um, hate to burst your bubbles but there is no reason to even put that on youtube unless your asking how to make it better. Your shadows need to be much softer as the light would travel right through the material. It looks like you need to change the size of your shadows so that they are not so grainy. Also, when using the melt modifier you should never completely flatten your object as I hope you can see why when it turns to a gray mess of broken geometry.
@elrobbo6 Really? I enjoyed it. Infact I'm glad he put it up!! It's interesting, and made me want to download 3DS Max and hope that someday I might be as awsome as the fine sir who made this masterpiece!! Long Story short, You wrote an entire comment complaining about something that nothing can be done about, have a nice day.
@scampynoXD I'm sure you did, which is sad. Also, I was not complaining I was merely informing. If you downloaded Max you would be able to do this too in about 10 min. plus render time. I help teach this program to people. Just giving him some pointers.
@elrobbo6 As an avid user of Max I can say that learning the material editor enough to create this type of material and also learning some basics about animation takes a whole lot longer than ten minutes. Also, as a teacher you will know that learning for different people has so many variances that it is just rude to rip on someone who has only been playing with it for a year. This kind of behavior is de-motivating and not even suited for children.
@elrobbo6 I do not say this to be rude but that consideration for others hard work is important to motivate and eventually (hopefully) lead to greater work. However, I do understand that in industries you will need to get used to harsh criticism but as someone outside of the various industries it is always good to attempt to inspire better skills than just point out the bad in some areas.
@elrobbo6 Actually, this site is called YOUTube for a reason. I think this is an excellent animation and frankly I enjoyed seeing it. Lots of other users upload videos and animations of their work to merely share it with the world, that's what people do on youtube. I'm an animator and also share my work with people. It's not just about wanting feedback and critiquing, it's also demonstrating your abilities and what you've done. Some people enjoy that.
Are you referring to making the animation or to render?
If you are making the animation then yes it will be based on the person skills and knowledge but if it to render (creating a movie file) then it will be based on your computer and how many computers working on frames.
Very nice :) and yeah these complicated materials needs realy big time... i can't imagine how movie producers are making these effects in such a fast time. They must have 2x Duo - duo Core LOL :D and 10 GB or ram :D hehe just kiddin, but it's realy cool :)
oh man for a computer enthusiast like me, watchin you write somethin like "2x duo -duo core" and thinking 10gb of ram is a ridiculous amount is making me do a serious facepalm right now
Yeah that's right... don't worry i don't think that something like this i wrote even exist, but i do believe that there are already Terabite harddrives... Well i only think it's called TERABITE :D 1 Terabite is like 1 000 Gigabites i think ^^
So who knows... and i think there are 4 slots fot memory (i think you have them too :) ) so you can have let me think 2 GBs of memory x 4 so 8 maximal... today :D That's crazy :D haha
dude of course there are terabyte hard drives now. there pretty common. and in some desktops you can have 32GB of ram! man you got some learning to do
Sorry I disagree, each computer work on a frame so 100 computers= 100 frames that what network function that way they all don't work on one frame at a time.
I had not read the other comments, I thought you were speaking of the animation work, so 100 computers = 100* faster but what I tought was that 100 men out of 100 computers is not 100* faster, you know what I mean ?
ive been using 3ds max for 2 days now and i can create a simple rocket with no animation, looking at this makes me feel usless! lol! is this easy to get to grips with?
This is very easy if you know what the modifyers in max do(u need bout 2 weeks of working with them and a good tut) In the example he used noise, twist and melt

thanks for your comment!
You are right - the animation is not perfect and there are a lot of things to optimize.
But this one was one of my first 3D-animations and I just wanted to show the world what I've made ;-)

No 3ds max have network rendering so 100 computers working on one movie clips = 100X faster.
f2004w 2 years ago
That's sure thing... it's like making an online game and to make it work correctly and faster you need more computers...
Tallos1 2 years ago
not true... 100 computers working on one movie cant be 100x faster ... btu something like 50x faster

tuce1241 3 years ago
don't worry =)
such an animation is very easy to make.
i built a simple sphere and used a few modifiers (for example noise). then i changed the modifier-values at the end of the timeline -> that's it.
you just have to know a little bit about modificators and simple animation.
katzingerc2 3 years ago
im a lot better now...well at modelling..havnt tried the animation yet though, thanks anyway man
