Nowadays you have 8-10 men mixed defenses that do both zonal and men to men marking, and the players run on average 2.5x more then they did in the early 70s.

Maybe Maradona would have a chance, but the likes of Pele, Puskas and Di Stefano wouldn't be worth much today.

@rugbyman1 Pele could play any position from midfield forward he could mark well for a AMFbut no need to have the great pele play defense. I agree playing those postion is beasty but he was mainly a forward. He is definitely in my book greater than maradona i think he played in something like 30+ international games and scored like 29 goals. maradona playing in like 90+ and only scored 30+. Pele 92 caps 77 goals....jsut talking about international play. this guy is one of the greatest for sure.
