I just noticed that season one of The Odd Couple on dvd still retains this theme as well as the first version of the 'new theme' used throughout the '70's and '80's.
I've always wondered if these logos were MEANT to be scary. I mean, any of us who grew up between the 60s and 80s (when reruns were way more common) have frightening memories of those end-of-episode logos. The Paramount logo after the happy little "Brady Bunch" ditty used to scare the crap out of me!
Graphics that resemble the warning label on a can of Drano, music that makes children hide under the bed and a fatal-impact zoom shot. Put them all together and what do you get? Perfection!
