No its not the G51 will out preform this badly, this one is old, the 9700m GT is garbage with its 128 bit memory bus.

Yes the alienware m17x is better, it cost more and this is the way older version the new version is the Asus G50vt wich has a mutch better cpu and Gpu, and for 750 at current date at tiger(refurb) the alienware starts at 1800 you can buy 2 of theese for one of those you noob! (mike2839)

HAHAHAHA OMG THATS THE SAME MODEL AS ASUS G50VT-X5, I have ASUS G50VT-X5 and the difference between 2 is that g50vt-x5 has NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS and it got INTEL CENTRINO 2 DUO P7450 @ 2.13GHZ. So, it's pretty much faster than that crap. :) my opinion.

if u realise, that there is 2 USB 2.0 Plug right beside it....Ok...n if u plug in a heaset n a Mouse, or an external hard-disks........U CAN HEAR THE SOUND OF THE HARD DISK ROTATING, and ALSO a BUZZing soung if u plug a MOUSE or Flash-Disk.......its sad....i love asus Notebook, i had one of em, n thats their weakness........

It plays about as well as my desktop (with 8800 GTS installed) on Medium (some portions set to high).

I bought this laptop on TigerDirect about a month or two ago now.  Still running great. I bought a laptop cooler for it though just because after a while of playing TF2, you can practically fry an egg on the keyboard.

The disadvantage for this gaming laptop is that the BATTERY LIFE SUCKS.... My friend bought it last night and delivered this morning.. He charged 100% and he went out to show off in class today but after 2 HOURS the battery is flat...

Gaming laptops are battery drainers.. takes a ton of power to run the big gamin video cards and most are set to performance power settings. Even a gaming desktop eats power like crazy, tell your friend to lower the power settings to battery saver when it's unplugged and you will get a lot more time with that battery.

Also most laptop makers will tell you to get a second battery so you will always have plenty of power when you are away from home. Gateway told me I should to buy a second battery

i think gaming laptop are pointless ... unless you want to plug in the charger everywhere you go just to play game because it's a massive power sucker and generate enormous heat . i'll either get a netbook or a gaming desktop .

Actualy no, gaming laptops are not pointless. Say you are going to a friends house to game, would you rather take your desktop or just grab your gaming laptop for a quick session of Quake3 or Counter strike. I would rather grab my laptop and game on that than have to tear down my desktop just to move it over to his house just for a couple hours. Also most people who have a gaming laptop don't use it for gaming when they are out at a cyber cafe when they would depend on a battery.

I have a gaming laptop not because I wanted something to replace my desktop but because I wanted something that I could take incase I wanted to jump on Warcraft when I was away from my home. Trust me a gaming laptop is worth the cost and battery drain issue if you need something mobile. I also have a netbook and it gets taken very rarely, I like having the option of gaming or not, and you can't do very much gaming on a netbook.

Exactly! ...It sucks hearing people rant on about Laptop Vs Dekstop, we all know desktops make the most powerfull gaming machines! ...Most of us buy a gaming laptop so we can take it over a mates house, or travel alot.

Like you stated i would prefer to have the OPTION of gaming, HD Movies, good multitasking ect straight from a laptop rather then trying to shove the desktop into the boot of a car.

Imo having a laptop with the ability to do all that is the only way to go =)

i have a laptop and it's really convienence but what im trying to say is that the battery technology gotta step it up . for gamers like me who just cant get enough of gaming out 3 hours and probably even less as it ages . and i've encountered numerous problem with the power adapter as they break just a few month using them . i dont know how other people are using them but i just seems to run to a lot of trouble with them . sure gaming on the go is awesome , 3 hours just doesnt cut it out for me.

I wonder how much the instant OS software allows for battery drain when it's active and unplugged. Would think with it running it would still allow the computer to drain the battery because the computer is still running with most stuff turned off. Kind of sounds like a more advanced version of sleep mode in windows.

actually the only thing that is on is the led light. they have this on most asus high end motherboards and it works quite well. the os is saved on a small flash memory on the motherboard
