Simply put, this is one of the greatest arrangements and song writing I've ever heard. It's so lush. But the Kirshenbaum version of the song takes it to a different level and if anyone who never heard a DD song before listened to this version I think they would be hooked for eternity.
duran duran are a talented, important band. that's me appeasing the die hard fans. right now i can say it, ask it. on some duran songs, like this one and ones like moon on monday, the verse seems weak compared to the chorus. is it that the verse just fills the time till we get to the good bit, the chorus? or is it the chorus is so fine that it humbles the competent verse? i'll say it again, duran are great great band with amazing stand out tracks, but is it just me being greedy, wanting 2 much?
If you're a hardcore fan of this song, you might be interested to know that the original extended version of this song has found it's way into my hands. It has NEVER been issued on CD and I don't think it's even available over the internet. It is exactly the same length as the US Album version which I've posted here, but retains the sound of the original UK Rio version (i.e bass & drums). Send me a private message if you would like a copy, or I can post it on Youtube if there's enough demand...
@DuranFan09 is it the version from the music video? Not the version that appears on the Hammersmith 82 dvd but the one on the music video comp they released in the early 80s? I remember how that had more verses.
this is probably my favorite song by them, it's a toss of this one or Sound of Thunder
@DuranFan09 Been looking for this version on cd for ages. I think this version sounds so much more lush and full than the original. My favorite! Thanks for posting! I would like to hear the other extended UK version as well but this is the version that was on the US tape I bought (several times for wearing it out) back in 84 and 85.
To me this is the ONLY version of the song. I love you for this. Haven't heard it like this in years. Thank you so much. Can't find it on CD anywhere.
This version sounds more like an 80s song the cd version sounds like a 90s remix

Curious how much the original harvest label album or us re-release
is worth now? Any ideas out there would be appreciated :)

MTV use to show the video for this song -- that was when they use to actually show music videos. I miss the good old days.

Listen to the original on the Harvest label here in the U.S. and you can hear the difference in the intro. the original is shorter.
