This entire episode was going to be a musical, but that idea was nixed after it turned out that John Cullum and Cynthia Geary were the only trained singers in the cast.
Still, it's one of my favorites, mostly because of these songs.
I love this so much. The highlight is when Holling appears in the background and John Cullum joins her. He is a man who was (and still is) in musicals in NYC stage. He just adds the sensitiveness to this scene. Thanks for posting it!
It's not much different than various somaform disorders, recognized psychological illness, where someone temporarily loses the power of speech or even sight to to an emotional shock or trauma. These things actually happen.
sure, this could happen. People who stutter severely can sing fluently with no problem, out of the right brain it just flows but from the left brain there can be a block in the speech/language center..
I just saw this once, when it first came out. I didn't usually watch it, just happened upon it. It was soooo annoying! Just had to check it out to see if it had improved with age; it has not. What kind of "disorder" did she have, that she could only sing?! BTW, I'm not knocking anyone else who did enjoy it :)
well, as leonard, the shaman explained it to her when she got her tone-deaf voice back, the singing was supposed to soothe her mind while she was all worked up about her pregnancy -- and it did :)
@NXfangirl when cats are sick they purr a lot, constantly. it helps to soothe their mind. i discovered this with my cat when she was diagnosed with cancer. i bet other animals do it too but as a society we've gotten away from these things. this show is full of native american and getting back to your roots ideas.
I just started watching this show again recently. I only remembered a little from when I was a kid, and I'm noticing how many things on this show that don't make sense. This is a show that throws all logic out the window, but I don't mind it. I think her singing is pretty cool.
I wonder if she was pregnant in this show because I didn't see the baby
