During your closing stand-up on camera you're in a Jeep Wrangler. It isn't "All Wheel drive" it's 4 wheel drive. There's a difference. A big difference.
If my Jeep isn't trail rated, can i buy a bolt-on kit of sort? Like skid plates, tow hooks? I have been looking online but havent found really anything from my make and year model. "which is 2005 Grand Cherokee"
ive been thinking about buying the new 2012 wrangler unlimited, but i heard that the trunk cannot be locked. it sounds kind of ridiculous which is why i bring it up. is it true?
There are a ton of great 4X4's out there. I like lots of em.
Jeep is the only 4X4 with a fully removable top and 6 speed manual which makes it one of my all time favs. You can wash the dang interior out with a hose. Drain holes built into the floor.
I look forward to the more powerful fuel efficient V6 in 2012
wow you know what really makes me made is that i have a 4x2 kj and i do most of the offroading that was just shown in that video i mean trail rated doesnt mean shit. Is that badge going to pull you out of a mudhole? No your skill and knowhow will. Also i get mad when i see these soccermoms driving around 4x4 jeeps and they are clean as a whistle when my 4x2 is covered in mud and dirt. just my .02.
@ManiacChaseman I agree... I go to a high school that has some, well, wealthier kids, and for some reason their parents all buy them Jeeps and FJs and get the freakin offroad packages, when these cars are never gonna see more than gravel and snow... I don't get it.
@ManiacChaseman I agree It is sometimes overkill for individuals who live in hot climates that dont offroad and get Jeep's with TR for the heck of it. It just goes to show a saleperson can sell anything to any undetermined buyer. But if you do any of the stuff their doing with 30% grade in -40C weather than you definitely need 4x4 and skid plates.
@ManiacChaseman Having a dirty vehicle doesn't make you look cool. It makes you look like a douche bag. Just sayin'. 2007 Wrangler Rubicon owner here.
@directorjustin I agree. If i go mudding, i wash my baby after, not parade her around lol. Anyways, alot of mud near cities have acid or something in the mud from dirt road runoff. It is added in dirt roads to minimize the dirt being flung into the air costing the city more in the longrun.
"So do you actually take the jeeps out and test em?" "haha...well..uh...well...uh what we do is look at uhhh well a list of things and go from there." So YOU DONT EVEN TAKE THEM OUT YOURSELF AND TEST THEM! No wonder the cherokee died...you guys are screwing jeep up....forever.
@JeepCherokeeI6 i got the same vibe from that tool. If Company wants to bullshit you and make up nonesence they should at least hire a good spokesman to lie about it so sounds like it's true.
@BORN2LOSE13 I'd give the edge to the FJ...but only because the Wrangler has an ancient engine and 4-speed auto gearbox...other wise they are bit supremely off-road capable and fun.
@romanmicagearguy i have to disagree there, probably because i'm a diehard jeep guy. i have worked on new-ish engines, and i hate them. the jeep is so easy to work on. as for the auto tranny, they make most jeeps with a manual option...
@romanmicagearguy I, like McLovingbc ,disagree with you. The Jeeps engines are old but bullet -proof and easy to work on. Most Jeeps have manual trannys.... so giving the advantage to a FJ because of that is silly. Jeeps also have solid front and rear axles, while FJ's do not......
@bcv001 The conditions in this video, both snow and mud, would be best suited to an AT tire. Snow tires have low tread block clearing capability for mud, and an AT tire has molded siping for snow traction with moderate tread block clearing. Given the environment in which this video was shot, the best option would be MTs that were siped by a third party tire dealer/installer, an aggressive AT tire, or a mild MT tire with molded sipes (Toyo Open Country MTs come to mind).

does anybody know what year jeep stoped making the plastic tops for the wrangler?
chickenpotpie84 1 year ago
This is you buy a Jeep...to be able to get to one place and another.
To get a Jeep just to play around in the mud, snow or climb around on on rocks is a waste of money.

In this kind of road condition plus temperature issue , what is the best tire ? SNOW TIRE OR off-road A/T ?

@bcv001 You know, I asked the Jeep guys the this very same question and never really got a great answer.
