All I know is when that plane crashed and I realized no more episodes, I was like "Those A**holes! Leave us on a cliffhanger like that! If Luca and Pauli could survive a nuke, Torello and the guys could survive a plane crash". And sadly Stephen Lang is more remembered for the Na'vi murdering "Marine" than as Attorney Abrams, which he deserved and deserves praise for. Lest we also not forget Ving Rhames and Gary Sinise's appearnce.
Best TV series I've ever watched. It was such a time capsule of late '50's early '60's organized crime vs the task force created to squelch it. It was like a great movie that we got to watch 1hr a week.
This show was the bomb I loved it. You of course know what that means? Cancelled!! Suck the music was awesome the plot was original and everyone loved it. Who knows what studios think? Well not like me, stupid sitcoms always come before adult programming. Do you know who pays the cable bill it's not my kids. Maybe they'll put it on reruns.
FUN FACT....I was an extra during the amazing Easter department store shoot out scene (pilot) and mentioned to the head costume designer there was an nightclub sign they really should add to the opening. It was the Orbit Room. He wrote down the address and they soon added it in. True story. Where is that sign today??? Thanks for sharing. Michael
@micpar2 See, in the UK, they probably would do something like that, but that's not how American networks roll; God forbid they should ever break the mould/think outside the box/innovate, choose your expression. If the producers had gone to HBO or another cable outlet, things might have been different. (Cf. Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire)
Excellent series, I just wish if not a season 3. NBC would had done a mini-series or a TV Movie to tie the series up. This series always reminded me of the old Untouchables tv series but set in the 1960's.
@eurodishco The trouble with Crime Story was that it really was just about the vendetta between Torrello, the Chicago cop-turned-US Marshal, and Luca, the stick-up man-turned-Las Vegas crime boss. You could only draw the story out for so long before it got repetitive and/or silly, like Luca and Pauli getting nuked, as ANOTHER poster(and I don't have multi-monikers!) observed.
@therealjoebloggs I guess you are right but I cannot help the fact that I thought the show was so different and innovative in the sense of reviving the 50's -- an era in which I did not live but thought of as quite cool. The acting was good and it was a well produced show; but I guess it was costly as well.
@MrCharlie1960 you're not shittin' there Mr. Charlie, about the old cars, that is. i would have one of those any day compared to the junk they have today !!!!
That was GREAT television! A 60's themed crime/detective story running in the 80's. Dennis Farina, as always, wonderful. He played the part so well because in real life he was a Chicago police detective before retiring into acting. No wonder the man is so great!! Now why can't they remake this into a movie?
@12AX74Life ...The full-length "Crime Story" version of "Runaway" is on two CD's...(1) "Crime Stoppers-TV's Greatest Cop-Crime Stoppers: TV's Greatest Cop Themes Soundtrack" on Rhino Records (2000 release) and (2) "Del Shannon 1961-1990: A Complete Career Anthology" (2 CD Australian import from Raven Records...1998 release)...on disc 2. Should be available at either Amazon or CDUniverse.
I don't know this series, I was too young to see it back then. My parents made me go to bed. But damn, just seeing this opening made me want to see it like hell! :p
Don't know what I liked the best...The WOMEN, the music, the CARS, the whole "1963" thing, or the fact that most of the guys who played in it were UGLY..Or at least looked like REAL people, not preening metrosexual weenies...Naturally, they had to cancel it after just 2 seasons...But Shyte like the 15K versions of "CSI" goes on FOREVER...
This is the first season theme and beginning, while they were still in Chicago. The Las Vegas shows were after they were appointed to the organized crime task force.
I was sth like 12 when I watched the last episode,,, when the plane with Torrello on board crushed in to the sea I was literally shocked ! I was crying for at least an hour :) best tv show ever ! :)
REAL COPS DOIN- IT THE WAY IT SHOULD BE DONE....BRING THAT SQUAD BACK AND AL-KIDA WOULD GIVE IT UP IN A HEART BEAT, NO NEED FOR WATERBOARDING, BUT WATERBOARD THEM JUST FOR SHYTES AND GIGGLES
Great Show. Its on DVD but a terrible transfer mostly. Todd Rundgren did not sing the theme song. Del Shannon remade the song for the show. Rundgren did the music for the first season but left because he thought the show was too bloody! One more bit -Stephen Lang is in this show. He is the military commander in Avatar so many young guest stars Julia Roberts,Kevin Spacey,Ving Rhames,David Caruso, Lorraine Bracco,Ray Sharkey, Andrew Dice Clay and Gary Sinse We need a better transfer DVD/Blu .
Finally,I found it!! I knew I wasn't crazy when I had memories of this show...I was 8 when this show was released and I watched a lot of episodes.Thank you aegermeister for uploading this!!
That show ruled. Paulie and Ray were scary mother-fuckers. Great period piece about America's Golden Age, back when we ruled the world and we made things.
Yep, Miami Vice and Crime Story... Michael Mann hit on a great theme. Cruising around late at night with with well-dressed cops in a big bloody car, and making it look like the coolest thing in the world.
Man I remember watching this show when I was 8 yrs old. It was one of my fav shows. I remember they used to show on the cable station USA, but this was back in the 80's. :o)

@malizlato I see you like your own theory about Magnum, but let me tell you something: my father use to work on television in 80s and I can tell you 100% that Magnum was on TV. I don't know why are you trying to prove that it wasn't?!
If you're trying to convince me I'm wrong you're not gonna make it. I don't have to search for it because my father has so many copies on VHS (from tv stations) including this and Magnum. I know I've watched that many times.
@malizlato As much i remember i didnt saw it neither, but Sledge Hammer was awesome, too shame they were just showing it in a night program Oko ponoci if I remember well.
You know, that was a cool show, but I don't think I appreciated it enough at the time. It portrayed the end of the noir era more or less...early '60's. Loved the smokey bars with "space age" neon signs out front.
My Dad and I watched this whole series together when I was a kid. Being in Australia i don't think it made it to TV so we'd rent out the videos. Good memories and great music.
@sevenworlds My Dad and I watched it together on the TV together in the '80s here in the US and loved every episode. The clothes, music, cars, hairstyles and even the weapons were period correct. You gotta love the guy at the end on the right with the M2 .30 carbine and in the Las Vegas opening theme he unleases it in anger on the strip. Classic!
@maureencora1--Oh, man--the one about the serial killer who thought TV was directing him to kill was wonderful, too... Especially the ending atop a station antenna...
Es curioso que ese estilo de fotografia haya quedado en los 80s, esos atardeceres nostalgicos, muy propios de la epoca, se me enchina la piel de verlo
A classic that is played about as much as any song recorded. Take a look on the map and find Coopersville , Mi. Could such a giant hit come from here? Well it could and it did. Back when music could find it's way to Americans. Corporations have destroyed our talent pools.
this was definitely from an era where shows didn't involve a bunch of nobodies singing, stupid dance acts or a panel of judges that are afraid of finding a real job
the last serious bad ass cop show .

Remember "The Pose" at the end with the detectives?
Chicago10281 2 years ago

Es curioso que ese estilo de fotografia haya quedado en los 80s, esos atardeceres nostalgicos, muy propios de la epoca, se me enchina la piel de verlo

anyone know name of song on season one finale during atom bobm explosion.
lobofett12 2 years ago
A classic that is played about as much as any song recorded. Take a look on the map and find Coopersville , Mi. Could such a giant hit come from here? Well it could and it did. Back when music could find it's way to Americans. Corporations have destroyed our talent pools.

this was definitely from an era where shows didn't involve a bunch of nobodies singing, stupid dance acts or a panel of judges that are afraid of finding a real job
