Valid is a subjective word. I do agree that Ska is more popular in latin america, but the U.S. has some nice ska. like new york ska jazz ensemble. Even japan has good ska. Ska is a language it doesn't matter about who's better.

yeah, when i heard lester's voice introducing the song, i knew lloyd brevett wasn't there. lloyd would always go "jah jah jah jah jah jah jah jah jah" and then introduce the next song. i heard lloyd wasn't well and also wasn't getting along with the rest of the band. i really miss him, too.

on a positive note, i'm really psyched that kevin batchelor is playing trumpet for them now. he is my favorite now.

I know some skankers that are a lot more hardcore than punkers. The worst Trash i've ever been caught in was a ska pit. Trust me, this is smooth ska because it come from Africa, wich is inspired by the rastaman culture. In the USA/Canada ska followed the punk culture ( not inspired by tough ) So this is a common thing to see punks in ska fest!

I would disagree. Ska was developed in Jamaica and surrounding areas where calypso and steel-pan musicians integrated jazz (notably horns) characteristics into their music. This is where ska was born.

So, ska doesn't really come from Africa. It's from Jamaica, mon...

Now if you want to talk about root genres, well; that might be a different story.

i'm not really surprised by that. punk and ska genres have been blended together for decades.

many punk bands, such as op ivy, nofx, rancid and suicide machines have tossed some ska into their mix.

in the u.s. most all punk kids know how to skank. after all, the punk rock circle pit dance is really just a variation on skanking.
