Damn. This is awful. Anch'io dischiuso is not that bad, but pitch is not good. The recit is terrible, it's not in control at all. Dimitrova is the great Abigaille. She was the real stuff. Guleghina is no dramatic coloratura, she has no coloratura technique whatsoever. I don't understand how anyone can say she's the Abigaille and Odabella of our time. Her thick russian sound fools people. I am a dramatic coloratura so I should know what I'm talking about. So I am really shocked to hear this. :S

Guleghina is better - for sure! But she was much better at the Met in 2001. Dimitrova is the last great Abigaille, and the young Callas top my list of the greatest ever.

Guleghina has indeed VOLUME, great for VERISMO like Tosca or butterfly..but for dramatico coloratura tyep of roles she is terrible..she´s ALWAYS flat on the high notes..she´s terrible at lady Macbeth and Abigaille.
For Abigaille-great singers: Deutekom, Dimitrova. To my mind I cannot think of anyone today (at least a big name) capable of singing this role as it should be!
Andrea Gruber has the volume and power, but I can't remember ever having heard an uglier voice in my life. And her interpretation is probably the worst I have ever seen. She kept jumping around the stage doing ugly faces all the time, so she mostly left me with the impression of having watched and angry chimpanzee.

Haha.... you amuse me. If you can't hear that she's flat alot the time and almost cannot get up to the high notes then you are for sure deaf. Her technique is very poor. I'm sorry if it pisses you off that I don't like Guleghina, but that's where it's at. By the way... I love Birgit Nilsson, Ghena Dimitrova, Leontyne Price, Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland. Women worthy of their high status due to actual technique and artistry. Guleghina is far away from that quality, allthough a good natural voice
