If you Actually build up enough static charge, and dont disapate it to something before you go near the pump and then Air to Fuel mixture is correct then yes it will happen. Its static when you're at the pump don't start the pouring the gas then get in and out the car, make sure all electric static is gone from your body my any touching metal, an part of the car will do.
