The Temps were great during the '60's, '70's, and '80's. David got the Temps started with his smooth sexy voice in the '60's. Dennis came along in the late '60's, '70's and '80's with his gritty and psychodellic voice and with his sexy looks and took them to a higher level--grammys and all. Dennis was and still is fine with that gritty and sexy voice.
Sorry, meant to agree with everyone that said the temps wouldnt have been with motown without paul. But the other rock was Otis. Even though he was mostly background, his determination and persistance, helped get the motown contract. They got lucky when Eldridge left the group. Soms say the part was offered to Jimmy Ruffin(Davids brother) He passed because of a promising solo career, And refered his younger brother David.
David ruffin was not only the better preformer with the TEMPS, It was stated, in circles outside motown, that he was the best singer motown had at the time.
I loved this song so much more than cloud nine!!! This was the true gem! The Temps in my book , were the greatest group in the 60's! Today, i'd have to give it to The O'Jays only because they endured and lasted 5o years. If David Ruffin, and/or Dennis edwards had stayed, they would still be on top! Love you Dennis Edwards, keepon doing your brand of "The Temptations"!
I found this on the back of my scratched up Cloud Nine 45. When I played it, I knew I had found a gem. CLASSIC UNHEARD, UNPLAYED,GREAT TEMPTIONS! And if you are a real fan of music, this song FOUND YOU!
Why Motown didn't promote the slice is far beyond me! To me, it had all the "Right Stuff" required to have been a huge hit!!! One of my all-time favs by the Tempts!!!
I didn't know this was the "B" side of Cloud Nine.I don't remember ever hearing it back in the day.Guess 'Cloud Nine' got all the air-play.This is a great sound.I love it.Can't stop playing it.Really love the musical arrangements.
@jimmiearm I didn't hear this song until about 1993. I didn't know Dennis led a song by the Tempts that David or Paul could have led. This song has that same slow soulful sound that the Tempts had during the David Ruffin era. Dennis is really known for all their uptempo funky songs of 1969 - 1972.
David didn't make The Tempts. Paul Williams did. Without Paul who got them the contract at motown in the first place there wouldn't be The Tempts. Minus The Tempts where David got his break he wouldn't have been where he was at prior to his tragic and untimely demise in 1991. Recall he was a mediocre success as a solo artist. As Dennis was. Both David and Dennis are good in their unique style. I happen to love both of them. RIP, David Ruffin. Good luck, Dennis. Keep up the good work.
Don't get me wrong,I truly love all the original Tempts, but where is it written or expressed by any of the original Tempts that Paul was the one that got the contract with Motown for the group? Please enlighten me....
all singer some time doe get there just dudes and some time a person step in at the rigth time i thank that was dennis case not that he was better but the temp was great i am a big big fan of the temp but i ralley love david ruffin an that just me but keep the post coming check out my page
that what they say but i dont beleve that because he was the best thing that had ever happen to them an by far the best lead singer an that a fact if david had lead this song it would have beed a big hit

Then why didn't they win a grammy with Ruffin?
TemptationsFan1995 3 years ago
@TemptationsFan1995 The same reason Smokey never won one until later (1987 "Just To See Her"). It was wrong on both counts and it was what it was.
