That is a gorgeous box. Very nicely done. How did you get the two different colors? I'm thinking you stained the box carcase but not the drawers. Keep up the great work- it is wonderful that you are getting into woodworking at 14. Both of my kids loved shop class in Jr Hi too- boy and girl.
@DonnaMenke Thank you very much. To get the different colors I just stained it differently, the frame was one, 2 drawers a different color then the 2 drawers that where left I stained another color.
The video is not PAL compatible, but it will play on a PC DVD player using VLC- a common and free video viewing program.
I am the only source for this DVD since I have never used a distributor for it. I need to hurry up and change the postage charge for overseas sales. Last time, to Tazmania it cost me nearly $14 but I'm still charging $11 shipping. Ah, the joys of do-it-yourselfers.
I am just starting out making bandsaw boxes inspired with your book. I ma looking to buy this DVD but can not find any that sell here in the UK. If buying from the US will the Dvd play on my PC ?? or are they not suitable for Europe Region ??
The easier way is, as you said, is to sand all of the top of the bottom and the bottom of the body of the box before gluing. This is faster and easier, but sometimes the belt sander (operator) will leave a not-level surface and the two edges will not line up exactly right. I usually have to finish on a sanding board until they are perfect, and then glue.
Small boxes this is easier- bigger boxes- sand the interiors only.
Very observant! Actually there are two ways to do it- the hard way and the easy way. The hard way you sand the area inside the sides of the bottom of the box, leaving the band saw kerf alone. This way the kerfs line up, the fibers of the wood mesh, and the joint is practically invisible, especially after the finish is applied.
I'm amazed at the lack of a gap where the bottom was glued back on. Do you sand the bottom piece and the box pieces prior to gluing them to each other?
cool boxes check out one of the bandsaw boxes I made, It's pretty cool

My larger band saw in the video is a Jet 14", about 10 years old. It is a good one.

What size is that large band saw you are using?
