  • Racist hillbilly trash.

  • @Ramaniac007 Hillbilly maybe. Racist not at all. I'm a gay liberal who voted for Barack Obama. I'm sure you've got something for that as well but just saying. LOL

  • The reason. Town closed. Early was because that the slave trade day

  • With the internet nowadays, there is no excuse for making the John Grisham mistake. Also, it would be real interesting if you could comment on historical events that took place in these areas.

  • I live in Nebraska at the moment. Grew up in Kansas. But almost every summer we would vacation down to gulf coast Florida. I LOVE the deep south. They have awesome food, great culture, cool scenery in most places, and the people there are usually pretty friendly. We typically pass through southern Alabama, Louisiana, etc whenever we go. Mobile is my favorite place to drive through by far!

  • @2:38- "think I'm in the ghetto".. LMAO- at least this cracker is smart enough to realize where the hell he don't belong!

  • greetings from columbia mississippi :) i used to want to get the hell away from here, now I realize home is where the heart is...

  • Nice video - thanks.

  • Haha the convenient store with the bars on the windows must have been in South Jackson lol seriously though why did you pick these town/cities to visit? Canton is a nice city, but you probably should have explored the other cities in Madison County such as Ridgeland and Madison. I live in Ridgeland, but Madison is a beautiful city. Top 10 places to live in 2007 or 2008 if i'm not mistaken. And I know you meant well, but this video furthers the stereotype of the South.

  • mississippi is horrible do yourself a favor and dont come here unless you like hunting and dipshits.

  • I was born in Newton. And it's pronounced, "PEEL-ah HATCH-ee".

  • I was born in Newton. And it's pronounced "PEEL-ah HATCH-ee".

  • MERIDIAN MISSISSIPPI!!!!! not a better place in the world

  • piggly wiggly= hoggly woggly

  • This is the most superficial, stereotypical attempt at documentation that I have ever seen. You simply chose some of the poorest regions of the state, then rambled on about the towns, even though you seem to have no real knowledge of them.

Also, John Grisham was born in Arkansas, raised in Southaven, MS, went to undergrad at Mississippi State, law school at Ole Miss, and currently has three homes--one in Viriginia, one in Oxford, Mississippi, one in Chapel Hill. He never lived in Canton.

  • @marispncr Well since you are so informed and better at this vlogging medium than me, why don't you put yourself in front of the camera, make a proper video, post it here on YouTube and set the record straight?

  • The Deep South looks fun! The music reminds me of GTA San Andreas lol!

  • looks really nice, good video. just one question, are the majority of people down there racist?

  • I have lived in Mississippi all my life, but I could travel to any state in the union and make an identical video (well, maybe not the 'pickled...everything'). I hope your video is meant to be taken light-heartedly. If so, welcome! If not...hmm...I guess you've heard what we do to troublemakers! Seriously, love the south for what we are. DIFFERENT! That's why we love/tolerate you! Love us or hate us we are all on the same team! GOD BLESS AMERICA!

  • I love Mississippi. The video was not made to be derogatory at all. At the time, I was traveling all over the South and I made YouTube videos as I traveled to share the culture and interesting things I found along the way. Thanks for watching. I hope to get back down that way soon and also down to New Orleans. -Jim

  • i live in mississippi

  • thanks for the video. i'm seriously considering moving to mississippi to teach because there is such a huge teacher shortage there. i've never been there, but your video gave me a glimpse of some of the small towns, thanks. and btw, I LOVE piggly wiggly, we have a few of them left here in nc.

  • NASCAR SUCKS ASSS

  • Wow, and WE'RE racist in Mississippi? "Looks like I'm in the hood." "I'm in the ghetto."

  • lol im from south mississippi. and I worked at piggly wiggly as a teen.

  • Piggly Wigglys were the first supermarkets ever in the history of the world. Look up business genius Clearence Saunders founder and innvator of the first supermarkets.

  • "I think I'm in the ghetto" , No shit? LOL

  • i love this video! this might sound weird but its like my dream to move to mississippi lol.

  • yup.5*****

  • nice vid, thanks..

  • Haha great video. I live in Mississippi myself and not very far from Jackson. Well, not really anyway (it takes about two hours to get to Jackson from my town).

  • You were on I-20 mostly. Those towns suck, except Meridian and some parts of the area around Jackson.

O the race thing. Get over it people, it isn't that bad. Its not the 60s

  • I live within walking distance from the gas station you went in. The owners there are the nicest people you will ever do business with in the whole city of jackson. know you by name and actually care about their customers. If you were in the hood buddy, someone would have snatched that little camera out of your hands so fast. and your car.

  • Now i am going to the Piggly Wiggly

  • Very interesting. Is the economy there so bad that places are only open a couple days a week?...

  • No it's just a tradition that most small towns have one afternoon a week when they close. Thanks for watching Joe! -Jim

  • yea this redneck dude didn't go anywhere interesting. He totally skipped Jackson

  • If you actually watch the video, you will see that this redneck did go to Jackson! LOL

  • You spoke out of your ass and got corrected. Another reason why kids should be seen and not heard.

  • You sir, are an idiot.

  • hmm!we are considered the most racist state in the u.s. but have the largest black population.the borders are open but they don't leave, hmm!we have more black elected officials than any state in the u.s.hmm! there are several black celebrities including morgan freeman from mississippi.where do they live now. new york,no.l.a.,no. wow! most of them came back home to mississippi.people from other places need to quit causing divisivness, because we get along fine here

  • Well I'm not sure about the get ALONG part, I'm from the area, yeah some folks get along but it's still very racist here in Mississippi. We shouldn't hide the truth.

  • wow thats probably the most miserable state out there

  • wrong, Georgia is the most miserable state out there, that is if you don't count the Apalachians

  • I lisen to alot of country music you see and I want to travel to the deep south one time, to see where it all started, artists like David allen coe and so on seems to dislike Black people and I`m scared that some kkk people or somthing is going to bet me up because Im a immegrant, even thougth Im much whiter then them, we dont see the sun that often here in the land of ice and snow.

-interesting movie and good music =)

  • Is it true that alot of people from the deep south are rasist? That they Even dislike white immigrants? I guess that`s one of the sterotypes meny got about the south. Also the weather came as a shock for me, I thougth it to be much hoter.

  • Alot of people are, but in some situations looks can be deceiving. The real problem down here is people know racism exists but they won't ADMIT there's a problem. They hide ALOT of things here.

  • I never knew the "Piggly Wiggly" was a real store. :)

  • Oh yea. They are all over the South!

  • I grew up in Houston, TX.. When I was younger, many moons ago when Houston was a smaller city, we had Piggly Wigglys too.

  • Haha yep, Piggly Wiggly is indeed a real store. I don't see too many anymore down here in Mississippi. While my town doesn't have one, but two towns (one being my original hometown) about thirty minutes away from where I live both have one.

  • wow, what a simple but reallly goood video! 5 stars!

  • Thanks for watching! -jim

  • Gosh that is sad to see Newton closed down like that. I haven't been over there in years. My grandparents are buried there. I also haven't seen a Piggly Wiggly since I left Mississippi thanks for a much needed view of home :)

  • Hey Tara. Thanks for watching. Did you grow up in Newton? -jim

  • I grew up in Alabama but my Grandfather's family was from Newton. He and my grandmother lived in Jackson but were buried in Newton.

  • I just love these videos Jim!! I couldn't help but laugh when the shop was shut. hey, here we even have some cafe's that close in the lunch hour ha ha!! Keep going!! Only thing missing from this vid was some singing!! Are you ready? Singing altogether now "Singing I I Mississippi I, Singing I I Mississippi I" Take care

  • Hey there Andy. I need to bring you along to do the singing!. I was afraid that three days of my singing might scare all the subscribers away. haha Take care friend. -jim

  • Piggly Wiggly,still makes me laugh.We don't have them here.I shop at a grocery store called "Aldi's".

  • Yea, me too Jamie. I think I've seen a few Aldi's around but the big ones in Atlanta are Kroger and Publix. Thanks for watching. -jim

  • They have piggly wiggly's in Illinois too, but not many exist anymore. We used to have one here but they chanced the name of it a few years ago.

  • Hey Susan. For some reason I thought the Pig was just a southern thing but I guess they are bigger than I thought. Thanks for watching. -jim

  • Dang Jim, seems you and I have tread some of the same soil. Didn't Morton Mississippi used to have a Paper Mill also. Man, get those two odors together, Paper Mill & Chicken Processing, you have some major stink. LOL. Pickled Pigs Feet, Pickled Eggs, and Beer Sausage are major southern food fair. You don't see that as much as you used to.

Take care bro, enjoy your vids.

    Steve

  • LOL Steve. Morton smells a little better these days. The last time I was there, it was like hell on earth. I don't know how those people live there but I guess they get use to it. Hey by the way, have you ever tried one of those pickled pigs feet? -jim

  • 'Fraid so Jim. Back in my drinkin' days. LOL

  • Jim, you DO see strange sites on a daily basis!I kept waiting to see the mortuary ;O).Drive safe.cindy

  • Thanks Cindy. I really never know what sort of craziness is around the next corner. Of course, I think it is probably everywhere but I tend to look for it to keep the travels interesting. -jim

  • Wow! The PIG! I thought it was a joke when I first moved south! Do you ever get to TN? I would love to see what Columbia and Spring Hill look like today!

  • Hi Sheryle. Yea, I travel through Tennessee occasionally. I'll be sure to take some videos for you the next time I pass through Columbia or Spring Hill. -jim

  • Thanks-I miss it!

  • That was fun to watch:):)

  • Hey there Ben. Thanks for watching buddy. -jim

  • We have the pig here in Wis"cow"son. I love the Pig.

I remember when I was younger my dad would eat pickled pigs feet.

Actually they are pretty good. LOL

  • Hey Lana. You're not setting me up to convince me to try one of those hoofs are ya? LOL Thanks for watching. -jim

  • You may like them.

    They are not bad really.

  • Well, maybe I'll try one! I'll have to get up my nerve but it would make a great video. Can't you just see me choking down a pigs foot! LOL -jim

  • lol

  • Only Southern rednecks like me would shop at Piggly Wiggly! LOL Thanks for watching hollytoo. -jim

  • Hey Jim, do you remember the commercials they used to play of Piggly Wiggly? "You'll go Hoggly Woggly at Piggly Wiggly" LOL, showing my age a little.

    Peace, Steve

  • Hey Steve. I'm afraid I don't remember that one. Thats a pretty goo jingle though. Thanks for watching buddy. -jim

  • I had no idea there were whole towns that shut down on a weekday! And answer me this--who was the first person who thought it would be a good idea to pickle pigs feet and call it food???? Just wondering...

  • Hey there Vicky. I don't know who first pickled pigs feet but you can be your last dollar that it was some Southern gold ole boy! Thanks for watching. -jim

  • Well, Jim, I had my atlas out following along as you went from town-to-town. I really am enjoying this. BE SAFE. Later.

  • Well tommy30507, I might have to call you for directions so keep that atlas handy. I appreciate you following my travels through dixie. Thanks for watching buddy. -jim

  • Love it country. Keep em comin! Hope you made it out of the Comfort Inn all in one piece! Hugs!

  • Hey Marty. I'm alive and well in Mississippi! LOL Should I bring a mess of those pickled pigs feet and smoked pigs tails home to you in Georgia? Thanks for watching darlin. -jim

  • All that pickled stuff always reminds me from science class and all those odd things our teacher had in jars. Hope you are finding some new customers. What sorts of things do you sell?

    Stacey

  • Oh My God Stacey you are right. They look just like those specimens floating in those jars. Do you dare me to buy a pickled pigs foot and eat it in a movie? LOL NOT I manufacture and sell a line of linen products to retail gift stores. Thanks for watching my crazy travels. -jim
