  • what is the tune that is being played?

  • Nice one Scotland. Much love from England.

  • Aye, ye can tak the lassie oot o' Scotland but ye canna tak Scotland oot o' the lassie, that's me, an Aberdeen quine fa gets teary fin she hears the pipes. "Grace me guide" is my clan motto.

  • One word...Chills

  • Scotland forever... Free

  • As an ex British Forces member and Piper who played at the Royal Tournament, Earls Court 1973 this strikes a chord.

The ultimate lone piper lament though, is Flowers Of The Forest.

    (I'm Glaswegian, Scottish AND British)

  • Can't explain how many goosebumps i just got, Cannot wait until Hogmanay, No one knows hot to party like the Scots, We enjoy our drink, Our parties, Our laughter, Our heritage and Our Rightful Freedom!

    Long live Scotland The Brave!

    [><]!

  • @CodOverloadNoob Long live Scotland....

  • @old1280 Indeed my friend !

  • Give this comment a thumbs up if you are SCOTTISH and will vote YES to FULL Independence for Scotland in the future referendum ! :)

  • @glasgow1234 I would give you a thumbs up, but I'm from Germany

  • Thanks Finlay!

  • We shall Play this at the Grave of Lance Seargent William Duncan Findlay MM of the 5/7th Gordon Highlanders. Willian was killed by a German "S" mine with 5 Italian POW on 14-8-1943 near Frankavilla, his body was buried in B Coy Lines, Castiglione Di Sicilia by Captain Stewart Black. He was the husband of Violet Isobel Findlay. of Insch, Aberdeenshire . On 11 Nov 2011, We will remember at Catania WAR GRAVES CEMETERY the 2029 of KIA in the Catania area, during Operation Husky.

  • Super!

  • beautiful so beautiful

  • FROM THE ICY GLEN WE MARCH AS FREE MEN.

  • This man is the living embodiment of the word PROUD.

  • Beautiful!.

  • cheers son , keep playin

  • To the danish troops.

  • Always brings a tear to my eye..... the sound of the lone piper...

Makes me think of our wee country, small and beautiful.... Been through hard times but heading for better times. Hautingly beautiful :)

  • My dad done that, so proud of him

  • Always remember that you arer a son of Scottland.

  • Makes me want to take up bagpipes :)

  • @HaniiPuppy do it.. it is quite rewarding!

  • @iParatrooper I can't play bagpipes :(

  • @HaniiPuppy Sure your you can! Get practice chanter, and a teacher. go for it!

  • Thats something the US just cant pull off - exercising a tradition that goes back 2000 years drenched in 500 year old customs over looking 4000 years of history.. and just one lone piper in our modestey we are majestic.

  • I guess one person has no taste!

  • @cplmackk Don't be mad on him. He just missed the like button, that's all...

  • I can't help but admire the coolness of his playing. Solid as steel, despite being hundreds of feet above the floor. There are great moments in life and I envy this man for what must be one of his finest honours. I practiced four hours without break after seeing this the first time.

  • At 6 am one Sunday morning two or three years ago, I went out of the Swissotel in Amsterdam which is alongside the Palace in Dam Square. I was returning to the USA from a business trip in Africa.

A lone piper, in full regalia, was playing to an empty square. It was moving, to say the least. By lunchtime, Dam Square would be full of tourists.

  • I don't know about anyone else, but I just had to return his salute. I guess that's what old soldiers do. From the US to the UK and Australia and Canada. May God bless all our young men and women, and bring them home safe. God Bless and Keep the ones who have given their all.

  • Fantastic video.

  • Look at his eyes......like steel. Clearly a first class soldier

  • what is the tune?

  • @allevyrag I think it might be "Cha Till" (Ceol Beag) I could be wrong but a nice piece all the same.

  • WTF ,who vote negative??????? ...this man/woman was a big and fucking motherfucker ...Viva Escocia Viva España.Saludos.

  • i was there in 2009 it was verry good

  • i've met this guy! he's awsome!!!

  • Tears and goosebumps......this is just spine tingling

  • How very fitting :')

  • now that u can not beat th scottish pipes

  • There's something extremely touching about a man who can wear a kilt, play the bagpipes, cry, and salute all at once. Literally brings tears to my eyes.

  • Pure Edinburgh. Just waiting for Tam the gun

  • @hawickman Tam the gun died on 17 November 2005 after bravely battling cancer.

  • My son and I were there for this performance. Absolutely beautiful, except for the rain we had to sit thru. Would do it again tho.

  • Outstanding

  • what size & make of pipe bag is that?

  • cryin at each tune and Me Heart is still bleedin tae ALBA

  • Finlay.....fantastic...as always xx

  • Finlay...fantastic...as always xx

  • omg so wonderfull

  • The 2009 tattoo was absolutely fantastic. This was so emotional and...just perfect :) One of the best nights i've had.

  • So haunting & beautiful.. i love bagpipes

  • im really sorry about this but, why does the commentator speak over the first 20 secs of this excellant tune it really annoys me about the edinburgh tattoo whenever music is played he talks over it but never when there is marching or dancers on

  • Because it's the TV broadcast of the Tattoo....the commentator speaks during the first few seconds because he's introducing the band/s to the viewers. If you watch the pre-game shows by the Pride of Arizona, there's the same 'idea'

  • Was there on 8th August was bloody brilliant plan to go back again the lone piper is my favourite part of the tattoo , makes the hair on the back of my neck stand

  • imagine hearing this sound as you went to battle . and imagine how the enemy would feel

i wouldnt want to mess with a bunch of scotsmen with a piper behind them anyway.. but maybe im biased....

  • @1912scottyboy watch billy connerly's sketch "wee afgani" that's the best to explain about how the scots used the bagpipes in warfare.

  • I wouldn't want to mess with the British in any type of battle end of. Apart from sport... we suck as sport. =D

  • i was there, brought a tear to the eye.. love my alba and forevermore!

  • Tom Fleming stopped commentating the Tattoo?!?!

  • I thought the same thing at first, fear not he was in hospital this year but will be back next year according to the final credits

  • Finlay - fantastic, as ever. It makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I'll get this onto the RAF Waddington Pipes & Drums website ASAP. Al.

  • Great. Wonderfull. I love it.

  • Old sounds of Scotland.,,.. from long time..... Wonderful! I love scottish bagpipe!

  • man i am so proud to be Scottish whos

  • He's quite something! A good Scottish Piper with a good Scottish name! I'k looking forward to (hopefully) seeing the Edinburgh Miltary Tattoo in Sydney next year. :-)

  • beatiful...
