  • I am confused as to why you referred to one point as a no good reason slowdown. The traffic at that particular point of the video didn't look any worse to me than at any other point. It didn't look like a slowdown to me.

  • @meteorrocketable There was traffic slowing down and when we got there, there was no reason for it, no accident or lane closure, you'll have to just trust me on that.

  • Jim did you drive a car

  • @usfreeways Yes, I was driving an Acura TL on this trip.

  • i remember going to DC and being disappointed. i thought it would be extremely huge and epic, but it wasn't

  • good linda city

  • miss dc

  • good video

  • "5 miles to DC"?

you was in DC as soon as you went from the beltway (I-95/I-495) to 295 and a about 1/4 mile up. DC covers quite a bit of land.

  • @Balance301 I meant downtown, nice grammar by the way..."was".

  • ha,ha...I'm getting to move to DC from Las Vegas. We call the "Mixing Bowl" the "Spaghetti Bowl" here...too funny!

  • all I-295 sucks if your there at 8-10 in the morning!!! everyone is going to DC for work from the beltway and virginia

  • dude if you drive the bridge at night time its so nice to seeing all the DC lights to your left

  • i really enjoyed your video! i travel around and thru DC a lot from Dulles, VA.

  • I like the music.

  • this was filmed before National Harbour was built... No wonder why those cones are all over the ramp to I-295/DC-295

  • i got tunnel vision. lol.

  • Here's a bit of trivia (that you may already know), the section of the Interstate that you covered from about 1:55 (as you crossed the Anacostia) until 2:18 (where I-395 south begins) is officially known as I-695. Officials purposely left it un-signed because there are already too many "95's" in the DC area, so they didn't want to add to the confusion; 1.2 miles.

Great videos; I like to show them to my reporters, so they can get a feel of what the roads they report about actually look like.

  • @ReliantBroadcasting Thanks! that's a good bit of trivia there, here's another one that's similar. US-50 From DC to Annapolis is officially known as I-595 but is un-signed for the same reasons you mentioned above. Notice the road is built to Interstate Standards.

  • yes, and MDOT likes to remind the public of that every once in a while by accidentally printing that in the sub-text on the Incident Page of their CHART website, under the US-50 section.

    :)

Do you plan on doing a video of US-50 along that stretch?

  • @ReliantBroadcasting -I would like to but It'll be a year at least until I'm back in the area.

  • Great Job!!! reminds me of my days in the MD, VA and DC area.

  • @lewisvilletx Thanks, I have newer (HD) videos of the area, check my other uploads.

  • damn crazy drive bt nice video keep them coming

  • I love Washington!!!

  • Hey Jim, You did nice job by posting this video. It makes me feel that I am sitting in the car and recording the video. Awesome. From - New Zealand.

  • Thank you!

  • Man, i wish i were there. u american people are so lucky. i like america, although i dont know why but i know its brief history...and i wanna be there someday.

  • @Arigaran - I'm sure you'll be here someday.

  • The mixing bowl is Springfield...if you really from DC everybody knows that duhhh. You must be from B-More or some thing....

  • Actually, Freewayjim is correct. The area around the Pentagon including Shirley Hwy, Washington Blvd, Rt-110, US-1, Columbia Pike, and the G.W Pkwy was appropriately named the Mixing Bowl way back in the early 1970s when the bus-lanes (now called H.O.V. Lanes) were added. It was also when Shirley Hwy went from being VA Rt-350 to I-95 (later I-395 in 1977). VDOT still calls it the Mixing Bowl.

The Springfield Interchange was inaccurately dubbed the "Mixing Bowl" by certain local media groups.

  • What is the name of the song?

  • "Home of the Brave" By Toto.

  • I read somewhere recently that it would've been possible to build the new Wilson Bridge so that the span goes high enough to not require an opening for boats but they chose not to do it because they thought it would look unsightly.

  • Yes, the locals in Alexandria did not want a High Bridge at all, they really wanted a tunnel but it would have cost twice as much.

  • Just fyi...the mixing bowl you have labeled is NOT the mixing bowl. the real mixing bowl is at 395 & 95 in springfield (end of the video).

  • Not true, I have it properly labeled.

  • google it.

  • @DANNYxxxxxx You guys are both correct, there was a mixing bowl by the Pentagon in Arlington where I-395 and VA-27 met but the concensus is now that the mixing bowl is the Springfield interchange and the Arlington Interchange is called the Pentagon Road Network.

  • What was that?/ a drive by!!!!

  • Like the vid, but you could have gone from the South towards the North instead so that you could have gotten the monuments in it. It's what we're known for!

  • I was heading south in general so that would have taken me more out of the way that I already was and the sunlight was better heading southwest at that time of day.

  • Can you imagine driving on the Beltway at this speed? During Rush Hour? In the SNOW!? Jeez...

  • this video frightens me! it makes me feel like I'm driving that fast haha. I would NEVER want to merge at that speed.

  • I like your work. You are an aggressive driver! Anyway, please keep the videos coming.

  • Thanks, sometimes I get scolded for that :)

I'm just trying to get through traffic and get a clear view for the video.

  • If I listened to this kind of music I'd drive a lot too. What is this music ?

  • Toto - "Home Of The Brave"

  • Thanks Freewayjim I just created a pandora stream based on that . Now I can attack the one way alley [dc] and get some beer .

  • in fact I-95 goes through more states than ANY other interstates belive it or not.

  • 15 States (including all 13 colonies) & .11 miles in DC to be exact.

  • it may go through more states, but I-40 feels longer. most of those flat midwestern states kind of blend in together!

  • I-95 longest north south (about 1900 miles long

I-90 actual longest (3000 miles long)

  • Can anyone tell what's the point of D.C. not being a full US state?

Why must its inhabitants pay taxes, but must not elect a representatives and senators?

  • When the Springfield interchange was under construction I would make a point to drive down there from DC and take a ride through it every time a new phase was completed. Yeah. I'm a dork.

  • what font are you using?

  • Blue Highway

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing!

  • My favorite part of the country from D.C. north to Boston.

  • Wait till i get on 395 later today.

its goin to be a rush..

  • vonnb24- take metro weekdays, and your car weekends. That's the DC way

  • i lived in NoVA for 4 years, fun to watch the place here from europe, the place i was driving everyday! cool thanks for posting this stuff

  • i have to go this way to take my mom to work @ 6 AM and it sucks. i live in maryland.

  • yo this shit looks like your going to crash your car lmao cuz the camera is going all fast

  • I live off exit 3 on South 395. That interchange sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Two HOV lanes head north to the city in the AM and then are switched and head south in the PM. They have thier own signs & exits in both directions at every exit, very cool stuff!

  • Seattle has the exact same setup, running between downtown and Northgate. There are 2-4 lanes depending on the specific stretch.

  • same with houston

  • Reversibles are cool. To add on to kl4ng, we actually have two sets of reversibles in Seattle. The one mentioned by kl4ng (along I-5) and then the one on I-90 between Seattle and Bellevue which run West in the morning and East in the afternoon.

Too bad my commute is the exact opposite so I never get to use them! :(

  • Reversible? How does that work????????

  • This Video is great.I was there back in 1980.I have Relatives in Maryland... Giselle

  • I live about 5 minutes south of that 1st interchange to take you into Maryland at the beginning of the video.

  • Dumb question. Is the 'new 'woodrow wilson bridge open yet?

  • The "outer loop" bridge is, it currently carries all six lanes of I-95/I-495 as seen in this video. The "inner loop" bridge is a year or two away from being finished.

  • what is the name of the song in this? and do u know why it's by?

  • The song is "Home Of The Brave" by Toto.

  • sorry the mixing bowl is near pentagon AND the Spingfield Interchange i just saw this somewhere

  • You're right, frankg511. The mixing bowl is the interchange near the Pentagon. I used to live in Fairfax County.

  • at about 1:56-2:05 I use to live around there XD

  • Love your videos. The Mixing Bowl is Springfield though.

  • Thanks, I'm glad you like them. Technichally the mixing bowl is the interchange near The Pentagon, there are several sources on the internet that confirm this.

  • sorry to break the news but the mixing bowl is the interchange in springfield its not that close to pentagon

  • Nope, check roadstothefuture dot com slash Mixing_Bowl dot html. The original Mixing Bowl is the I-395/VA-27 interchange near the Pentagon.

  • What kind of car are you in??

  • Acura MDX

  • Thank you for correctly identifying the Mixing Bowl, which is NOT in Springfield.

    Great vid!

  • Great job!

  • creative
