  • Well if you wanna talk numbers, South Lake Tahoe gets around 214" of snow/year. Truckee around 200" and Donner Pass/Soda Springs? 411" of snow on Average, which is pretty good for ol' sunny California. For a little comparison Upstate New Yorks record for most snow in a year according to NOAA was 379.5". That would have been a below average year for Donner Pass lol

  • @phillyslasher Yeah its crazy how much snow can fall in the Donner Pass and Lake Tahoe area.

  • did you get the job?

  • @sk8terhumes12345 I was interviewing for Blue Go Bus but it did not work out so I am working at a department store in Carson City, Nevada.

  • Carson City is a awesome place to live. Where did you move from? I have a friend who lives in the Gardnerville area and works at Harvey's Resort. He's been there for many years and drives up to the Lake every day.

  • @tenntod I used to live in Aptos, California not to far from Santa Cruz for almost 20 years from 1985 till 2004 and then I moved from Aptos to Minden, Nevada in year 2004.

  • Hi Coast, You're so right Tahoe is really a cool place. I'm sure it's much different today than it was when I lived there from 1973 - 1979. I worked at Harvey's Resort as a cook for a while, then worked for Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course. Then I was a cable tech at Tahoe TV Cable. I loved that job! Thanks for sharing the videos it brought back wonderful memories for me.

  • @tenntod Welcome!!!!! My first ever visit to the Tahoe area was in the year 2000 and then I moved to Carson City, Nevada area (actually the Carson Valley Area) in year 2004.

  • I feel the same as guero31030, I lived at the South Shore during the 70's when we really got a lot of snow! I miss living there too. "You can take the man out of the mountains, but you can't take the mountains out of the man!"

  • @tenntod Tahoe is a dang cool place.

  • Tahoe is bad ass I miss living there.

  • @guero31030 Tahoe totally rocks to the absolute max!!!

  • man thats alot of snow..

  • Yep!!!

  • wow.. thats a lot of snow! I like snow storms like that but only in the winter of course.

  • It was quite an experience getting stuck in this snow storm for several days. Very very deep snow. You can see my truck buried alive in the beginning of the vid.

  • @CoastStarlight11 I can imagine.. but you can be lucky this happened on holydays or were you there for working? Is that the grey truck? Is this a Silverado?

  • The Toyota Tacoma at 41 seconds is my truck and you can see it at different times through out the movie. If you take a look at 1:38 you can see my passenger side door unburied and at 2:20 you can see my truck fully unburied. I live near Carson City, Nevada and had gone to South Lake Tahoe for a job interview and got stuck in the snow storm for several days. The majority of these pictures I took while I was snowed in at the Motel 6 in South Lake Tahoe.

  • @CoastStarlight11 carson city? so you weren't far away from home. so you had some extra holidays so to speak! ;-) But with the Tacoma you have the right car to drive in hard conditions. it looks like to be beautiful place there. do you often have snow in winter?

  • Where I am at in Carson City the elevation is 5000 feet and the mountains where I got stuck at in Tahoe in this vid is around 8000 feet. It snows at my place in Carson City in the winter but not has hard as the mountains. Those snow storms in the mountains are insanity.

  • that's a high elevation... I wish that where I live (near Berne, Switzerland) the elevation would be as high as yours... cuz we don't get a lot of snow anymore... except of mountains areas.

  • Wow, interesting. Yea when the snow falls on Donner Pass in the higher elevations the snow can burry a 2 story house, its nuts how hard and how deep the snow can fall at the high elevations of Donner Pass above where I live.

  • @CoastStarlight11 - you're around 6300ft not 8000. did they close the roads or something?

  • Carson City, Nevada where I live is at an elevation of 4,802 ft and South Lake Tahoe where I took these pictures is at an elevation of 6,237 ft, The summit of Donner Pass is around 7,085 ft according to Wikipedia.

At times if it is bad enough they will shut down High Way 80 and or high way 50.

  • thats a lota snow

  • Yep!!!

  • Wow, i take that back unless you have a house right next to the tracks! LOL! But yea, i wouldnt want you to get in serious trouble because of me wanting videos of it. LOL

  • I live about 30 miles south of Reno and 30 miles south of the RR tracks. Driving to Reno is not an issue in the summer however once winter storms like this with ice and snow hit it is pure insanity. I try to stay off of the roads as much as possible in winter. I have an insane amount of job apps out right now and I am trying to hire out at a few places close by my house.

  • Interesting

  • I was about to leave Lake Tahoe in the same day when the Snow storm was about to start. Good thing I left early.

  • I had to go to Tahoe for a job interview and got stuck up there for several days when I took these pics.

  • Hell Yeah-

More powder than Tony Montana could ever deal with. I was at Heavenly for three straight days! I hiked waist in deep snow to the top of my favorite bowl then enjoyed a bowl before enjoying the bowl! Nothing like a little blueberry on a bluebird powder day. Perfect days that only Jah almighty could provide! Peace.

  • Nice!

  • Great pictures, but what happened to your camcorder I thought you had a HD camera?

  • My HD camera shoots both video and digital pictures. I was takeing digital pictures of the snow storm not video. I did not want to burn up the tape so I was just taking digital pictures on the memory stick.

  • BTW: Thanks

  • Yeah that is nuts! Hope the skiiers were happy. For most of us, that's not much fun!

  • Awesome pictures. I sure wouldn't want to be stuck. Yikes. I drove from the bay area up to Reno in January, and it snowed a bit on the way back over Donner pass but nothing like what you got. Wow.

  • Yea its nuts how the snow can come down on Donner pass. We are talking waste to chest deep snow in this series of pictures depending upon where you were in the drifts. I got stuck in Tahoe for days with this storm.

  • Anyone up for skiing or snowboarding? Hope you had your snowmobile handy, lol. I would hate to be there, I can't stand having one inch of snow, let alone a few feet.

  • This snow storm was nuts

  • WOW!!! is the only word that comes to mind when I see these pictures James. I remember back in January of 2005 when I was enjoying a winter break up in Lake Tahoe and got caught up in what was the worst snow storm in 100 years there. I was staying at the Lakeside Inn at the time and the bizzards were so bad, I couldn't see my car outside the hotel window and it was only ten feet away. Anyways, awesome job and great pictues.

    -Tony.

  • Thanks. Yea that is basically how it was with this storm, my truck was literly barried alive and I was snow bound there for several days till the storm finally passed. Snow was waste to chest deep in the parking lot depending upon where you were in the drifts and weather channel said the Sierra Mountains got as much as 7 feet of snow in places in this storm.

  • This is just awesome. Looking at the "snowpack" on the tops of vehicles like at 1:39 you can tell there was easily at least between 1.5-2 feet of snow!! I know it wasn't great being stranded but you've got to admit some of these pics (trees, lake and all) are downright beautiful... talk about a "winter wonderland", LoL!!

  • Thanks. Yea the snow actually ended up being waste deep to chest deep depending upon where you were in the drifts, it was quite an experience. Towards the end of the vid you can see how nice Lake Tahoe itself looked with the snow on it.

  • I listening to my scanner while I was running my sister to Stockton and there were numerous severe thunderstorm warnings all over the valley here in California. I am not surprised that the remenants of those cells dumped that much snow. I guess its time to break out the snowboard.

  • Yea I saw this storm pass over the valley on the radar and I figured you probably got hit pretty good by the storm. This storm ended up dumping snow that was waste deep to chest deep depending upoon where you were in the drifts. Weather Channel said that this storm dumped as much as 7 feet of snow in parts of the Sierra Mountains.

  • HAHA SWEET!!!!!!! I wish I had that snow instead of that ice I got LOL!

  • lol

  • Whoaaa....was it fun?

  • It was quite an experience.

  • It was very not cool

  • Wow!! I wish I could get that much snow!! Man, snowmobling in that!! Amazing!! Love to see trains go through that much snow!

  • Donner Pass was just north of where I was. Union Pacific most likely had tons of snow removal equiptment out and about in this storm.

  • Dude this is insane.

  • It was so nuts. I was freaking snow bound/stuck in Tahoe for almost 4 days.
