were going to go away for a while and "dream it all up again" (the end of the fist phase)

  • @crashj71 so the shows in January 2010 were 2nd phase?

  • @crashj71 so the shows in January 2010 were 2nd phase?

  • sad to see them fuck up their own classic.

  • I wish they'd revive 11 O'Clock Tick Tock. Fantastic, emotional song.

  • awesome track....

  • This just shows you what a great RnR band they really are! - i was a big big U2 fan bk in the 80's - not anymore - things have changed but when i hear this - wow!! - U2 if ya is listening - god bless ya all! - get bk to me i have a really great little pub venue in da midlands - any chance u wanna warm up gig???

  • Adam is a lot more reserved in this version versus the video showing this song in the80's....he was rockin then!

  • Larry Mullen is no Keith Moon and Adam Clayton is no John Entwistle, but that's not the worst cover version they've ever done.

  • absolutely it's different. If they were to play it note for note perfect ,with keyboards as well people would still slag them off.

  • And it's very sluggish...

  • I wish they would bring this song back!

  • As a major U2 fan (of their 1980s tours, not the spectacle stuff later) and also witness to The Who live in the 1970s, it's a great tribute to The Who. Bono has said how much Townshend's charity work gave him the idea to do it, and The Edge is on film and video paying to PT and JE as influences.

As a pure live band in their prime imo The Who are the greatest ever. But even PT says about U2 that they are able to create emotions now with sonic nuance that PT's generation needed brute force.

  • pure awesome

  • Thanks for posting this video. I was at that show and 11 O'Clock Tick Tock was my favorite show of the night. Very cool!

  • wow awesome :))

  • This is why they are still on top of the game. Keep rocking U2 U2 U2.

  • U2 is really awesome! I don't think there are many bands that can cover songs as good as they can. They took a great Who song and made it their own. That takes talent!

  • the version that come at under a blood red sky is also great!!!!

greetings from mexico, sorry my english maybe isn´t good.... jejeje, u2 is one of the biggest bands ever.

  • What I meant was something besides the blues stuff they did during the R&H era : /

  • WOW! Don't think I've ever heard U2 do someone else's music before? Cool!

  • SUBLIME

  • Great 11:00 version. I wish Mullin would do some triplets or spruce it up a bit. He's a solid player but a few tom rolls would be even better!

  • best version of this song hands down.

  • Irving Plaza, NYC - December 2000

  • is brilliant, excelent band. the best the rock.

  • This is amazing. I never thought I'd see anything like this.

Granted, Clayton isn't as complex as Entwistle is, but it's U2, and the emphasis is more on Bono and Edge, so it's still awesome.

  • i love this

  • amazing song! beautiful

  • Wow,one of the early classics.Didn't noticed that they were playing it in this decade.Reminds me of all what was important for me in the 80' far away from the most meaningless music of this decade.I'm stunned

  • охуительнные ранние вещи!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what is he singing from 1:18 to 1:25? any ideas?

  • Amazing best version of this song!!! U2!!!!

  • they should have "the Who" on the tour as a support act as well being Paul mccartney the UK artists with the Irish in the house!!!

  • The Boy/October era had the best renditions of 11 O'clock Tick Tock. This rendition here just doesn't have 'it'.

Also, nearly every album was it's own era. Though Boy/October is distinct from War, and Boy is distinct from October, but Boy/October as an era was particularly special.

  • This show had great significance in the history of U2. It marked the beginning of the 3rd phase of the band. The first ended with Rattle and Hum, the second with Pop, which, according to "the critics" was a metaphor for a loud sound made by a dying band. This night at Irving Plaza, U2 made it known that they "won't be fooled again". Their next 2tours and albums (ATYCLB and HTDAAB), were the 1-2 punch that knocked the critics on their rear ends and had the world singing their songs again.........

  • @crashj71- nonsense, U2's general phases are: The first ended with War. Their second phase began with Unforgettable Fire and ended with Rattle and Hum. Their third phase was the nineties, Achtung to Pop. This video performance, well say, marked the beginning of their fourth phase, which they are currently in.

  • @crashj71 it's also probably the end of the experimental U2 except for no line...

  • u2 is my favorite band and i luv the who but this could be the best version of won't get fooled again i hav ever heard

  • Seeing as the Who were unquestionably the most virtuoso (virtuos?) of all rock ensembles, Edge and Larry did pretty well on the cover. Adam is no Entwistle, but to be fare, who is? Quite good version, bit like the Ramones doing it.

  • "unquestionably the most virtuoso (virtuos?) of all rock ensembles,"

Fans of Led would disagree with you ;)...

...as would fans of the E-Street band...

  • Drumming, guitar, bass, vocal: all just perfect, excellent, gorgeous.

  • very very very good, the are beautiful, it's magic !!!

  • Larry's drumming _0_

  • So COOL, they NEVER play this song! So good to hear them do it again ... .if memory serves, they never played it throughout the '90's at all .. GOLD!

  • U2 is my favorite band but the Won't get fooled again has nothing on Roger, Pete, John and Keith

  • mullen jr is the greatest rock drummer of all time.

  • edge is the most unique guitar player ever. That makes him the best.Period..

  • fiveover, Liam G won't make it to 60 & Neil G is the best parrot fashion guitar player/"songwriter" I've ever heard.

  • Its not great, but U2 always had a way of putting a weird interesting twist on songs they cover, especially Paint it Black

  • Give me a break! Come on this is just like band practice for U2 covering their favorite band's song.

  • Best band in the world!

  • One word to describe this well 2 The Edge

  • Better than when The Who play it now. Daltrey's lost it and Townshend is too busy "researching" to practice.

  • We'll see how Bono Vox sounds when he's 60 and if Edge can put his gadgets away. Oasis still does the best Who cover.

  • Bono should take time to learn the words.Great version though,my two favorite bands coming together with a great song.

  • love this song. i probably shouyldnt but i do.

  • all that being said i still think its a good cover

  • im a huge u2 fan and a massive who fan anyone who doesnt know who the who's guitarist is can hardly judge whether he is better than edge or not u idiot u2 r my favourite band ever but edge aint as gd as pete

  • bollox he's not as good as 'pete'!

  • Ofcourse Edge is not as good as Pete when U2 plays the Who. But would Pete be better than Edge if he played U2? I think he wouldn't.

  • Very good point

  • U2 would sound like The Who if Pete were with them.....:D...seeing as he wrote the majority of the songs etc etc

  • Comparing apples and oranges

  • Great performance (As it's in my life, even the hour is correct...)

  • Van Halen....PFFFFFFFTTTTT!!!!!!!

  • This is how 'won't get fooled again' bass line should be played.... btw I love Adam's bass style also... I'm actually in a U2 tribute band... yep I'm the bass player....

  • Damn... I forgot the link.... boy is my face red....:)

    watch?v=IfDE-ZvfOwU

  • This show was a couple of months before the start of the "Elevation" tour in 2001. It was broadcast on the radio live as well. Great energy!

  • Nice'n'Sleazy...

  • you're probably just jealous that the Edge's guitar performance is better than the "guitar player" from The Who, so you're bringing attention to the bass music instead. Second, it's a cover and U2 gave it their own flavor obviously, but you wouldn't know that as a non-U2 hater. Third, I doubt you were searching for U2 content. Perhaps it was a search for "Won't Get Fooled Again"? hmmm?

  • Bono skips a beat at 5:40. And the bass player apparently isn't quite familiar with Won't Get Fooled Again. Van Halen's cover is much better, plus Michael Anthony does a much better job of covering the bass.

  • "the bass player"?? His name is Adam Clayton you douche bag

  • I don't know his name for a reason. Because he's f---ing up The Who's crown jewel, Won't Get Fooled Again, a song any halfass who thinks he might want to pick up a bass should learn. In the grand scheme of things, I doubt this crummy bass player will be remembered by anyone other than U2 fans or even mentioned in the same breath as John Entwistle, John Paul Jones, or Bootsy Collins. Fucknut.

  • LOL, what pathetic loser and a U2 hater you are. Yeah, I guess he was too busy working on The Joshua Tree, and Achtung Baby to be wasting time on "Won't Get Fooled Again" Pull your head out and recognize greatness...bow down to me. You are my bitch from now on.

  • Not a U2 hater-why do you think I took the time to look them up on youtube? You avoid my point w/silly trashtalk that makes no difference to anyone. Despite any stale gibe you may respond w/theres nothing you can do or say thatll make their underachieving bassist any better or more relevant to any realm of music thought other than diehard U2 fans. The bottom line is U2s bass player sucks in this clip. Attempt a refute of this argument & further demonstrate your remedial music taste & knowledge.

  • Rock n Roll people...you cannot beat this...Great Verson of the whos "wont get fooled again"

  • brillante

  • It's a long way from PopMart, thank goodness.

  • muy buena la version de los who

  • que bien suena, u2 son los mejores

  • This was in 2000 I believe or maybe 2001. The first time they played the song in more than 15 years

  • This concert was held Dec. 5th 2000 at New York's Irving Plaza a small performance theater...it was a promotional concert for the ALTYCLB album...it was an audience of only radio contest winners.

  • Radio contest winners. So basically peope who were just glad they won something off the radio and not real U2 fans. I hate radio contest winners because half the time they're just people who love trying to win shit off the radio regardless of what it is lol.

  • It's def slower than previous cuts. But i think Edge's solo at the end is much more haunting. Helped by perfect acoustics of Irving Plaza. Won't get Fooled again is pretty good, but absoultey nowhere near the Who doing on The Kids are Alright.

  • Yeah but you have to it admit it's pretty good for U2 seeing how they just learned how to play the song that day.

  • It ain't the Paradise Theater, but is nice all the same. What's with Bono's guitar?

  • absolutely superb how great would it have been to have been at a u2 gig as intimate as that

  • Nice song yeah U2! :)

  • Hmm, its definately slower then when they used to play it during the 80's. Pretty awesome though.
