  • This pedal's tone totally kicks you in the nuts! :22

  • Thats what imtalking about!!

  • NIGHTTRAIN AT THE BEGIINNING :D

  • RHCP

  • @jnagengast How was band practice volume? I'm thinking of getting one too, as my band plays Classic Rock covers. I already have a Marshall TSL 122, but sometimes need that extra push

  • @blueleadguitar The TSL has more than enough gain by itself for classic rock.

  • Thank you Andy, I'm recieving in my Hellbender tomorrow, your videos convinced me to pull the trigger on one. My current (and longtime) favorite overdrive is a Landgraff Dynamic Overdrive which I LOVE, yet I don't believe I hear the classic Marshall tones in it as I do with the Rothwell. Will be fun using them together, I believe the Hellbender will be my baseline rhythm tone then I'll add in the Landgraff for lead sustain. Perhaps I'll post up my own "Smackdown" vid of them.

  • Literally, just picked one up in your store today, LOVE IT!!! And I've learned it stacks surprisingly well with my Multidrive!! You guys should experiment, you'll enjoy what you hear!!

  • I think I like the articulation. Clean when OD off perfect beautiful Fender then back to Hellbender world.

  • me and a group of friends got all our pedals together the other week. i stacked this with a sweet honey overdrive and neerly died with joy

  • Night train... Great song..

  • what is he plaiyng 2.40-3.00?

  • I did buy this pedal to celebrate selling every marshall I ever bought and sold after enjoying them lol! Hellbender is a happening tone for classic rock to harder rock saturation gain and made my choice easy because they're were too many lovepedals to choose from. I'm on the verge of purchasing a 65 Fender Deluxe Reverb RI for the outstanding clean tones to keep my rig compact and versatile. That or perhaps an Orange Tiny or Dual Terror. What do you think?

  • @GameLevelEditor The DRRI is soooooooo apples to Oranges TT pears.... way different. DRRI is bright clear, articulate, the Orange is warm, fat and fruity (ooer). Yuo need to decide what flavour you want as pedals will sound very different between the two bro.

  • I just got mine today. Hearing it is like an eargasm

  • how much is this

  • hey, does this pedal have any modeling going on (hope not)

  • @hevechvy no, its all analog overdrive and no modelling :P

  • can I use this pedal whit the clean channel of my marshall jcm2000 for the same sound?

  • @zaf8666

Not even close. It's a nice pedal, but it aint the tube driven front end of a very good Marshall amp.

  • which song does he start to play at 2:41?

  • Andy: Were you playing through the amp's Vibrato channel? Where was the channel's volume dial set?

  • I think this thing sounds amazing. How does it respond to using the guitars volume knob? Can you get it "clean" like when rolling back the guitars volume through a vintage Marshall?

  • The best thing about this pedal are the mids and natural presence you get which is pretty unique, its also extremely quiet at max levels. This is a top notch pedal.

  • whats the prices on these magic boxes?

  • @Magoooobly $199.99, I know it sounds like a lot, but it is top quality.

  • 1:17 awesome song choice.

  • awesome sounding pedal . . . I really liked the I Could Have Lied riff at the end there . . .

  • I wanna hear Visual sounds open road next to this....they both must be the best sounding overdrives out there,,,

  • Another great demo! What kind of pickups are in the Les Paul?

  • always an excellent choice of songs

  • You do great demos, but wheres the treble?! Your tone is always so dark!

  • @bigfish0804 - Repeated exposure to loud rock music has been known to result in high frequency hearing loss.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos what a comeback

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos

my hearing must be totally ravaged hahaha. I've always wondered why I always seem to roll the treble knob way up, even on my AC30.

  • This is a reason why GAS is sometimes good. This pedal sounds like about the best OD I've heard to date because it sounds authentic to my ears. My rothwell hellbender is in town now I'm contemplating the F1 boost as well that'll be next! I'm liking Rothwell product quality and hope they keep that up.

  • If i could only pick one OD pedal I'd get this one! Like many I've owned zillions of them and this one hits home has what I'd consider useful tones. I'm listening to it with very discerning ears so you can say I'm sold on it now all I have to do is buy one!

  • what is andy playing at 2:00?

  • @firsel It's Hells Bells by AC/DC

  • what do you guys think......rothwell hellbender or Paul Crowther Hotcake?

  • yea night train.

  • id trade my tonebone hot british for this pedal :D

  • This pedal sounds so good.

  • I could have lieedd I'm such a fool!

  • Whats that song called at 2:10 ?

  • I think "Hells Bells" from AC/DC

  • From 2:00 to 2:20 is Hells Bells by AC/DC.

  • Hells Bells - AC/DC

  • @Axel1933x AC/DC's Hells Bells

  • Got my hellbender and love squeeze today... EPIC PEDALS!!!! Got a awesome natural drive off the hellbender with low gain.. then with the compressor as a booster getting some screaming overdrive!!!

  • how well would this clean up with a les paul?

  • If you go to the PGS site, there are 2 different videos - the 2nd one uses a Les Paul and a Deluxe Reverb Reissue for a Led Zep tribute, Andy sure knows his Led Zep - and I love his tone!

  • IM ON THE NIGHTRAIN!

  • What's the first song that he plays?

  • are you gonna go my own way

  • night train g n' r

  • Comment removed

  • This thing sounds bloody Beautiful! I gotta get one!

  • whats the song at 2:40 i really wanna know someone please help

  • First I thought of was Guns N' Roses - Don't Cry. Dunno if that's the one you're looking for, though

  • @McLovinFFS its Night train by GNR

  • Rock on !!

    Very Eddie Van Halen sounding

  • NIGHTRAIN!!!!!

  • Are you gonna go may way!!!!

  • We have an OCD - a great pedal. The Rothwell sounds different but it is a fantastic tone.

If we were buying today it would be hard to choose!

  • do anyone know the name of the song at 2:05 ???

  • hells bells acdc

  • Do you think this could give me a led zeppelin early days sound with a telecaster?

  • you can basically get any good sound out of a true american tele. It has a little more twang which is a vintage style.

But with a good tube amplifier you can get a good warm sound from it to give you that Zeppelin sound. Jimmy Page used a gibson les paul not a telecaster. Once again some good tube amps are a fender twin reverb, vox ac30CC2, or if you have the money get a JTM45 marshall sound for that UK distortion that keith richards and Jimmy page have.

  • @guitarsurfer1

    know your zeppelin!

page used a telecaster as well

  • @guitarsurfer1 actually my favorite jimmy page tones used a little tiny tube amp and a telecaster.

  • Page used a Tele for all of led zeppelin 1 and the solo on stairway and various other things. In the late 70's he favored late 60's strats. he was mostly a les paul guy, but he loved his teles too...and in the studio he used tiny 15-20watt amps for major crunch at low volumes

  • Try the MJM Brit Bender. I'm pretty certain that Paige used the Soul Bender fuzz with the Tele on Zeppelin 1.

  • What does it mean to push the front end?

  • It means to distort the amp by putting a lot of volume into it. So the overdrive sound you hear is the amp breaking up.

  • pushing or driving the front end means driving the power amp valves, giving a meatier distortion as the power amp valves are more powerful. less gain and more vol on the pedal puts more watts through the power tubes.

  • push the amp into overdrive and make the volume go up too

  • This one or OCD?

  • The OCD seems to have a wider range, but if you want the style of sound coming out of the hellbender, I'd buy it. The Hellbender beats the OCD in the classic marshall overdrive sound, but the OCD can do more. That's what I've observed at least.

  • sounds like u cud play a real nice "wind cries mary" with that :)

  • I could have lied- rhcp

  • What song at 4:26

    ?

  • HELLS BELLS!

  • i'm on the nightrain!!

  • This sounds so much better than the Tubescreamer

  • Comment removed

  • It's a beast...

  • 3:15 WALK AWAY! Yeah!

  • Mmm a real Marshall in a box pedal, sounds like a Guv'nor edition 1 but better...

  • Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice

  • On for the christmas shopping list for sure!

  • me like rothwell pedals

  • I would be so disappointed if andy's board consists of a few Boss and digitech pedals. I would honestly slap him in the face.

  • What song is that at 1:20?

  • are you gonna go my way by lenny kravitz

  • 1:20 sounds like some of Metallica's covers...not sure...might be wrong...maybe I am wrong :D

    2:04 sounds like AC/DC :D

  • No man, 1:20 is Are You Gonna Go My Way by Lenny Kravitz

  • Hey Andy,

I got this pedal but it doesn't sound like you in your demo.

I'd play through a vox AC30 and a Fender Blues Junior with two different Les Paul.

What kind of Les Paul did you use for the demo ?

What were your settings on the deluxe ?

    Thank you

  • It's also because they use high quality cables, a low noise environment. He uses an Epiphone Les Paul with Semour Duncan pickups. Also Deluxe Reverbs sound WAY different from AC30s and your blues junior.

  • how loud do you have the amp set? the amp needs to be somewhat loud to begin with in order to sound good.

  • One of the very best overdrive i've heard in a long time.Kudos to PGS for bringing us some not well-known companies with stellar products.

  • Best demo I've seen in a while! I miss the lengthier PGS demos though, would have been nice to see a longer Lovepedal Kanji 9 demo.

  • Are You Gonna Go My Way/ Lenny Kravitz YEAH!!

  • AND "I Could Have Lied?" Oh man Andy....you know soooo many great songs. I love all these videos.

  • Night Train! Hell Yeah!

  • nice demo:)

hells bells, i could have lied, are you gonna go my way..

    Nice!

  • Although it may not be too overly "brutal," if you're talking like Metallica gain levels, The Homebrew Electronics Full Metal Jacket is probably the best sounding distortion unit I have ever heard. And I' not a fan of distortion pedals haha

  • hell's bells - ac/dc

  • Yeah :D

  • i like the sound

  • you probably want a distortion pedal not overdrive

  • i'm on the NIGHTRAIN!!!!

  • 3:15 what's that song? :P

  • Walk Away by the James Gang (ie Joe Walsh)

  • MXR Dime distortion? :P

  • I Could Have Lied!

    =D

  • Hells Bells :D

    sounds great!!!

  • HBE Doomsday Device. pro guitar shop had a demo of it, ive never actually played one, but it seems pretty kick ass

  • i could have lied!

  • Sweet, night train. pedal sound sick!

  • nah i dont know. i thought it sounds pretty good :)

  • really dynamic. I like!

  • haha! lenny kravitz! :) i like, and this pedal does sound awesome, really rich and very well defined, :) great demo too

  • Try the damage control demonizer.

  • Are You Gonna Go My Way... Sound's good.

  • ROCKET QUEEN!!

  • NIGHTRAIN!!

  • sounds gooood! i was going to order it but when i saw the price tag... :-(

  • Should have lied im such a fool! Chili Peppers! Frusciante is dah man.

  • Nice I Could Have Lied solo.

  • That has to be one of the best pedals I've seen for versatility and natural tone. Very, very good indeed :)

  • Awesome Tones

  • Was going to buy an OCD, defiantly going with this one though.

  • are you gonna go my way??

  • yep:)

  • i'm on a nightrain!!!!

  • actually, yer prolly on a chair

  • thank you soo much for the oldschool chili peppers :DDDD

    your the best andy.

    one day.....

can you show us whats on your board????

    that would be grand :DDDD

  • hell yeah! Id love to see what someone uses when they have access to anything

  • Yes Please!

  • crunchy

  • That Hells bells sounded sick on here !

  • There is some nice clarity in that pedal

  • james gang...very nice choice, andy...

  • Personally, I don't think the pedal is very good for GnR, you need a good amp for that, but the pedal itself is pretty good sounding, it does sound good for Lenny Kravitz though.

  • and a deluxe reverb isn't a good amp? true, it's not a marshall, but still...

  • better than most marshalls

  • deluxe reverbs are fantastic

  • IMO a deluxe, twin, or super reverb beats a marshall. That's probably because i'm extremely happy with the distortion pedals i have. i usually don't use amp distortion because when i play at church, i don't use an amp and plug straight into the mains.

  • for some reason and i dont know why i hear i tiny bit o van halen. i dunno

  • I know why. Listen to D.O.A. by them. It's on Van Halen II

  • I could have lied

    I'm such a fool

My eyes could never never never keep their cool

Showed her and I told her how

She struck me but I'm fucked up now

    :) Great job, kickass pedal!

  • Looks killer. Sounds killer. Btw, not every overdrive sounds the same. These guys KNOW how to make an overdrive sound right

  • Haven't heard some Lenny Kravitz in a real long time. Andy, you always have the best spectrum of songs for your demos.

  • wow the sound is really dynamic and sounds really full !!

    nice !

  • why do they always sound the same??every single overdrive review sounds like this one :D

  • When it comes to overdrive, I look more for feel and dynamics than anything. All overdrives do have similar tones, "I'd say far from sounding the same," but I get what you're saying. There isn't a whole lot of tonal variations among overdrives

  • overdrive is overated

  • Really great sound and playing.

  • yay first view and comment! gnr nightrain!!!! haha kickass

  • dude shut up you just posted to be first XD
