There is an incredible amount of evidence that it IS man made. We know which carbon isotopes occur naturally and which come from us. We know specifically which ones come from us burning coal etc. It's heating at an unprecedented. What we can do is disaster mitigation, carbon capture, carbon sequestration...but as long as we're still debating bullshit vs. facts you're right, there is nothing we can do.

No actually only one side has proof. The world is warming at a rate that is not consistent with historical climate patterns. Humans are damaging the Earth and it's ignorant to say otherwise. Actually you are mistake about our understanding of the issue. Science can't actually PROVE anything, it can only disprove. What we do have is CONSENSUS (sorry for being unclear) among the science academic community. Not one peer reviewed article has been written against global warming. It's happening at a rate far higher than at any point in history. Global temperature has risen actually. Look at the hockey stick graph for a start.
Unfortunately, the purported "consensus" is falling apart faster than Obama's healthcare reform. Just last week 61 climate scientists wrote an open letter to the German Chancellor asserting their opposition to the "consensus" and her following it.

@bobdole57 There is a 50 year carbon delay for their greenhouse effect to peak. That means that we're dealing with 60's level greenhouse effect. There is going to be a huge spike in temperature that will continue to grow rapidly. There is a limit to how fast the biosphere can adapt. I don't know how warm it is "supposed" to be. What I do know is that rapid global climate change will be disastrous to eco-systems everywhere. Secondly the Earth is huge so a half-degree is a big deal.

Now they say that global warming causes increases in snowfall. Now I could buy this. Precipitation can increase because of higher temperatures, I agree. BUT THAT DOES NOT EXPLAIN THE BELOW AVERAGE TEMPERATURES AROUND THE WORLD.
Also, you have to consider that the satellite temperature data completely contradicts the oft cited weather station temperatures. The satellites are saying the earth has cooled slightly in the past decade. Yet every year we hear we had the warmest summer on record.
Allegedly last year we had the warmest winter on record here in Minnesota. We had an entire week at -20 Fahrenheit. I don't know how they are calculating those averages, but they don't seem to jive with reality much.

The Earth's global temperatures have actually gone down in the past decade as according to UAH and RSS data. In fact, this current year of 2008 matches a typical year temperature-wise one would see in the 1980's, well before the 90's warming trend. A lot of scientists are pointing to a PDO shift in the oceans which is largely implicated as the driving force between temperature fluctuations, if the PDO increases and sustains itself, I would be hardpressed to say we'll see ANY warming.

@Srd1126 why is the US 29th in the world for infant mortality? Why can't the gov work as an insurance company? It does a great job working as a defense contractor and as a mail currier. What's so inherently bad about the government operating as an insurance company that is solely sustained off of those who willingly choose to buy into it? Healthcare coverage is out of reach for a lot of people AND a lot of people get dropped when they get sick. Cap and trade won't even cost you 1$ more per year.

Actually you are mistake about our understanding of the issue. Science can't actually PROVE anything, it can only disprove. What we do have is CONSENSUS (sorry for being unclear) among the science academic community. Not one peer reviewed article has been written against global warming. It's happening at a rate far higher than at any point in history. Global temperature has risen actually. Look at the hockey stick graph for a start.

@bobdole57 There is a 50 year carbon delay for their greenhouse effect to peak. That means that we're dealing with 60's level greenhouse effect. There is going to be a huge spike in temperature that will continue to grow rapidly. There is a limit to how fast the biosphere can adapt. I don't know how warm it is "supposed" to be. What I do know is that rapid global climate change will be disastrous to eco-systems everywhere. Secondly the Earth is huge so a half-degree is a big deal.

Climate scientists can't even agree to what degree carbon dioxide affects the greenhouse effect, much less what the time scales are. The only "consensus" is that a bunch of the IPCC scientists say its happening. How much? they don't know. To what end? They don't know.
The 2001 IPCC report also said that due to global warming, snowfall would decline in the next 10 years. Well guess what?

Now they say that global warming causes increases in snowfall. Now I could buy this. Precipitation can increase because of higher temperatures, I agree. BUT THAT DOES NOT EXPLAIN THE BELOW AVERAGE TEMPERATURES AROUND THE WORLD.
Also, you have to consider that the satellite temperature data completely contradicts the oft cited weather station temperatures. The satellites are saying the earth has cooled slightly in the past decade. Yet every year we hear we had the warmest summer on record.

The Earth's global temperatures have actually gone down in the past decade as according to UAH and RSS data. In fact, this current year of 2008 matches a typical year temperature-wise one would see in the 1980's, well before the 90's warming trend. A lot of scientists are pointing to a PDO shift in the oceans which is largely implicated as the driving force between temperature fluctuations, if the PDO increases and sustains itself, I would be hardpressed to say we'll see ANY warming.

I hope the IPCC is not your only source on the matter. If so, that alone explains your view on global warming. The IPCC cherry picks it's sources. Although there is tons of evidence against global warming, I doubt you have seen any of it.

Al Gore's book says more polar bears are drowning. How do you figure out more polar bears are drowning? Does somebody ride around in a boat counting drowned bears? True is you can't calculate how many if any bears drowned.

You can't find them in a boat. Polar bears can swim 70 miles a day. They don't drown easily.
