I do think you should promote people getting involved locally, not just nationally. There are some issues that affect most every community and can be dealt with on the local level. For many of us in the nether regions of the country, national plotitics is so remote. Unfortunately we hardly know who is running for town council, yet the persons getting elected to those positions probably affect the daily grime more than the presidential nominee.
