  • 4:08 looks like a hat! XD

  • Thanks for your helpful video! I was halfway through the fondant on my first cake (a car for my son with heaps of contours to leave me with somewhat of a skirt to press out) and found it via google. Short sharp and to the point, it let me quickly watch & run back to smooth out my cake hehe. I just needed a little extra confidence to keep going with the smoothing.

  • wont the fondant rip up?

  • it looks cute and perfect im hooping to do this

  • that was really helpful

    thank you

  • Thanks for the tip with the starch - I almost forgot.

Cause I really won't like to use white sugar ^.^

  • At first I thought these would be the hand of an old man! xD almost expelling the appetite

  • @FieldsOfCake can I just ask what the cake was covered in before you started? Was it buttercream? If so, did you say you'd chilled the cream before applying the fondant?

  • I like. I just wish the camera was on the entire cake while you were cutting vs. just the bottom half. Great Tutorial.

  • Thank you so much! Bless you! You have made it so clear and easy. I have had the worst time with the bunching.

  • it will still work the same as long as you dust the surface well. I use my regular counter too. It's a pretty cheap counter so all should be good. Let me know how it goes!

  • wht if you dnt have marble does it still work the same

  • @MissMovie2 what is the different of fondant and marzipan ? thanks for yr help

  • thank you all for the suggestions to use powdered sugar. I have tried it and do not like using it. I prefer corn starch, it doesn't make the fondant stick to the marble as much as powdered sugar does and I have had no problem yet.

  • @FieldsOfCake can u eat the cornstarch raw? just wondered

  • @FieldsOfCake I would agree. I find icing sugar makes the fondant stick. xx

  • thank you all for the suggestions to use powdered sugar. I have tried it and do not like using it. I prefer corn starch, it doesn't make the fondant stick to the marble as much as powdered sugar does and I have had no problem yet.

  • From what I've learned, Corn starch shouldn't be used due to a chemical reaction with any fondant. you should use powdered sugar instead.

  • I love my Marble... XDDD

  • can you please help us tomorrow wth our friend's cake? =P thank you for the video

  • can you please help us tomorrow wth our friend's cake? =P thank you for the video

  • what kind of icing?

  • Superb tutorial. Just what I needed. Thanks !

  • what kind of gloves did you use?

  • Very helpful!!

  • Thank you SO much!!! I love this video!!! Is it pretty much the same to do a sheet cake?

  • this video is really helpful! thanks for putting it up

  • wow thanks this was sooo helpful im glad you used all materials that I can find at my house now my fams reunion cake will be sick

  • I just rewatched your video and then worked on my cake - easy, thanks to you and this video!

  • HELP!!!!! My fondant melts when i try to cover the cake with it!!!!!! it doesnt hold in place! is it because i rolled it too thin or something is wrong with my mm fondant in the 1st place!!!!

  • you actually should of used powdered sugar not corn starch

  • Brilliant! Thanks so much for this video. I'm ready to practice now!!

  • is tht a chilled cake? thanks

  • I've always used cornstarch, it doesn't leave a funny taste at all. I have had problems with my fondant getting too dry and cracking, which after some research i have found that it could be because of the corn starch. I'm gonna try using powdered sugar next time and see if it helps.

  • i love the purple gloves (:

  • Yes, why do you use cornstarch? Thanks for the helpful tutorial though :)

  • This is not a critique, this is a genuine question: shouldn't you be using powered sugar to cover your work surface instead of cornstarch? I've been doing a lot of research on fondant (i.e. watching lots of youtube vidz, lol), and the experts mostly use sugar because among other things, cornstarch could leave a funky taste on the fondant. Also, I thought cornstarch or sugar alike should be LIGHTLY POWDERED onto the surface, not like those giant globs of cornstarch you are using.

  • @MaxDexus I've been doing fondants too and I use cornstarch. IT doesn't affect the taste of the fondant - i mean, it still tastes the same, just not as sweet. If you want your fondant to taste sweeter, I guess you use powdered sugar, but I like my fondant not as sweet so I use cornstarch. :) It doesn't leave a funky taste on the fondant at all. :)

  • talk about

    cake Boss!

  • She is NOT kidding when she says make sure you lift it up every once in a while. I have had mine stick to the counter, and I had to go to EXTREME measures to get it off :/

  • That was an awesome demo. I have seen so many videos and read so many tutorials, but none of them were as clear as yours. The "flare like a skirt" made all the difference in my fondant . I actually put fondant on my cake in 15 mins ( thats a record for me) without any folds ( thats a bigger one). I owe it all to you. Thanks a ton.

  • Wow thats a nice cake! All that work and it's eaten in 15 minutes. But WHAT a cake!

  • you make it look so easy!

  • Great video! This is REALLY going to help me a lot. Thanks for a great posting with play-by-play and tips! :)

  • Where do you get fondant?

  • @CosplayNERD you can get it from walmart or michaels

  • you've got a cuppie print on the wall! heh, great tute too :)

  • Very nice and very helpful. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thank you for sharing this technique! It has been the best I have seen so far and your finished product came out looking flawless. I liked the way you used the knife to cut the bottom to make it perfect.

  • Can you make a fondant without using marshmellows, cuz im a vegatarian and marshmellows have geletine in .. plz reply :)

  • @PinkCupcake10 Theres vegan marshmellown on the internet and in like whole foods 'n' stuff like that... And don't worry, theyre just as tasty!! :D

  • how long should i refrigerate the cake after i frost it, before i put the fondant on?

  • I love your method. It's so perfect and smooth. YUMMY!!!!

  • I tried ur method and I had no wrinkles on the bottom!!!! THANK YOUUUU!

  • I have been looking for a video that shows how to get the bottom smooth and this video helped alot! I will try your method on a cake Im making tonight!

  • Great video. I'm so glad to see you wearing gloves. Every video I've watched has been bare hands, and I was wondering if I would be able to wear some gloves.
