  • How do people grow to become so stupid? I mean, bother parents had to be in on this right? That means TWO PEOPLE had to AGREE that this was the best course of action for their daughter. What are the odds that these two idiots would pair up? I am so glad I was born to rational parents, who favor reason over superstition.

  • Shes dead now.

    Found it on skepticsbook

I'm glad these parents have to live with this for the rest of their lives.

  • That is so sad. I wonder what the authorities will do with the grief struck parents now?

  • No info on the parents.

The only thing I found was that apparently a couple of weeks before she died they rushed her to a hospital to start chemo. Too little too late.

I hope they have a hard time looking in the mirror now. 50-60% chance was a great chance for that little girl.

  • Does anyone have an update?

    Is she dead yet?

I thought about her today and can't find an update on her condition online.

  • Religious irrationality: 1

    Poor little girl: 0

Chalk up another victory, in the blood of dead girl, for the jealous space god.

  • Her parents should be locked up, end of story. Religion and children do not mix.

  • That's not the case here. The doctors are recommending a treatment with known pathways to remedy and verifiable survival numbers.

The parents have forgone all of that of behalf of their daughter in favour of a treatment with absolute no proven track record. This is not a wise decision.

Let's stick with real world data rather than wishful thinking, ok?

  • People never learn. There is NO FUCKING herbal remedy for CANCER.

  • I don't believe in the healing power of mud. Unfortunately many do and a lot of other naturalistic cures. When you are talking about the fate of children all of this becomes very very controversial. What wasn't stressed enough was that the chances of survival even with the chemo therapy was only 50 to 60%. Not exactly great odds when you are talking about a life.

They seem sincere in their beliefs. It is tragic but understandable.

  • Exactly!!!

  • Quite simply, her parents are negligent. They are bad parents.

  • If the red mud could actually cured liver cancer, don't you think modern medical science would be using it, analyzing it and trying to synthesize the alkaloids that comprise it in order to mass produce it for cancer treatment?

Why wouldn't they? I'm speechless that someone could believe this shit.

  • Are they living in the same country as the Open Universities of Australia and other top univiversities, Charles Sturt?

Ken Ham isn't the only retard that grew up in Australia.

  • CSU is in New South Wales and Open is remote distance learning. I think Ken is from Queensland.

  • ... not good thinking. True science, on the other hand, always keeps a measure of skepticism. I understand your zeal against fanaticism, a view I endorse, however, in the name of science to label alternative medicine as witch doctor stuff, simply is to engage in propaganda. My regards.

  • I listened to your other video on health care and it seems to me that the system in your country is, at least how you stated, safe. FACT, pharmaceutical companies don't work for sick people but for their shareholders. It is not in there interest that people be healthy. We have embarked here in what I would call symptom care, not health care. Who are the ones that spread propaganda against alternative medicine? You get an isolated and extreme situation and turn into a universal fact. Not good th

  • You're fucking kidding me. You don't think the pharmaceutical company which cures AIDS or cancer won't make boat loads of money? Or are you a conspiracy nut who thinks they are responsible for inflicting disease on the world's population?

  • Ask-egg, you're committing two fallacies in your responses: 1) the ad hominem fallacy, in which a claim or argument is rejected on the basis of some irrelevant fact about the person presenting the claim. Suggesting that I'm a conspiracy nuts leaves the argument intact. 2) Generalizing the issue is not disproving it, my friend, You're simply engaging in a circular reasoning. Have you done any study about alternative medicine? Nope, because you have dismissed beforehand. This is NOT science.

  • I see you are trying to annoy him by mis-reading his youtube handle, but might I suggest implementing Power Word: Real Name by disrespectfully calling him by his first name Andrew?

    Just a suggestion, Happy Trolling!

  • You're very perceptive. It bothers me his "I know all" kind of attitude. A history of science shows us that it has challenge systems and structures of thought. Name calling or labeling people is the lamest way to argue, let alone dishonor science. Science must always remain open. My quarrel with the current health industry is that it has become an industry and there is evidence that they have become drug pushers. I'm an investor and know that there is big money in health care. Peace

  • I'm all for science, however, there are almost 1/2 million deaths per year due to prescription medicine and another number of people who die due to malpractice. Based on evidence, we cannot trust modern medicine blindly. I think there are some legitimate herb medicine out there that has outdone modern medicine. It's not fair to demonize alternative medicine or force people into one mold and charge them with murder. I'm an atheist, but religion should be a personal matter.

  • So because we KNOW the risks associated with prescription medicine we should throw our lives into the hands of treatments with either no data, or that have already been disproved? How ridiculous.

It is pretty safe to say that almost all alternative medicines are such because they have FAILED scientific scrutiny to verify their efficacy and efficiency.

These idiotic parents will most likely kill their child due to their silly superstitions, and I have no problem saying so.

  • Or as Dara O'Briain put it, "Oh, herbal medicine has been around for thousands of years. Indeed it has. And then we tested it all and the stuff that worked became 'medicine'. And the rest of it is just a nice bowl of soup and potpourri."

    watch?v=VIaV8swc-fo

  • We can certainly agree on that :)

  • The ignorance of the father in the video in the comments is gag-inducing.

  • Kurt, a lot of people will say "If a person wants to get better the have a better chance." It is true that there is no magical way to wish your illness away. However, people who "want" to get better do get better more than those who give up. This is because the people who want to get better will do the things that help like taking care of yourself and following all the doctors orders. Of course, people are idiots so they don't realize that is the reason and they end up thinking it was magic.

  • down with positive thinking. it sucks.

there are studies that show that cursing even makes you feel less pain temporarily. on the other hand, everything known about cancer suggests that there cannot be a connection between positive thinking and the outcome of the illness. so there really is NO reason for this positive thinking hype, people should be able to think what they want. instead, people believe that you cannot get better without thinking positively if you have cancer.

  • Wow, you learn something every day. I always thought cancer was cell cycle problems that make the cell reproduce continuously because of DNA mutations. I wasn't aware of toxins in the body coming out through the skin could fix the DNA problem. Wow, just wow.

  • I wonder whether the parents would participate in the mud therapy to cure themselves of swine flu.

  • Holy shit. The red clay "pulls out the toxins????" REALLY?

wow. I'd like to slap her parents and ask them if the even understand wtf cancer really is, but clearly they do not.

  • If there was a loving god of high moral standards, retarded child abusers wouldn't be allowed to have children. The parents should be forced to eat a ton of mud while reflecting on it's magic healing powers and proper childcare

  • In 1000% agreement with you askegg.

  • Not only just killing her. But death by slow torture. Damn, this gets under my skin so bad sometimes.

  • This crap just pisses me off!

  • Just disgusting. Great video as usual.

  • they might as well have beaten her to death. Fuck them!

I hope the find this clip and watch it, i hope they read this comment and get to hear, from me, that what they have done is murder and that their hands will never be clean.

all our sympathies go out to the grieving parents....fuck that!

  • Ok- I"m staying subscribed... this is fantastic

  • You were leaving?

  • This Channel At first felt sort of shot-gun shell generic with only a few original videos.... but your presentation has improved exponentially.... you're.... becoming your own "artist". Not only have you released a number of simplistically brilliant videos as of late, you've linked me to a video which is now my favorite. .... typically I leave channels that sit and mull over the meaning of the word "atheist" ... but I detect Epic Win in you. You're something different, 5 stars and all that.

  • Any way you look at it, FAITH HAS ALWAYS BEEN A KILLER!

  • Glad to see you made a video about this issue :)

    -GG

  • Her parents need brain surgery. A jolt to their cells to wake up their brains.

    Fuck them!

  • I'd kill them if I ever saw them.

  • nuts !!!!! just nuts!!!!! aaaargh!! >=o(

  • Don't you love how Christians move the goal posts all over the place? Ex: Praise God if their little girl gets better or Praise God if he takes her as she'll be in a better place!

MAKES ME SICK! The parents need the mud on their head to suck poisonous religion from their brains so they can think again!

  • I saw this report when it first aired. It made me sick then, and no less the second time around.

This is one of those rare cases in which, you hope the science is wrong. You hope that the doctors are wrong, you hope that the red clay and tea works, you hope that somehow through some miracle the cancer just dies and she returns to being a happy and bright young girl...

Then you realise that you know better...

    Goodness save you Tamar

  • O.o Yes, isn't God Good? o.O

  • For f****s sake, not only will this poor girl not get the treatment she needs, she probably wont get any palliative care to makes her last days less agonizing. How can people be so cruel?

  • The kid should be taken off her parents. I don't actually care if anyone thinks this is intrusive. When she does get treatment, and does grow up and get educated she will be happy she was taken out of their household.

  • This is so inverse.

There are people from poor countries who are desperate to come to a more advanced country where the real magic of advanced medicine can give them a chance.

  • disgusting.

  • so ridiculous u know some1 couldn't have made it up :(

    that video was disturbing :(

  • 5 stars again.

  • I watched this at work, and had to leave the office and take a break. At first it made me angry as hell, now im just sad.

Please keep us updated on this. If she dies (or if she is dead already) i hope they are thrown in jail for life!

  • This is sickening.

I don't understand how the red mud and tea is more Godly than the real treatment. Both are treatments what the fuck!

Bah, this sucks. This sucks for that little girl.

  • Three things I think.

1st, the mud promises no side-effects,

2nd, the 'oldness' of the remedy seems authoritative to a bible-brain.

3rd, This one I hope is not true, but possibly the parents are being obnoxiously thick, thinking they found the answer that modern science cannot. It might help if these folks are creationists, science deniers, although they might as well be new age wackos.

  • It's so sad. They wouldn't even consider that maybe the doctors and technology are a gift from their god.

  • sadly ive stopped giving a shit after hearing about so many of these cases.

on the bright side she wont have to put up with those idiots we call her parents for much longer

  • the video is even worse than you say

    it's it's........ takes deep breath

  • You know, you can treat cancer. But you can't treat stupid. We've had a few cases like this in the Sates and they anger me to no end.

  • This is so fucked up. There's MANY cases like this every year, and I'm sure a good number of them could have recovered with proper treatment. Sorry ass "parents"...

Also, I've said it before but damn you look a lot like H.P. Lovecraft.

  • Please keep us informed/updated - I've got a sick feeling inside this poor girl has died. Please have the courage to insist these parents are prosecuted. It's very sad to see that people ignore professional doctors who have years of professional training/experience. It's an insult to medecine!

  • Retards, they'll bury their dead child in that red clay and they still wont think they did anything wrong.

  • They never seem to take a leap of faith with their own lives, do they?

  • Just like those cowards who organise suicide bombers.

  • ...I vomited...

  • This is sick....

    sigh

  • How very sad, another child doomed to a horrible death because her parents are religious idiots.

  • My girl is a doc and has plenty of stories about these faithheads refusing treatment essential for prolonging life. Then, when family and close 'friends' piss off home for the night, treatment is requested on condition of discretion.

    Pathetic.

  • Comment removed

  • =[ does she get her treatment?

  • I'd thought I'd heard the last of this sort of thing, after already dealing with the Jehovah's Witnesses' anti-blood transfusion nonsense. It's just even more upsetting to know there are other wackos out there putting their imaginary tribal god to the test with someone's life on the line!

  • horrible ignorance

I hope they realize what they've done.

  • "I hope they realize what they've done"

I would not bet on it. That father has bricks instead of brains. The mother is a little more open -- she wanted to see the video, and she sat forward as she watched it. You could see him shutting down.

He will rationalize away his actions as God's will and he will praise God for allowing him to sacrifice his child's 40-50% chance of life.

The mother obviously thinks they'll return to Oz. If they do, I hope that they jail him for life.

  • "I would not bet on it."

    Nor would I. :(

  • // Nor would I //

Especially for occasions like these: rationalization was invented to cope with cognitive dissonance.

The tragedy is that families have suffered bereavement for millennia. Almost all modern parents would consider their child's medicine-given chance for life to be more important than nausea and hair. And more important than belief in a myth.

That father is a weak bully. He can't cope with negative emotion. Too bloody bad! It's not his life, or his painful death.

  • Have you heard of our American case along the same lines? Daniel Hauser is the name of the boy. Hodgkin's Lymphoma and they gave him 95% survival and the parents bolted with him. The parents finally came back to select an oncologist as the court had ordered them, but, OF COURSE, they will pursue a parallel treatment of vitamins and prayer which, of course, will be lauded when he, in fact, recovers.

  • I couldn't watch the entire video in the info box, too awful.

I hope the parents are charged with a crime when and if they return to the country.

    So sad.

  • "She means everything to me" - Looks like his own personal belief in a skydaddy meant more. This is just so sad.

  • I get angry with people, who trust unconditionally old, even ancient rituals, traditions, books of remedies or books of wisdom. They are old! We have grown intellectually and developed more, since then. If there were valid truths, pieces of wisdom or working cures, we would have taken them already.
